Is it on? Okay. This lesson is going to be on authority of the scripture. I'm going to start with the introduction. It says, in a world where truth is considered relative, it is vital for Christian men to affirm and stand upon the absolute authority of the Word of God. The Bible is not just a helpful book, it is the inspired, inerrant, and preserved Word of the living God. This lesson strengthens our conviction in the King James Bible and its place in every aspect of our lives. The lesson objective is to affirm the inspiration, preservation, and authority of the King James Bible, and to challenge men to live by it daily. We're gonna start in 2 Timothy, chapter three, verse number 16 and 17. Should be pretty well-known passage. says here, all scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. It's very important to study the scripture. That's very important to do. I think it's very clear that's what it's saying. We need to be instructed from it as we study through it. We're gonna, I'm gonna go to 2nd Peter chapter 1. Y'all can go with me if you'd like to. Gonna be in verse 20. Who verily was, excuse me, I'm on the wrong Peter. I'm on 1st Peter. Okay, knowing this first that no prophecy of the scriptures of any private interpretation for the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man, but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. The important thing to do with that is the Bible was not written just by men who were filled by the Holy Spirit, it was these were, excuse me, who were filled, not written just by men who were filled by the Holy Spirit, it was written by the Holy Spirit itself through these men of God. Without God, these words would be as empty as a box of donuts after Sunday school. The Bible is not man's opinion, it is God's breath in written form. John 1, verse 1, let me get there. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. Then we go to chapter 20. It says, Verse number 22, it says, And when he had said thus, he breathed on them and said unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost. The importance of these two verses is that A, it explains to us that Jesus was the Word of God incarnate, and the breath of God is the Holy Ghost. Those who wrote the Bible were filled with the Holy Ghost who gave them the Word of God, who is Jesus Christ. I just put here that that is a good symbol of the Trinity right there. And the Bible is 100% inspired by God. I think that shows very importantly right there. I'm just gonna go to point number two. The Bible is preserved by God. Psalms, let's see, where am I? Psalms chapter 12 verse number 6 says, The words of the Lord are pure words, a silver tride in a furnace of earth purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O Lord. Thou shalt preserve them from this generation forever. The Word of God is incorruptible. Though there are plenty of Catholic counterfeits nowadays, the true and perfect Word of God can never be corrupted by men. Matthew 4.4 says, But he answered and said, it is written, man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. If we wish to live a truly fulfilling life, we must live by the word of God. Says in chapter 24, Excuse me, I'm very frazzled right now. Verse number 35 says, heaven and earth shall pass away. Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my word shall not pass away. You could strive to become a CEO of a massive corporation, travel the entire world, or even own a massive plot of land and become self-sufficient. But if you are not living by the Word of God, then all you're doing is building yourself a huge pile of hay and stubble that will burn at the judgment seat of Christ. We ought to strive to live daily by the Word of God and guide our families, friends, co-workers, and fellow church members to seek after God in all things. I think it's very important to to follow after these things and think about what the Word of God teaches on different matters, including things to do with work, your everyday life, all these different things that might help you, including who you're talking to. Are you giving them the Word of God? Are you introducing God's Word to them and giving them the gospel? Go back here. So the thing about Word of God not passing away. Even when we live in eternity, the Word of God will still be around. Those of us when we die, the Word of God is still going to be around. The Word of God has a way of finding its way back to people. I believe that there's probably somebody in this world who has the Word of God pretty much word for word memorized in their mind. I think that if they were to ever take away the Bible that it would probably be somebody would be able to find a way to get it back to other people. Though I don't know if that day would ever come due to being so perfectly preserved. I'm just going to hit with the final thought here. The Bible is our final authority for doctrine, direction, and daily decisions. We must submit to its truth in every area of life. That's the most important thing we should be doing, following after the word of God. in every area of life, as I said before, in work, at the parking lot, at McDonald's. It doesn't really matter where you are. You should be following after what the Bible says to do in every aspect of what it says, including finances and how you run your home, how you run your life, how you make your decisions. It's very important. I don't have too much left here. I'm just going to go to some questions so we can kind of ease the tension a little bit. Why is it important to believe the Bible is the very word of God? This is something that's questions for y'all to answer, if anybody's got an answer. It is, why is it important to believe the Bible is the very Word of God? These are discussion questions. Yeah. Yeah, I think it's very important, because if you don't, exactly, if you don't believe the Word of God, the Bible is the very Word of God, then there's no use in us being here today. We'll go to question two. What does it mean to submit to the authority of Scripture? Help me out here. What does it mean to submit to the authority of Scripture? Means to live your life by this word right here. Read it and walk the walk, talk the talk. Yeah. Yeah, that's exactly. If you find something in here that you don't necessarily agree with, it's still right. Yeah, exactly. If you find something that bursts your bubble, then you're going to have to just look for a new bubble. I like that. Are there any ideas in your life where you are not living according to the word? Or are there any areas in your life where you're not living according to the word? That's gonna be a question I'm gonna leave to y'all. I'm not gonna ask y'all to answer that. And another one to leave to y'all would be, what is your current Bible reading habit and how can it grow? Another one that y'all can think over and pray over. And the weekly challenge is to memorize 2 Timothy 3, verses 16 and 17 this week. Choose an area of your life, finances, relationships, work, etc., and study what the Bible says about it. Write down specific verses and determine how you will apply them. And that is all I have. Alright, just a couple things real quick. Go back to 2 Timothy chapter 3. And just a reminder on these studies, the papers that I gave you is, you know, and even some of the questions are to help you with your study to be able to give the answers and to be able to teach the lesson and kind of, you know, give answers to those questions. And so it's not necessarily that you have to, I mean, you can give it to the class and let other people think about those questions also, but those are questions that need to be answered through the study. And so the whole idea of these discipleship classes is about being godly men. I did the first one on a godly man. Brother Carl did biblical manhood. And so as we're going through here, the focus is to be a man that God is pleased with. Every one of these lessons are gonna bring us to the final thought they ought to in each one on this specific lesson, how are we gonna be a man that's after God's own heart, a godly man? And so the authority of scripture that Brother Levi just covered, there's a couple things. Look at 2 Timothy chapter three, verse 13. And as you're studying these things, the verses that we have, you can look at the context, like read the verses around it and try to get some context, but verse 13 talks about evil men and seducers growing worse and worse, right? And so that's the context of this chapter. He's talking about in the very beginning of it is in the last days, perilous times shall come. All right. And we're there. Perilous times are here. All these things that mentions up in these verses, there's men that are resisting the truth. There's all kind of folly in the church. Verse 19 mentions folly. and evil men and seducers. So if we're going to be a man that this chapter ends with, that the man of God may be perfect. And that's our subject, a godly man. Well, where do we get it from? Scripture. So we have to be a man, and a young man, that is in the scripture every day. And so biblical authority, when it comes to manhood, I mean, you see y'all mention it, Brother Carl mentioned it, is we have to base everything we do in our life off of what the Bible says. And so in order for us to do that, we have to believe it's the perfect Word of God. And so if we say that there's anything in the Bible that there's any mistakes or errors, then all of a sudden that makes us the final authority, and we can take and dismiss whatever we want from the Bible. But in order for us to believe and say that we have a perfect Bible, and I believe that we do, we have a perfect God that kept a perfect book. He just read the verse. We're about to go back over to it. But in order for us to say that and determine, you know, if our bubbles get busted, we have to say, this is what it says whether I like it or not. This is the foundation of us being a godly man that God would be pleased with. All right, so all that's here in this context. All right, now look over at Psalms chapter 12, where he just went a second ago. Just a couple little things just out of these verses. Look at chapter 12, verse one. And I encourage you guys when you're, and I know that there's some, this is the first time you've ever done anything like this. And I know it's a lot of pressure and it's good for you. You have to be able to feed your family. You have to be able to feed yourself spiritually, but you got to be able to feed your family spiritually speaking. And so this is good for you guys to study and do this. All right. But look at the context. There's so much in there that you can get from it. What does chapter 12 verse one say? Help Lord for the what? The godly man sees. I mean, we're talking about a godly man, right? OK, look, was the last verse say? I mean, we're talking about wicked men. How do you combat that? It's right in the middle of the passage. The words of the Lord are pure words. As silver trod in the furnace of earth, purified seven times, thou shalt keep them, O Lord. Thou shalt preserve them from this generation forever. So we're talking about the godly man sees it. There's wicked, vile men everywhere. And just like back over in 2 Timothy, it's combated with a perfect book. And so if we're gonna be men that will please God, we gotta be men of the book. Some of the greatest men, spiritually speaking, influence that I've known in my life have been men that spent time in the Bible. They believed it, they lived it, they exercised, they practiced the word of God. And so that is why biblical authority is important. Brother Carl taught last week on biblical manhood and talked about the order of the home. And we have, as a husband, we've got all these people that are under us that the Lord's given us to lead and to love and to take care of our family. But if we're gonna do that properly, we have to be in submission to this book. We have to submit ourselves to the word of God. And so that's why it's important for you to believe that it is God's perfect word. And listen, if you don't, you know who's behind that? Satan is he's always behind the doubting of the Word of God ever since the very beginning And so if someone questions, well, you know, there's not a perfect book. I'm telling you there is if God cannot keep a Book perfect. How's he gonna keep me saved and keep me perfect in him? Right I fight against him. I mean I drove on 65 today and And so I thought some things I probably shouldn't have, right? This book's not against him, but he keeps me saying, why? I mean, it's his salvation, not mine. And so I believe he can keep a perfect book. He mentioned if they did away with Bibles, they've done it before. But guess what we're sitting here holding? I mean, they burnt them. I can show you in the Bible where they took the word of God and cut it up and where they threw it in a fire. And guess what we're doing? We're reading it. It's settled in heaven forever. So if they were to take all of our Bibles and destroy them, it would be nothing for God to come down and say, Levi, get a pen out. and through the Holy Spirit, like He did before, say, just write all this out, because it's preserved forever. And so, I believe with all my heart, God moved on men to write the Bible, as Brother Levi said, and He moved on the men as they translated it, even into English. I believe this is God's perfect Word. And so, when it comes to being a godly man, this is how we combat the evil men, and we hide God's word in our heart that we might not what? Sin against God. It all goes back to the books.
