Go ahead and turn to Psalms 42. Psalms 42. We are certainly thankful to see this good number. Glad to have several visiting with us. We're thankful you've come this way. It's already been said, I do apologize for running late or at least keeping you waiting, but there's some things worth waiting for, I think. Whenever you have people that are being saved, We had the professional faith and another one that wanted to be saved, and it's just been a good day already. We are looking forward to a good revival here, and I know that God has one for us. If we want to accept it, want to be obedient to Him, I believe He can pour us out a blessing that we can't even contain. Psalms 42. Again in verse 1, as the heart paneth after the water brooks, so paneth my soul after thee, O God. My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God? My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is thy God? When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me, For I had gone with a multitude, I went with them to the house of God with the voice of joy and praise with a multitude that kept holy day. Why art thou cast down, O my soul, and why art thou disquieted in me? Hope thou in God, for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance. O my God, my soul is cast down within me. Therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites from the hill of Mizor. Deep calleth in the deep at the noise of thy water-spouts. All thy waves and thy billows are gone over me. Yet the Lord will command His lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night His song shall be with me and my prayer unto the God of my life. I will say unto God, my rock, why hast thou forgotten me? Why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy? As with a sword in my bones, mine enemies reproach me, while they say daily unto me, Where is thy God? Why art thou cast down, O my soul? And why art thou disquieted within me? Hope thou in God, for I shall yet praise Him who is the health of my countenance and my God." Now, as we look at this psalm, I know that you are familiar with it. We find the writer here is describing how he longs for God. Oh, he wants to be close to God. He said his soul is panting after God like a heart would pant after the water brooks. He said, I'm longing for Him. But then he admits, he says, look, my soul is cast down. It's disquieted within me. And I'm down and out and my enemies are saying, where's thy God? Even to a point where he seems to be asking that question himself. You know, God, why is it you've forgotten me? Where are you at? Why are you not here to help me with this? But then he turns around and he answers himself. I love that. He's having a conversation, he's asking God things, but then he turns and tells himself, he said, hope thou in God. You remember the day that you went with the people, the holy day? You remember whenever you had joy and praise? You remember how God has blessed you? Keep on remembering that. You put your hope in God. So basically, he's upset, he's down and out, he's disquieted, and he says, let me take a time out a minute. Okay, listen to this, self. God's been good to you. You know God's taken care of you all these years. You remember the time God blessed and you rejoiced. You remember those days you went to the service of God and it's been sweet. Just remember those things and remember who your God is. I want to remind you of that this morning. I want to remind us of who our God is. Because it's very easy to forget. He does confess, though, he says, my tears, if you look back at verse 3, my tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, where is thy God? They say unto me, where's my God? Who is they? You ever heard somebody say, well, they say this. They are doing that. Who's they? They'll get you in trouble, won't they? They will discourage you. They will depress you. So who is they? The writer don't tell us who they are. So possibly it's a spiritual enemy. The old devil's got him down. The old devil's got him doubting. Possibly it's a physical enemy. We know David had plenty of those. Or maybe it's his own friends. Might be his family. You know there's times whenever family can hurt family. I guess, Brother Freddy, that nobody can hurt you quite like your family can hurt you. Because we care so deeply for family, don't we? We care about them. We care about their opinions. We care about what they think. We care for them. We love them. Over the years, we've gained one another's respect. We've gained one another's trust. And then when family hurts you, or when it's a friend that's close to you that hurts, boy, that can cut deep. Brother Matt, it can cut deep. David knew about that. He at least in one place said, my own familiar friend, The one that ate meat at my table, He's lifted up His heel against me." And so when He says, they, there's plenty that He could be speaking of, but we're just going to refer to they here this morning. They are discouraging the child of God, whoever they are. They're asking, where is your God? Why is it things are so tough for you? Why are you going through the things you're going through? Where's your God at now? And it seems again that the writer is beginning to wonder that himself. God, why have you forgotten me? Where are you at? I need your help and I don't see it. Where are you at? So I'm thankful that we have this little pause here as he backs up and he says, Hope thou in God. Remember God. Remember the God you serve. Remember who He is. I believe that's an attitude that most of us are familiar with. There's times whenever we get to wondering, you know, where's God at? Why is He not showing up? Why hasn't He answered my prayers? Why does He allow these things to happen? You know, maybe you're going through, right now, maybe you're going through such a tough time. Where's your God at? Maybe you're sick and you know that He can heal you. Where's He at? Maybe you're financially pinned down at the moment. You've asked God, help, will God stretch a dollar? Help me to be able to claw my way out. I'm pinned down financially. Where's your God at? Maybe you're thinking, well, why is things falling apart? Well, I'm down at work and it seems like things are falling apart at work. Why are you facing such unusual circumstances? Where's God at? You know, Israel had that same attitude at one time. They would take away captive and the Bible says that they took and they said that we cannot sing our song in a strange land. So they took and they hung their harps in the willows. We can't sing anymore. We don't have anything to rejoice about. We don't have anything to worship about. We don't have anything to be happy about. We don't have anything to have joy about. And what was their enemy saying? They were mocking them. Their enemies were mocking them. They said, well, sing us that song of Zion. Sing it to us. And they said, how can we sing? I believe he could have said it like this, where's your God at? In their heart, they're wondering the same thing. Where is He at? Why are we being taken away captive? Why are we going through what we're going through? See, I ask you that question, where is your God at? Because we need to make sure that we focus on the right things. You get to focusing on they, We're living at a time where you turn the news on, it's scary. You turn the news on and they say things are falling apart. You get around other people and most of the time the conversation's gonna turn negative and they say, oh, it's a world we're living in now, it's horrible. I'm gonna tell you something about this world we're living in, it's still a blessing. And God is still God, and He's still in control. And things are not near as bad as everybody's trying to paint it. In fact, God is still God, and there's more with us than there are with them. But where is your God? I tell you, I ask you some questions about different things. Maybe you're facing circumstances you're facing. And there's something we know about our God, and that is He spoke the world into existence. He created us by fashioning us out of dirt. He breathed into our nostrils. We became a living soul. God tells something to happen, it just happens. He tells something to stop, it just stops. He can tell the wind, peace, be still, and it just stops. That's the God we serve, and so we know that our God is able, and so when the world gets there, well, where is He at? Why is He allowing these things? Why are things so bad? We get to looking at it from the negative side, and we start thinking, well, where is He at? He could fix this if He wanted to. So why is He letting it go? So the answer is He can, He can fix things. We are children of the Most High King, and He is able, and we have no doubt of that. But where is He? They like that question. That question also plays its tune in the background of our minds. It's like that commercial, 877 Cash Now. It gets stuck in your head on a loop and you can't get rid of it. That question, where's God at? Why is He not here? Why is He not fixing things? It can get stuck on a loop, can't it? And we just dwell on that. I know God's able. Maybe I've messed up. Maybe He's not coming to my rescue. Maybe He's just going to let the thing fall apart on me. So the writer said, Why art thou cast down on my soul? Hope thou in God. Whenever we get down and out and the world starts getting the best of us, we need to remind ourselves who God is. He's the one that saved you. He's the one that has blessed you over the years. He's the one that's brought you to now and you're still living. You're still taking breaths because He's the one that gives them to you. Your heart's still beating because He allows it to be. That's who God is. And so he says, why art thou disquieted within me? You know what disquieted means? It means a feeling of anxiety or worry. So he's asking himself, why are you so worried? What's all this anxiety about? Why are you so stressed out over everything? Hope thou in God. Remember who God is. The world will tell you that, well, just you got anxiety, pop a pill. And look, I realize that there's medical needs for medicine to some degree. But it's also become our way of living that if something's wrong, just find a pill and keep going. He said, Why art thou disquieted in Me? Why is it that you are so worried? And listen, He said, For I shall yet praise Him who is the health of My countenance. God is the health of our countenance. Whenever we trust God, whenever we live by faith, I tell you what happens is, even our countenance is made better. Wisdom causes your face to shine. You see somebody gets in the Word of God, and you'll see their whole countenance change. Everything about them will. I believe just by studying the Word, you can become more healthy. So that's something to shoot for. And that ought to be encouraging. You want to be healthier? Study God's Word. It'll help alleviate some of the stress that we deal with. Hope thine God. He is the health of my countenance. He is my God. He is a good, good Father. And He is for me. Don't you hear that? He is for me. We get to thinking a lot of times where God, maybe He don't really care about me, but He is for me. When God is for us, who can be against us, brother Jake? This old world don't stand a chance. Not against God. God is good. Look over at Daniel chapter 3. Daniel 3, verse 15. We're just going to dive right into the middle of the story that you've grown up with all of your life. Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego. They were about to be cast into the furnace because they wouldn't bow down to a false god. That sound familiar? Boy, laws are being passed now in certain states that just appal us. Killing babies seconds after they're born. Won't be long, that's probably gonna be the norm, the way things are going now. Somebody asked you to be put to death in their 70s, cause they just getting old and in the way, be the norm for a long, just put them to sleep. All these crazy laws. You know, right now there's churches that are fighting against the government because they're telling them you can't preach certain things. Won't be long, I'll be here too. But God is still God. Alright, look at verse 15. Now if you be ready, that at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sack, basaltry, and dulcimer, all kinds of music, ye fall down and worship the image which I have made well. But if ye worship not, ye shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning, fiery furnace, and who is that God that shall deliver you out of My hand? Listen to what that man is saying. Do you think your God is able to save you from my hands? Who is that God? Surely you don't think He can do anything to stop my authority. I'm about to throw you into a fiery furnace if you don't do what I say. Where is your God at? Look again, verse 16, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered and said, We are not careful to answer thee in this matter. If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fire furnace, and He will deliver us out of thine hand, O King. But if not, be it known unto thee, O King, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up. That's one of my favorite passages in all of Scripture. That was a drop-the-mic moment is what that was. Can you imagine? Let's just see that scene just a minute. You have a multitude of people that are bowing down to a big old golden statue. Probably looks like those Muslims that bow down on their face and hands all stretched out and chanting all that kind of stuff. And you've got three oddballs that are standing there, still standing up. Can you imagine that scene? I picture probably the ones around them, closest to them, they're turning red for them. They're embarrassed and they're scared and my goodness, man, y'all are crazy. Just do, somebody's probably whispering, just do what he said. Just do it. Probably got some over here, they're sniggering, some are gasping. It might have been a, ooh, did you hear that? We are not even careful to answer you, King. You don't have to play that music again. We're still not going to bow. And I'll just let you know our God is able to deliver us from the fire and from your hand, O King. But if He don't, we're still not going to bow. This king, he made the furnace so hot. I mean, it's closer to the temperature of the sun, probably. It was so hot, it killed the soldiers that threw Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego bound, threw them into the door of the furnace. It killed them. Now look at verse 24. This is very interesting. Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonished and rose up in haste and spake and said unto his counselors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king, he answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt. And the form of the fourth is like the Son of God." Make sure that King James Version says, Son of God. Other versions say, son of the gods. So, who did they see? Who did this king see? Well, he saw the Son of God in there. That's important, especially for this message this morning, because who is that God that's able to deliver you? When that king looked in, he probably said, oh, I see. I see who your God is now. I see one likened to the Son of God. How does he know what the Son of God looked like? I believe God convicted people in the old days just like He does us. People in the old days had to trust Jesus just like we do. We just look back, they look forward to the coming Christ. Where's your God at? They could have said, I've got God right here. Where's He at? He's in here with us. This morning I want to encourage you with that. Sometimes He keeps me from the fire. Sometimes He's in the fire walking with me. That's where you find God. He's in the fire with you. Sometimes He calms the storm. Sometimes He calms me. Where's God at? He's out there outside of the boat waiting for me to step out there with Him. That's where God's at. That's where our God's at. We are faithfully Baptist, ain't we? About time we live that way. If we faithfully Baptist, we need to get to work. Because the just shall live by faith. That's how we're supposed to live. That's not just a once in a while thing. That's every day of our life. We are to walk by faith. Faith will lead you out there on the water, won't it? He's outside of our comfort zone. Unless you have made faith your comfort zone, then it's very comfortable. Whenever we realize, just yoke up with the Lord, learn of Him, and He makes everything easy, then it's not so uncomfortable. Where's your comfort zone at? Moses, where is your God? You mean you brought us out of Egypt down here where there are no graves in Egypt that you had to bring us out here in the wilderness to die? We're up against the Red Sea and we've got the Egyptians barreling down on us. What are we going to do? Where's God at? God said, tell them to stand still and see the salvation of God. There He is right there. Is He able? Of course He's able. Is He willing? That's where we get hung up, right there. Oh, I know who God is. God parted the Red Sea. God let Peter walk out on the water. I know that about God. God's able to do whatever He wants, but will He? Oh, is He willing? We get hung up right there. Let me leave you with this. There's a man come to Jesus one day, and he said, if you can do anything, save him. Talking about his son. If you can do anything, help him. Jesus turned that around on him and said, if you can but believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. Where's God at? He's out there where you're going to have to trust Him in order to see. If you're here and you're lost, Where's God at? Why haven't you been saved? If you're hidden, you're lost. Don't look up here in the pulpit to try to find God. Don't look around at this church and think, well, I know about these members. I know the good and the bad and the ugly. That's not where you need to be looking. Don't look to the waters of baptism. Don't look to your good works. Don't look at yourself and think you're as good as everybody else in here. That's not where you need to be looking. Where's God at? You need to look to the cross. That's where your Lord hung, gave Hisself a sacrifice for your sins. That's where He's at. You need to see Him over there at the cross. You need to see Him the third day, risen. as your Savior. Look at the mercy He's shown you. You're here today. He's been long-suffering to you. He's been merciful. You have this present time to be saved. Look at His perfect Word He's provided for us. Where is He? I believe this morning He passed this way. I believe He's here. I believe He'd come with me. I didn't come to bring you Brad's message. I've come to bring you God's message. I believe He's here. I believe this, if you're lost, I believe that if you would surrender and trust Jesus, God would show you exactly where He's at. He would save you. You'd be a child of God. Where's he at? He left in 99 coming looking for one lost sheep. He's knocking on your heart's door waiting for you to answer. That's where he's at. By faith, here this morning, please trust Him as your Savior. And if you are saved, the longer we live out our days, The more they are going to say, we are at a disadvantage. The more they are going to say, this word that we have is outdated. The more they are going to say we are wasting our time being a Christian people. But I am going to tell you something about they. They are wrong. They are wrong. And just like the little servant of Elisha said, Alas, Master, what will we do? They have got us surrounded. And the old prophet prayed. The Lord opened his eyes and he could see. And when he looked, there were chariots of fire all around him. And he said, there's more with us than there are with them. That's where we are this morning. Things may look bad on the outside, but God's got everything under control. The closer we get to Him, the more we will see. He is our life. The Scriptures say He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. You know, that don't just apply to salvation. It does, but it certainly has to do with our salvation, but He is our life every day. The closer we walk to Him, the more we understand life more abundantly. This morning, I want to remind you who your God is. He's the God that has everything under control and nothing is slipped out of His hands, whereas for some,
Where is your God?
A child of God should never hang up his harp
