In a world of conflicting values, where questions are more common than answers, God's Word provides everything we need to live a God-centered, truth-driven life. Join us now for The Word for Life, brought to you by Brookside Baptist Church and hosted by Pastor Greg Huffman, as he shares the truth for the day. Well, good morning. Welcome back to the Word for Life Radio Ministry. I'm so thankful that you've taken the time to listen this morning, and I trust that you will be benefited from the Word of God. In the studio this morning is Pastor John Fallahee. Welcome, glad to have you. Hey, it's thrilling to be here today. Thank you, Pastor Greg. And he is in charge of adult education, and we're thrilled to have you here on board. Thank you, Pastor Greg. Also in the studio is Jerry Fry. Jerry, we've been on before just talking about numbers of issues related to creationism. We are going to be talking the next couple of times about something special, the origin of not the normal topic that you talk about, but it's going to go beyond the origin of the earth. Tell us about that. We're going to talk about the origin of the earth, the origin of life, and the origin of information—all things that are related to the high things set up against the knowledge of God. All right. So, sounds to me like we're going to be looking at 2 Corinthians 10. Is that correct? That's right. 2 Corinthians 10, verses 4 and 5. So, folks, if you are able to open your Bible, maybe grab a cup of coffee, and just take a look at these verses, because it is so revealing concerning what is going on in the world today. The attacks of Satan, and those that hate God, and those that want to just distract from anything that God is or does. And it, as the Bible says, the high things that set themselves up against the knowledge of God. Because it's the knowledge of God that changes people's lives. So Jerry, share with us if you will. Well, in Isaiah 45, verse 18, God makes a declaration. He says, For thus says the Lord, Who created the heavens? Who is God? Who formed the earth and made it? Who has established it? Who did not create it in vain? who formed it to be inhabited. I am the Lord, and there is no other." So, in this verse, we're told, in the context of the fact that God is the Lord and there is no other, that he created the earth to be inhabited. Well, our current secular science teaches that the earth formed out of a maelstrom that was part of the formation of our solar system about four and a half billion years ago." Well, clearly, these two statements don't reconcile very well. And so, when we think in terms of the Lord saying He made the earth to be inhabited, there are a lot of issues that are spoken of there. So, for instance, can we think of any other place in the universe where man can live? And so you can't. We can't live in any of the other bodies of the solar system. We can't live anywhere else in the universe that we know of. Well, that alone makes the earth kind of unique. In Isaiah 45, 18, the Lord said He created this place to be inhabited. In fact, He said in verse 12, I've made the earth and created man upon it. So just very clear Earth, man, all together. That's right. And the Earth is not only the only place that's habitable. If you think about the International Space Station, it's incredible, the engineering and the effort that it takes man to create an environment that will sustain our lives in hostile environments. And so the Lord did the same thing. The Earth is an incredible place that's unique in our experience to date. in all the universe. The Earth is not only habitable, the Earth has this fairly unique property that it's observable. The universe is observable. And that's because our solar system is above the galactic plane. And so Psalm 19 says, the heavens declare the glory of God. There's no place where their language is not seen or understood. The idea here is that God promises that we should be able to see out onto the universe, and we're actually in a unique place to do that. In addition, our solar system is designed in a way that Earth is in a unique spot in our solar system. It's called the habitable zone. And it's the place where water can exist in all three states in the natural temperature ranges of the planet. We haven't found any other place like that. And it's critical that that's the case. We also have some other unique issues here. Our sun is 400 times farther away than the moon. The moon is 1,400th the size of the sun. That means this is the only place we can see a total eclipse of the sun. It's from that that we understand so much of, for instance, Einsteinian physics comes from that issue. So what I'd like to do as an example of what is it, just one example of, you know, what does it mean that this place has inhabited this earth that we have? I want to talk about trees for a minute. So trees were created on day three. They were part of the creation that filled the land. And if you think about it, how does water get to the top of a tree? A large tree in one of our large forests takes 1,000 gallons of water a day. It's got to move to the top. A day. A day. So where's the pump? Where's the pump? How does the water get to the top? Total opposite of gravity, isn't it? That's right. We have this thing called gravity that's going to resist that greatly. And so it turns out that in God's providence, he created four forces that actually counteract the effect of gravity. The first is osmosis, and this happens down in the roots. And some of you know that if there's more salt in one area than another, water will move across permeable membranes, et cetera. And so the idea is that the tree can literally take in water from the earth through the root system. Then it transfers that through something called a xylem, but it's made up of capillaries. And these capillaries are a very particular size inside, and so water flows up these capillaries. Well, it only goes because these capillaries are precisely sized to the nature of the water molecule. And then the water molecule is unique in that it has a certain charge. It's a charged molecule. So there's hydrostatic or electrostatic charge in the water molecule. That allows for a certain attraction, and the water molecule will literally climb up the sides of capillary tubes that are properly sized. And so you've got the tube itself, the design of the tube. You've got osmosis. and we've got the charge, the electrical charge on the water molecule itself, that's causing it to move up. But those in and of themselves would not be enough to get water to the top of a tree. There's another issue called transpiration. And so there are pores on the bottom of leaves. They're very elaborate mechanisms that open and close these pores and allow for the water to essentially expire. So carbon dioxide gets taken in by the tree, oxygen gets released in this whole process. It's part of the photosynthesis process. And so at the end of the day, these four processes, the osmosis in the roots, the capillaries and the charged nature of the water molecule, and the transpiration, the photosynthesis process where oxygen is released into our atmosphere so we can breathe it, carbon dioxide is taken back in, that's what causes the plant to grow. Think about how perfectly matched we are to these plants. These four forces are slightly greater than the force of gravity. Slightly. Slightly. Which is all that's necessary. That's right. So it takes all four of them in order to make this work. That means, not that we've ever found a plant on another planet or anything, but that means that this is the only place that that would work. You know, Jerry, that reminds me of Isaiah 55.10, the bigger picture of the hydrological system that's going on. And listen to what Isaiah wrote, "'For as the rain comes down and the snow from heaven, and do not return there, but water the earth and make it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater.'" It's an amazing connection. Here we have in the Word of God a picture of this hydrological cycle. Yeah, that's exactly right. So the provision of God is really quite amazing in this hydrological cycle, the provision of trees. But you know, when I hear all of these amazing facts, it just blows my mind that that being true and provable has to be set aside by quote-unquote scientists who just can't stand the idea of God creating. And so they have to come up with something evolution, whatever they want to come up with that will make it look like it was all an accident, it was all by chance, happenstance as it were. When all four of these things have to happen exactly at the same time, exactly right, just a little bit stronger than the force of gravity, there is a God in heaven that in every detail of creation, from the origin of the earth on, is proving himself to be God. And folks, you're listening to just a little bit of an explanation of what God did on the third day, creating the trees. If God can do all of that to care for us, to give us oxygen, to give us that which we need to operate on this earth, Do you think God doesn't care about every little thing that you're facing? We have a God who loves us beyond any imagination. And whatever you and I are facing today, my friends, God says, I'm there. And thank God He is Jehovah Jireh. He is our provision. He is Jehovah Shalom. He's our peace. He's Jehovah Nissi. His banner over us is His love. And as we just go through the names of God, we recognize God's love for us is unchanging. Now that's what the devil wants us to forget when things fall apart in our lives. The devil wants us to forget that God's love for us never changes regardless of what's falling apart. God's in control. God's in charge. Because with just the illustration of the tree that Jerry has just shared with us, we begin to understand if God's in control of all of those minute details in every tree, He's in charge of me. And thank God I can trust Him. And somebody said in our devotions several days ago, as my wife and I were reading, John, the feeding of the 5,000 was the lesson. The storm the next night was the exam. And friends, whenever you and I have a lesson from God, like we've just heard, there's always an exam. Am I going to trust God? with what I've just learned about God. And so friends, as we come to the end of this broadcast, begin to understand that you have the God of heaven, not just in your corner, but in your life. And so praise God that whatever you and I are facing today, It is the Word for life. Because it's from the Word that we have life that sustains us. Until the next time, may the Lord bless you in a fantastic way. We hope you enjoyed today's broadcast. Origin of the Earth, Life and Information
ស៊េរី Origins
Gerald Frye and Pastor John Fallahee join Pastor Greg for a discussion of origins. Using fascinating examples from the fossil record, natural processes, and living creatures, Mr. Frye explains some of the complexities at work in the natural world. Significant to the discussion is the origin of information, which is neither matter, energy, or mass, but without which nothing in the natural world would work.
