proclaim the gospel to the Jew first and also to the Greek. Shalom and welcome to the Everlasting Nation, a radio ministry of International Board of Jewish Missions. I'm your host, Aaron Broughton. It's my delight to be with you today. And today we have a very special guest and probably you've heard her name mentioned a few times, especially when we record the Hebrew Nuggets, and that is the name of Jackie Powell. And we have her in with us in studio. So welcome, Jackie. Thank you for having me today. Well, Jackie, you have been instrumental in your own ministry, Light for Israel, which we mentioned, and you've been writing the Hebrew Nuggets now for several years, and I know some of our listeners have gotten to appreciate those as we have shared those with others. But tell us, first of all, what are the Hebrew Nuggets? Okay, the Hebrew Nuggets, the reason I got the name is because I was thinking of a gold nugget that people would dig out of the earth and it would be a very special treasure. And so the Hebrew Nugget is a nugget of truth that we would dig out of the Hebrew Scriptures that would be a very special treasure to the reader. And we talk about the Hebrew scriptures, and I think most Christians probably don't think in their Bibles in terms of that, but really the Bible is really, for the most part, Hebraic in mindset, wouldn't you say? Yes, especially the Tanakh, or as we call the Old Testament, was written mainly in Hebrew with a little bit of Aramaic, so it is very Hebraic. And even the New Testament has some Hebrew thinking behind it, although it was written in the Greek language. So in talking about the Hebrew nuggets, one thing that you do is you usually try to center on maybe one particular word, kind of like a word study, if you will. And you've shared several with that, and I think one thing I've noticed, you do a pattern of going through different Torah readings and all that. What exactly, though, are Torah readings? Okay, the Torah readings are the Jewish people's original plan for reading through the Bible. So what they did was they divided the Torah, which is the first five books, Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, They divided that into 52 sections or portions as they call them and then they read one every week and each one is approximately three, maybe sometimes four chapters and during the course of the year they've read through the whole Torah and in the in the more orthodox synagogues, sometimes they may read the whole thing out loud, but in other Jewish communities, they may only read a portion of it, or they may not read any of it, they just may talk about it or give a synopsis of it. Okay. So the Word of God is still, at least in some ways, central to the Jewish people. Yes, it is central to them and to their thinking, and especially the Torah. And the thing is, if a Jewish person or a Jewish friend that you may have is reading the Bible, they're probably reading the Torah portions because that's what they will be familiar with. Okay. So here's a question as we have just another minute or so here. Why should Christians be concerned even about maybe the Hebrew of the Bible? Well, the Hebrew of the Bible gives us great insight into the original language and also very, very often the culture that the Bible was written in. And when we are able to understand that culture, That language better than it opens up the scriptures more to us because we tend to think of when we read the Bible we tend to throw upon it our 21st century Mindset instead of going back to when it was really written and taken the original mindset Well, you know, I think a lot of believers, maybe that's something they're not used to, and so I think maybe exposing them to something like the Hebrew Nuggets that you've done now for a few years, maybe that could be a good first start for them to dig into that. Yes, and that's always my prayer when I write them. So, what would be a good way for people to connect with you or to start reading the Hebrew Nuggets? Well, if they want to receive them, they only come out online. They're not printed in any form yet, although my desire is to make a book out of them eventually. But right now, they're just online. So you could go to the Light for Israel website, lightforisrael.org, and there's a way there that you can sign up for the Hebrew Nuggets. Okay, lightforisrael.org. Of course, you can always hear him here off and on with the Everlasting Nation. So again, we have Jackie Powell joining us today, talking about the Hebrew Nuggets. Thank you for joining us, Jackie. Thank you, Aaron, for having me. You've been listening to the Everlasting Nation, a ministry of International Board of Jewish Missions.
