Today we're going to begin a new study for our 10-minute devotions. Again, I want to give you a reminder that these devotions are intended just as kind of a study guide. I want to encourage you to spend time with God in His Word, in prayer, seeking God's will for your life. Just want to try to be an encouragement to you with this word. Very simple thoughts, and yet something that I feel like would do us good if we would listen to. Today we're going to start a series entitled, Dig Your Roots. There's some things we need to know concerning God's will for mankind. You know, people wonder, what is God's will for me? What is God's will? Certainly God has He has a calling for each one of us. God has unique gifts that He gives to people. He has unique direction. You know, some men He calls to fill the pulpit. Some men He wants on the mission field. You know, some are teachers. There's many other things that God would call us to do. And so God has unique and individual callings for each one of us. It may be God's will to put you over here and God's will to put me over there. And we shouldn't, you know, look at somebody else and think, well, since he's doing this, maybe that'll be good for me. Or since this individual has this gift, you know, maybe that would be good for me to do. God has something unique for you in his work. We can't all be the eye. We can't all be the ear or the nose. If we were all the nose, where would be the seeing? If we were all the eye, where would be the smelling? According to scriptures, you know, we cannot all be of the same part of the body. But it does please God to put each one of us in the body as he sees fit. And so I want to encourage you to seek out God's will. But today to dig your roots. Some things we need to know concerning God's will for each one of us. And this is not just individually, but our roots are to be grounded in Jesus Christ. He is the foundation of faith. A person cannot ever truly be grounded in this life until they know Jesus is their Savior. And that is done through repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. To turn, simply turn to Christ and trust Jesus for salvation. And that's how we're founded in Christ. He is the foundation. And so make sure that you're rooted in Jesus. Now, first, again, you must be saved, otherwise your roots will never have any stability whatsoever, but in a world full of mushrooms, He can make you a tree with deep roots. Jesus is the Word, so He expects you to get your nutrients for growing out of His Word. God expects you to become stable in a very unstable world. God is not the author of confusion. We need to know this about him. God does not want us to be confused. A lot of people say, God is just so confusing. His word is so confusing. No, it is not. His word is spiritually discerned. So to be saved and to study, to show yourself approved, a workman unto God, and he will help you to rightly divide scripture. If you lack wisdom, ask of God. He gives to all men liberally and upbraideth not." So God is not the author of confusion. So if He's not, then reckon where the confusion comes from in this world. It's His enemy. It's our enemy, the old devil, Satan. He wants to keep us confused. He wants, if you are saved, he wants to keep you just as shallow as possible. That way you're really not much of a threat to his agenda. So God, though he is not the author of confusion, God expects you to always abound in his works. There's times whenever your roots will be shaken. We need to know this about life, about God, that God will allow your roots to be shaken at times. Why would He do this? Well, it's at the time whenever we're being shaken that we must dig our roots a little deeper. You'll find that most people grow under hard conditions. And whenever things are going great, we just kind of settle in and we just go through the motions a lot of times. That's sad, but true. But whenever we're in trouble, whenever we're being shaken at our very core, that's when we put those roots down deeper. So let's get our passage for today. And this is simply just going to be our introduction for the thought of digging your roots. Psalms chapter one. We'll begin with verse one. Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners. nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that bringeth forth his fruit in his season. His leaf also shall not wither, and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. The ungodly are not so, but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. Therefore, the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly shall perish. So can I encourage us to simply marinate in this passage today? Consider your life. Perhaps you're full of fears, confusion, instability. Perhaps your life has been ill-advised by some ungodly counsel. Lord knows we're getting plenty of that today from all the different medias that we have, from the news we have, from even the friends. Maybe a lot of times that we have, we're getting some very ill advised, ill counsel, and we want to make sure that our counsel comes from the right source. So perhaps that's your life, that you're receiving that ill advised by this ungodly counsel. Maybe your delight has been in self-pleasure only to have it fall apart like sand slipping through your fingers. I think a lot of people, Christians today, that they are not seeking the will of God. We are to seek God's kingdom first and his righteousness so that the things we need will be added unto us. Again, bringing that stability there. But so many Christians are seeking to please self. and they're seeking to gain in this world. And they're watching that go through their fingers just like sand that would slide through your fingers. So now consider the promise that has been made here to the man that makes his delight in the Lord. Now, this prosperity, let's don't get confused. This is not prosperity gospel. This prosperity is a spiritual prosperity and a blessed life in the Lord. It is stability that is found in Christ and not by world standards. It is clarity and truth and not in the lies of the world and of Satan, but it's good. This prosperity is good. It is good to be rooted in this life, to be stable in this life, to be blessed in this life. What a promise. What a great peace that one can have to know that I'm not confused, I'm not deceived by the world, but rather I have put down my roots like that tree that is planted by the rivers of water. When that happens, we bear fruit in our season. Our leaves do not wither. Whatsoever we do shall prosper because what we are doing is in the name of Jesus. It's not in the name of Brad O'Neill. It's not in the name of self. It's in the name of Jesus that we do things as we put down those roots. And so therefore everything we do prospers because God has given us everything we need to be overcomers in this life for the will of God. So what a promise, what a great peace. And so I wanna encourage you to dig those roots deep in Jesus Christ. Dig those roots deep in his word. You know, we think about this song, Standing on the Promises. Listen to the words, standing on the promises of Christ my King. Through eternal ages, let his praises ring. Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing, standing on the promises of God. Not only just standing upon the promises, but to dig our roots down. Verse three again, and he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that bringeth forth his fruit in his season. His leaf also shall not wither, and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
