Hi, I'm Darrell Bailey. Thank you for tuning in to us for our Wednesday in the Word at Bethel Crossroads Baptist Church. Thank you for tuning us in as we get into our men's Bible study. We're located in 450 Iron Hill Road, Taylorsville, Georgia, 30178. Here July the 16th, 2025, the 20th of Tamaz, 5785 of the Hebrew calendar. As we get into the wonderful word of God tonight, this will be from 630 to 730, how to study the Bible. And as we get into it here tonight, how to study the Bible, the 10 most powerful ways to study the Bible. Here at Bethel Crossroads Baptist Church in our men's Bible study, July the 16th, 2025, the 20th of Tamaz, 5785 of the Hebrew calendar. Always look for the key verses that stand out to you. Now look in on Sermon Audio I'll have an outline notes sheet that will follow along with the Bible study and everything that was said this past week in our Wednesday night Bible study will be in there. Maybe some of the men that were there needed some notes and wanted to reiterate they can by tuning this in on Sermon Audio. And so My fivefold mission purpose is based on to share the word of God with the world. to help the believer to both minister and layman alike in his understanding, preaching, and teaching of God's word, and to do everything we possibly can to lead men, women, boys, and girls to give their hearts and lives to Jesus Christ and to secure them for eternal life, which he offers, Jesus Christ. And to do all that we can to minister to the needy of the world. I believe that every local church, the only hope for the world is in the local church. And if the local church doesn't provide for the needy around their area and their community, then there's something wrong. We need to be providing for the needy in our community that is around us. And fifthly, to give Jesus Christ his proper place, the place which the word gives him, which is what? To sit on the throne room of your life. And so I'm glad as we base that on each and every one of us from the powerful word of God, that as we look and realize that each and every one of us, as we see how that to share the word of God with the world, the gospel is not a museum piece. It's a living, breathing word sharper than any two-edged sword, and we don't proclaim it. Who will? Huh? So if we don't shout it from the housetops, the rocks will cry out. And so we've got to share the word of God with the world to help the believer understand the word. I tell you, the church is starving for truth and the word must be rightly divided, line upon line, precept upon precept. Don't just shout it, explain it. Don't just declare it, disciple it. And so we seek thirdly to lead souls to Christ and to secure them for eternal life. The cry of every evangelist, every ambassador must be this, one more soul. That's the business that we're in, soul-saving, blood-bought, heaven-bound business, hallelujah. And so, to minister to the needy, don't just preach with your mouth, preach with your hands. The gospel feeds, it clothes, it visits, it helps, it heals. And Jesus said, when you've done it to the least of these, you've done it unto me. And so, he said to give Jesus Christ his proper place, not just in the pew, Not just in the pulpit, but in every center of everything, in your marriage, on your job, crown him Lord of all. That's the purpose of the church. That's the goal of the gospel. And so if this mission doesn't set your soul on fire, you better check and see if you've got oil in your lamp. This isn't a job. It's a calling. This isn't a career, it's a commission. And the time is getting shorter and shorter. Let's preach it. Let's teach it. Let's live it. Let's furnish the work while we still can. And so we look and we see the wonderful word of God, because warned me if I preach not the gospel, praise God. Each and every one of us, as we have a calling, I'm glad that as we look at that, we realize he says to who, will is unto me if I preach not the gospel. Paul didn't say, will is unto the bishop, the apostle, the prophet, no, uh-uh. He made it very personal. He said, will is unto me. He made it personal. And friend, if the Lord Jesus Christ has called you, saved you, filled you with the Holy Ghost, then you are the who. And that cry burns in the bones of every God-called preacher, every spirit-filled believer. And if you can't sit still, if you can't stay quiet, you've got to proclaim the truth, not out of duty, but out of a divine compulsion. Hallelujah. Woe unto me if I preach not the gospel. Well, he said, there's the white. Go ye therefore teach all nations. What are we called to do? not to entertain, not to tickle the ears, not up to get to talk about the social events, not to build empires, but to preach the gospel, teach it, shout it, sing it, live it. And this five-fold mission, just for a missionary statement, it's a mandate from heaven. It's about the cross. It's about Jesus. It's about the blood. It's about the souls of men. It's about eternity, hallelujah. And so the who and the what, we see the where. He says all nations. There's no boundaries to the gospel. It's for every man, every woman, every color, every country, and from the backwoods of Mississippi to the back streets of Mumbaya, from the jungles of Africa to the skyscrapers of Manhattan, the gospel must go forth. And, friend, television can't limit it. The Internet can't contain it. And the Spirit of God will move wherever hearts are hungry. When? Lo, I am with you always, even unto the ends of the world. Well, when do we do this work? right now, not tomorrow, not when it's convenient, not after the budget comes in, not when the world calms down, but now, right now, while it's still day. For the night is coming, friend. Jesus said that he'd be with us until the end. So what are we waiting for? So the who, what, where, when, and why to give Jesus his rightful place is the throne of your life. This is the heart of it all. And I'm glad Brother Sammy Burgess back in the day, Oakland Heights had a motto, Jesus is the heart of the message. And I believe that it always will be and it always can be the heart of the message that Jesus Christ may be glorified. He's not just your helper. He's your king. He doesn't want a corner of your heart. He wants the throne. And until he has that place, you'll never know real peace. You'll never know real joy, and you'll never know real power. The gospel exalts Christ, and the Spirit points to Christ. The mission must enthrone Christ, and in your life, in your home, in your church, and in your nation. And so I thank God, as we look, we've got that commitment. to carry the mission and the purpose that I believe that it's all about. Now, when we see the Hebrew letter, hey, the number five, I said we got a five mission and purpose that goes with a great commission. I take that from the letter, hey, the number five literal meaning to behold, to look, to reveal, to breathe on the window because the letter hey the fifth letter of the 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet is connected to the revelation to the grace to God's breath or the divine presence it's the hey and so we see the hey is the central letter in the divine name of Yahweh the yod the hand the hey the breath that reveals the vah, the nail, and the hey of the breath that reveals. Yahweh, the hand, the nail, the breath, it's Calvary encoded in the name of God, hallelujah. And so I'm glad each and every one of us, when we begin to look and realize what God is doing, We need to be about the Father's business. The 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet, every letter speaks. It's not just language. It's revelation. The Hebrew alphabet is God's prophetic code. And I'm glad that all of the 22 letters speaks to us from Genesis all the way to Revelation. That's how I was taught. That's how I believe. And I know that's how it is. And so how to study the Bible. When we look and realize that in the Word of God, we take the one very first of the 10 most powerful ways to study the Bible, and it is about the acronym of the word SOAP. the soap method of studying the Bible. It's the power. It is the purpose of God's word, praise God. And so it is vital for every Christian to know how to study the Bible. You should be able to dig into God's word yourself and glean and gain all of the riches that the Bible contains. And so I'm glad. Jeremiah said, thy words were found and I did eat them. And thy word was unto me the joy and the rejoicing of my heart. And so each and every one of us It's very easy for people to come to church and to treat it like a theater, just sit and watch it happen. But then they either praise or they criticize somebody else or whatever. But the purpose of ministry in the pulpit is to stimulate the people in the pew. And to study and to teach is to stimulate you to study and to teach. But the sad part is there are so many Christians who don't really get into it. They don't study the Bible. They've been saved for years. They go to work every day and don't even pick up the Word of God and read it, except when they go to the house of God. You ought to be reading it at home every single day. Every single day. I'm not being eccentric. Every single day you ought to be picking that Word up. And so, the sad part, so many Christians who don't really get into it, they don't study the Bible, so they aren't able to teach it to somebody else. What a shame. No doubt there are difficulties, no doubt there's distractions, but that's not a good excuse. I think about Paul when he wrote to Timothy, he said, and the things that there are has heard from me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to fateful men. who shall be able to teach others also." In other words, Timothy, what I told you, I want you to tell somebody else. Paul had to encourage Timothy at this juncture in his life because Timothy was having many difficulties. He was beginning to falter. He was having anxiety. Paul had written him about taking some wine for his stomach's sake in 1 Timothy 5, verse 23. People hassled him about his youth. So Paul had said, let no man despise their youth. Flee useful lust. Timothy was fighting his youth. He was fighting his physical problem. Plus he was basically a timid person. So Paul said, for God has not given us a spirit of Timothy. And so, Timothy was being attacked by some high-powered religious apostates who had invaded the Ephesian church and were propagating genealogies, philosophies that he couldn't handle. And so, Timothy was beginning to falter. But Paul said to him, you can't stop now, Timothy. Too much is invested in you. hold to everything that I've committed to you and give it to somebody else. And that's the whole point. We can have victory over difficulties and we need to share God's instruction with others. You see, the word of God is a tremendous resource. Christians should not be handicapped in their own ability to study God's word for themselves. So we are going to be examined how to study the Bible. But first, we need to see why it's important to study. And so Heavenly Father, we come before you with hungry hearts. Feed us with your word. Teach us not just to read it, but to study it, to meditate on it, to obey it. Let this lesson transform our minds, ignite our spirits. We thank you that the Bible is not just ink on paper. It's your voice speaking to us. In Jesus' marvelous mighty name, we pray, amen. We've got to learn how to engage personally and spiritually with scripture to help other believers understand how God's word equips us for doctrine, correction, and righteous living through the soap method. And so there's a lot of ways that we can learn about this. And as we see the wonderful word of God in 2nd Timothy chapter 3 verses 16 and 17, all scripture is given by inspiration of God. It's prophet for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction and righteousness in verse 17, that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished with all good works. And so every one of us, as we see our lessons that here will be in our first lesson, that it'll be right here. And that is tonight starting up and we'll go all the way to December the 3rd to our very last of the 10 lessons that we'll be learning, praise God. And so, you know what? just as a carpenter must know how to use a hammer, a saw, and a square correctly. Every Christian must learn to use the Bible, not just to read it, but to study it, to apply it. And so, the Bible is not merely a book, it is a living word of God. To benefit fully from its power, wisdom, and truth, believers must learn how to study it correctly. And so, this dynamic 10-lesson series equips Christians with a practical spiritual led strategies for engaging with scripture personally, purposefully, and powerfully. And each lesson introduced a unique method of Bible study rooted in the King James Version, helping believers to grow in understanding, strengthen their walk with Christ, and become better equipped for every good work, as we read in 2 Timothy 3, verses 16 and 17, that we're basing this first method of Bible study, the soap method, on that scripture. And so, from foundational methods like the soap technique, to deeper tools such as word studies, character profiles, verse mapping, this series will emphasize not just learning about the Bible, but letting the Bible transform the learner. And so, just as the carpenter must know how to use a hammer, a saw, and a square correctly, every Christian must learn to use the Bible, not just to read it, but to study it and apply it. You ought to be using that Bible like a tool every day, just like you use your computer, just like you use your tools at work, electricians, heat and air people, seamstress, every type of work, business savvies, all people across this nation. Your Bible is that tool that should come out of the case and should come out of the pouch and should come out and be used every single day. as we go forward, praise God. And so, many believers read the Bible, but not all of them learn how to study it. And so, I thank God that as we look and realize how powerful it is to know the wonderful Word of God. Amen. Many of us, as we get into our scripture, We see, first of all, lesson one, the soap method and its foundation, because as we read the scripture a while ago, the Bible is God breathed divine revelation from the Holy Spirit, not just man's opinion. And so it's profitable and it's useful for doctrine. What to believe. for reproof, what not to believe, correction, what not to do, and instruction in righteousness, and what to do. So you've got what to believe, what not to believe, what not to do, and what to do. Here, Timothy gives us that, that the man of God may be perfect, he tells us, fairly furnished unto all good works. And so when we look at this and we start out with that soap method, that's the purpose of the scripture. Number one, the S stands for scripture. And so we are to write it out. And I'm glad that every one of us, we as we write this scripture out by hand, I'm glad that what word or phrase kind of stands out to you. Verse 17 highlights the Bible's ultimate goal for us because it says perfect. And it's talking about being mature. Furnished, it means equipped like a soldier ready for battle. But back up in verse 16, it tells us all scripture is God breathed. The Bible is not man's opinion. It's a divine revelation. It's breathed out by the Holy Spirit of God. It is profitable. It means it's not only true, it's useful. And so the doctrine that I said, what to believe. The reproof, what not to believe. The correction, what not to do. And the instruction in righteousness, what to do. See, as we see the word perfect and the word furnished, Perfect means mature. Furnished means equipped like a soldier ready for battle. And without the word, the believer is unequipped and vulnerable. And so, without God's word, we need this. We need to be equipped like the armor of God that is on us in our place. When we have praised God, we see the word of God is the sword. We see the helmet of salvation. We see the shield of faith, praise God. We see the breastplate of righteousness. I mean, the girdle of truth and the shoes that we are to stand on the truth, amen. And we don every bit of it all on with prayer, praise God. And so, thank God, we look And we see that we implement the SOAP observation, not only the S for scripture, but the O is for observation. We write out the passage with the scripture. We do the observation. What stands out to you, praise God? And so, asked what word or phrase stood out? What do we learn about God? What do we learn about ourselves? Well, When we do that observation of what stands out, praise God, we can always dig deeper because inspiration of God, that means God breathed. The doctrine, as I said a while ago, what is right. The reproof, what is wrong. The correction, how to get right. The instruction, how to stay right. And so I'm glad the application of this Hebrews 4.12 says God's Word is alive and sharp. Joshua 1.8 says meditation brings success. Psalms 19 verses 7 and 8 says the Word revives the soul and gives wisdom. And so why is it important to believe that the Bible is inspired, not just a good religious book? Well, when we look and realize that it's very important that every believer, especially the one called the minister, as we see how important the Word of God is, because the key observation that we look at is it's all scripture. It's not just favorite verses. It's all scripture. And I'm glad that we look and see that it's God's breath, not man's ideas, when we observe what stands out. Praise God. And it teaches truth. It corrects lies. It trains you to live holy when we observe what stands out. Praise God. And so, Why it's important to believe the Bible is inspired and not just some religious book, because it's the only way to trust God's word fully without picking and choosing. And so I'm glad every one of us, when we look and realize how important that is, we go on and we see the application of soap because scripture is the S, we write it out. And the O is observation, what stands out, praise God. But the application, how does it apply to your life? How does it apply? We look and we see that is my life shaped by all of God's word or just the parts that I agree with? And so how has God corrected or trained me lately through his word of God? And so We see that James chapter 1 verse 22 says, but be ye doers of the word and not hearers only. We've got to apply it. We've got to apply that the Bible study application to our life. And so, the Bible isn't optional, it's essential. And without it, we can't grow, we can't serve, or we can't stand strong in faith. And so, as the psalmist of Psalms 119 verse 9 through 11 says, how can a young man cleanse his way? How can he purifies through the word? He's being transformed by the renewing of your mind of Romans chapter 12 verses 1 and 2. And I'm glad Romans chapter 12 verses 1 and 2 says of a renewed mind. Philippians chapter 4 verses 6 and 7 talks about peace through prayer and thanksgiving and also peace in anxious times. And so I'm glad that I see every day that God begins to speak through his word. It's not optional. It's essential. And without it, we can't grow. We can't serve or stand strong in faith. What doctrine have you learned lately? When has the Bible corrected you like a loving father? And are you letting the word equip you for life? And so each and every one of us, as we go through life, we need to let God teach us through that SOAP method. Scripture, write it out. Observation, what stands out. Application, how does it apply to me? But then implementing that SOAP in prayer, of spelling the acronym of SOAP, S-O-A-P, scripture, observation, application, and prayer. Because through prayer, we are able to respond to God based on what we've learned. And so every one of us, we ought to write out a prayer or we ought to have a prayer. And when we read the scripture, That's when we need to pray it. And will you follow along with me? I wrote down a little prayer that will be similar to what we would pray. Father, thank you for the power and the purpose of your word. Thank you that every line is God-breathed and it's useful to shape our lives. Help us to love sound doctrine, receive correction, walk in righteousness, make us fully equipped, ready for every good work that you've called us to do. In Jesus's name, amen. That's how we ought to pray when we're studying the Bible. We respond to God based on what you've learned. When you get home, when you're sitting there in the pew and listening to the Sunday school teacher, when you're listening to the pastor, you ought to be praying, Lord, this prayer. Father, thank you for the power and the purpose of your word. Thank you that every line is God-breathed and useful to shape our life. Help us to love sound doctrine, receive correction, walk in righteousness, make us fully equipped, ready for every good work you've called us to do. In Jesus's name, amen. And so the challenge for you as we go our separate ways, the soap needs to pick three passages that I've given you. Psalms 119 verses 9 through 11, Romans chapter 12 verses 1 and 2, and Philippians chapter 4 verses 6 and 7. You know why? because I just gave you the answers a while ago. I just told you what it was. I said these three things and I told you what those three things were. Go back and listen very carefully again to what I just told you a while ago. And you'll hear these three scriptures that I just spoke about. I just talked about them. I just said them in scripture. But sometimes we do not pay attention. We don't listen to the preacher. Our mind goes somewhere else. We don't listen to the Sunday School teacher. Our mind goes somewhere else. I'm giving you not only a note to look at while you're watching this PowerPoint, and if you don't get it after that, there's a serious problem. You need to be observant. You need to listen and you need to apply. And so write that scripture out. What stands out through observation? How does it apply to me through application? And then through prayer, you respond to God. What part of soap was the hardest or the easiest for you? Huh? I wonder as I recap and got to reinforce you with what I've spoken to try to remind you before the devil takes it away from you after you get done here. Why should we believe the entire Bible is inspired? First of all, because it's the only way to trust God's word fully without picking and choosing. And what four uses does Paul list for scripture? Doctrine, reproof, correction, and instruction in righteousness. And what is God's purpose for giving us the Bible? So we can be mature and equipped for every good work. As I close out, Who can study the Bible? You'll find this again in my note sheet that I'll be putting in a PDF that you'll be able to follow along with this PowerPoint. the six requirements for understanding God's Word. Amen. And so I'm glad each and every one of us as we look at who can understand, who can study the Word of God. Amen. Each and every one of us can study that Word of God and how that we're able to do it. Because first of all, we've got to be able to take it and share it with someone else. And so as we do that, I hope and pray that you'll pay attention as I talk about the many of how or who can study the Bible, amen, and how that we're able to do that. And so please, will you listen to what I'm fixing to give you? First of all, the first thing that we see is those who are believers. You've got to be a believer in order to understand. the Word of God. Many people that are lost are blind because they have never ever taken the time to get into the Word of God. And you know what? Without the Holy Spirit indwelling you, it's impossible for you to really know how to understand the Bible. And so each and every one of us as we go through life today, we need to slow down and realize that it is through those that are believers that can truly understand the word of God. And so I'm glad that that's the best thing that I can tell you about these is that you need to be saved in order to understand the word of God. You'll never understand it on your own or your own strength, Amen. And so each and every one of us, as we look at this, Those are one of the most important things. Secondly, those who are diligent. You've got to be diligent about taking time to get into the Word of God. You've got to be able, those who have a great desire. If you don't have a desire, you're not going to take time out in your daily busy life to pick up the Word of God. Those who are holy, you know what? When you're a Christian and you're trying to live like the devil and out there mixed up with things in the world instead of living up to the potential that you've got as a child of God and you're crossing over the fence, you ain't lost your salvation, but you're dipping out in sin and living in all of this filthiness and wickedness, you're not going to understand the Bible. Oh, do you know that you're supposed to be setting the Bible? You're not like everybody else in the world. You're not supposed to be out there sleeping around with somebody and shacking up with somebody and doing things in the world. You're supposed to be holy. You're supposed to be different. You're supposed to be a peculiar person. You're not like everybody else. You're not going to know the Bible if you're living like the devil. And so those who are spirit-controlled as well, and so those that are prayerful, Praise God. Those are the requirements for understanding God's Word. And so, look at those things. And if you see that there's something in here that you're doing that you shouldn't, that's why you're not understanding God's Word, because you've let sin come into your life. And until you get that sin out of your life, listen, God's not going to open up your eyes of understanding. And see, why seriously study God's Word? Well, each and every one of us as we go through life today, I'm glad that as we look at it and realize that God is wanting to do something very powerful. And first of all, we need to be able to know God personally. I'm glad John chapter 5 verse 39, search the scriptures. For in them ye think ye have eternal life, and they are they which testify of me." We study the Bible not just to learn about God, but to know Him personally, His heart, His will, and His ways. So we've got to know God personally, praise God. That's why we study God's Word. Secondly, to grow spiritually, because in 1 Peter 2, 2, as newborn babes desire the sincere milk of the word, that you may grow thereby. Just like food nourishes the body, the word of God feeds our souls. It transforms our minds and matures our faith. And so you need to be in that word of God on a daily basis. Amen. Thirdly, to defend against error and temptation. The psalmist of 119 verse 11 says, Thy word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against thee. And when the enemy attacks, scripture is our sword. Ephesians chapter 6 verse 17. Jesus used scripture to resist Satan in the wilderness in Matthew chapter 4. And so to know God personally, to grow spiritually, to defend against error and temptation, but also, fourthly, to know God's will. Again, in Psalms 119 verse 105, thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. The Bible is God's guidance system and showing us how to live, where to walk and what choices to make. And fifthly, we see to teach others the truth. I'm glad he said what in 2 Timothy 2 verse 15, to study to show thyself approved unto God a workman, that neither does not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. Studying helps you and I rightly interpret the scriptures so that we can teach others without error and lead them in truth. And then six. to be equipped for every good work. Because what was our main scripture in? So 2 Corinthians chapter 3 verses 16 and 17. All scripture is given by inspiration of God that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished under all good works. Now I'm skipping around for that, but God's word equips us for life, for ministry, for parody, for marriage, for service, every good work. So to be equipped for every good work and then seven because it's the voice of God Matthew chapter 4 verse 4 man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeded out of the mouth of God The Bible is God's revealed voice Studying it is how we sit at his feet and listen to the shepherd when he's speaking us and so I'm glad John MacArthur is known for his unwavering commitment to teaching the Bible, studying the Bible, literally, grammatically, historically, and it focuses on the accurate interpretation and sound doctrine. And so as we look and realize that each and every one of us, we need to use reliable tools. We need to use cross references. We need to use concordances. We need to use word studies. We need to use commentaries. My favorite is a Matthew Henry commentary. And I'm glad Bible dictionaries, Greek and Hebrew resources that will help us. And so we asked ourselves again, why we study the Bible. And I'm glad because the divine origin of scripture, that all scripture is given by inspiration. And I'm glad that not only divine origin of scripture, but the practical use of that scripture. It's profitable for doctrine that I said earlier, what is right. It teaches divine truth, not opinions. We build our beliefs on scripture, not traditional feelings, praise God. And so I'm glad that for it's profitable for doctrine, what is right. For reproof, what is not right. It shows us where we're wrong like a mirror in James chapter 1 verses 23, 24, and 25. For correction, how to get it right. It gently sets us back on the right track when we begin to wonder. For instruction in righteousness, how to stay right. It trains us like a spiritual coach to live holy. And so I'm glad as we look at the transforming power of scripture that the man of God may be perfect And that means spiritually mature, fully equipped, fairly furnished under all good works, that we're not just informed, we're transformed and we're prepared to serve, praise God. It equips every believer, not just preachers. The word is for moms, it's for dads, it's for workers, it's for students, it's for pastors and alike. And that means the word of God has within it everything the believer needs, whatever the need might be. So what is God's goal for us through studying the scriptures? It again is to grow into mature, equipped believers ready for every good work. And so I'm glad as we get ready to close out the final challenge. Whether you're a new believer or a seasoned disciple, this series will challenge and inspire you to handle God's word with reverence, skill, and joy, and making Bible study not just a habit, but a life-transforming encounter, praise God. And so I hope and pray that as I close out that you'll be able to take, because the Bible isn't just a book to study, it's a sword to carry, a mirror to reflect, and a lamp to guide. And so as I close out, Remember to write it out, scripture, observation, what stands out, how does it apply, application, and prayer, respond to God. And as we close out, I hope and pray that you got something out of us because is the Bible just a book to you or is it your daily bread? Have you neglected the study of God's word? Come to the altar and recommit your life to becoming a serious student of the scripture. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you a hunger for the word and the wisdom to rightly divide it. And so briefly to remind you what you need to be praying, Lord, make me a man, make me a woman of the word, not just a reader, but a doer, a teacher, a light to others. As I get ready to close out, Father, thank you for the gift of your word.
