Well this morning I want to, this is not the sermon, I hasten to add, but I want to make a statement concerning the decision of the Supreme Court on Friday of this week. You will know that by a 6 to 3 majority, the Supreme Court of the United States made a decision to overturn Roe versus Wade. It was a landmark decision. And we believe it was a good first step, but that's all it was, a first step. Contrary to what our President said in his nasty speech after the event, abortion never was a constitutional right for anyone in the United States. That is a lie. It has been considered to be a constitutional right because in 1973 a decision was handed down that seemed to affirm that, but it never was a constitutional right. The decision handed down on June 24, 2022, Friday last, rightly returns the debate on the issue of abortion and any subsequent decisions that are made about it to the states and to their legislatures. So individual states will now have the power to determine if abortion is to be permitted in their jurisdictions or not. Those are the facts. Those are not the facts that you will hear from leftists and so-called progressives today. Those on the radical left are lying, frankly, when they assert that abortion has been banned in the United States. Would to God that it were so. But it is not so. Sadly, it is not the case. There are states in the Union that will outlaw the procedure, thank God, but those where radicals and leftists wield power will continue to allow abortion on demand, and as has been pointed out, it will probably increase in those jurisdictions because of people travelling there to have abortions. In Democrat strongholds such as New York, New Jersey, the New England states, California, Oregon, Washington and other left-leaning states, the tragedy of abortion will carry on as before. So I have to say that while Friday Pass was a good day in one respect, in another sense, nothing much has changed in our country. Sadly, in most of those what I describe as leftist states, babies are murdered in the womb up to the point of birth. They just let that sink in. Little ones up to just that moment or two before they take their first breath in the world can be killed and are killed in their mother's wombs. It's barbaric. It's beneath contempt. Did you know that the United States is one of only seven countries in the world that allows abortion in the third trimester of a woman's pregnancy. Two of the other seven are China and North Korea. We're in bad company. Abortion rights, abortion on demand in the United States is more radical than it is in France, and that's unbelievable to me, knowing how left of centre the French are. I don't hesitate to say this morning that we are being ruled over at present by an evil, godless administration. When I heard the President of the United States and other leading Democrat politicians refer to the Supreme Court decision as, quote, horrific, hateful, and taking America back 150 years, et cetera, frankly, it angered me, but it also saddened me. It made me feel very, very discouraged. Because the same leaders who bloviate about saving lives through gun control measures will angrily demand out of the same mouth that people vote to elect representatives who push vigorously for the butchery of little ones, little human beings, in their mother's wombs. Many of these abortion activists and those who elect them actually believe that birds' eggs, like eagles' eggs, and baby seals and whales are to be protected by federal law, but baby boys and girls should be torn asunder or injected with a fatal substance because they're unwanted. It's unbelievable, in a so-called civilized society. I also find it ironic that some of these politicians who couldn't tell us a week ago what a woman was are now crying from the rooftops about women's rights. You couldn't make it up. Did you ever think that in a supposedly civilised society we would see people of all ages marching and threatening violence on other people because their so-called right to kill infants in the womb was being curtailed. The answer to all of this, I have to say, is not politics. I'm thankful for decent, right-thinking politicians and Supreme Court justices. But the answer to the national tragedy of abortion is not more political action, welcome as it is, The only cure, ultimately, for abortion and all other sin is the impact of the gospel upon hearts and minds. People do what they do because they need to be born again. That's why you have abortion in the world. People need to be born again. They have wicked and sinful hearts. The Lord Jesus said that out of the heart there proceeds all manner of evil things, including murder. So while we welcome what happened on Friday, we still maintain that we need to see a move of God in our land. So may God help us to pray on for the making bare of God's arm in our country. Because only that will wipe away such abominations as abortion on demand. Amen.
