And I'm glad to be in the Lord's house today, amen? And aren't you glad for a Wednesday night service? I know y'all are glad for Wednesday night service. A recharge, a help to you, amen. And I'm thankful for that today. I'd like for you to take your Bibles tonight to the book of 1 Samuel chapter number 24. I do want to say I do appreciate y'all praying for my family and all the text. Those that have been praying for the service yesterday, I do appreciate that, as I was very nervous yesterday. There was a lot of lost folks there, and there was a lot of lost folks. Right now we don't know if anybody trusted Christ, but you never know. The Bible says His word will not return void. And it may be something was said yesterday that might affect their heart next week, and it might help them next week. And so just be praying for that, that God would just help there. 1 Samuel chapter 24. Once you find your place, if you're able, and we'll stand for the reading of the word of God, we'll read just several verses today. and we'll give you what the Lord's laid on my heart. The Bible says in verse number six, and he said unto his men, Lord forbid that I should do this thing unto my master, the Lord's anointed, to stretch forth mine hand against him, saying he is the anointed of the Lord. So David stayed his servants with these words and suffered them not to rise against Saul. But Saul rose up out of the cave and went his way. David also arose afterward, and went out of the cave, and cried after Saul, saying, My lord the king! And when Saul looked behind him, David stooped with his face to the ground, and bowed himself. And David said to Saul, Wherefore hearest thou men's words, saying, Behold, David seeketh thy hurt. Behold, this day thine eyes have seen how that the Lord had delivered thee into mine hand in the cave. And some made me kill thee, but mine eyes spared thee. And I said, I will not put forth mine hand against my Lord, for he is the Lord's anointed. Moreover, my father, See, yea, see the skirt of thy robe in my hand, for in thy eye cut off the skirt of thy robe. And kilt thee not, know thou, and see that there is neither evil nor transgression in mine hand. And I have not sinned against thee, yet thou huntest my soul to take it. The Lord judged between me and thee, and the Lord avenged me of thee. But mine hand shall not be upon thee, as saith the proverb of the ancients. Weakness proceedeth from the wicked, but mine hand shall not be upon thee. Of whom is the king of Israel come out? After whom dost thou pursue? After a dead dog? After a flea? The Lord therefore be judge, and judge between me and thee, and see, and plead my cause. Deliver me out of thine hand. Go with me to chapter number 26 before you sit down there. And notice with me in verse number nine, the Bible says, And David said to Abishai, Destroy him not, for you can stretch forth this hand against the Lord's anointed, and be guiltless. Notice there in verse number 23. The Bible says, the Lord rendered every man his righteousness and his faithfulness. For the Lord delivered thee into my hand today, but I will not stretch forth mine hand against the Lord's anointed. Notice verse 20. Now therefore, let not my blood fall to the earth before the face of the Lord. For the king of Israel has come out to seek a flea, as when one doth hunt a partridge in the mountain. I'd like to preach a message tonight entitled, you've got the case of the fleas. You've got the case of the fleas. I heard there was a flea market going, or the dog show went on on a Saturday down here in Myrtle Beach. Next day, the flea market was going to be opening up. Amen. Now, some of y'all will get that later. Amen. Let's pray. Father, I pray that you help us tonight. Lord, I pray, God, that you use me as a mouthpiece. I pray, God, that you work in hearts. In Jesus' name, amen. You can be seated. I don't know about y'all, but we got a couple of dogs at the house. Anybody got dogs? How many of y'all know you gotta wash them? You gotta make sure they're clean. They get out there in the grass and they'll pick up what? a little flea. And you know, a little flea will drive them nuts. It will cause them to scratch behind the ear, to scratch their back. It will cause uncomfortableness. It will cause a time of they're just bothered by it. And if you're not careful, you can actually get the case of the fleas, if you will. You can actually be around the dog so much that you start scratching, that you start thinking about it. I mean, all the fleas and everything. We got us a little dog at the house. We tried to bring her in the first day. Mama found the dog. I don't know. Something happened. They actually ended up having a whole other litter of these dogs for some reason. I don't know how that happens. They said they had an accident litter. I don't know how that happens. Anyhow, we got this little purebred miniature poodle. She come home, and she was sitting there in the house. And we got another little dog, and we thought, good grief, this dog's going to be about this big. And we got a dog about this big that's sitting in the house. So he's going to think that she's a chew toy. Well, so we brought her in the house and ended up the second day, I mean, our big dog did not like the little dog coming in the house. That was his territory. Well, the second day, it wasn't long before them two started getting to know each other a little bit better, if you will. And Sparky, our big dog, took Willow, our little dog, around the house. And so what would happen was, they would be walking right beside each other, they would walk to the first door, and then they would see another door, and he would sit down right at the door. And then all of a sudden, Willow would walk in the room and walk around the room and then come back out. And then he would escort her out of that room and show her where the bathroom is, and then show her where the kitchen is, and this is where we eat, and she knows exactly where to eat now. and then takes her into mama's bedroom and in the bathroom and all that in there and then all of a sudden my work room is on the other end of the house and so I've got that door closed. Well there was one day I opened that door and she's seen what was in there too. So she's got her whole life set for her. She knows where everything's at now. Well then all of a sudden it was time for Sparky to go outside. Well, we got two dogs in the backyard. Well, Sparky's done taught them I'm the boss of the house. And so they run into their little igloo and their little doghouse place in there. And she goes out and she has fun. Well, now she automatically, every time we walk even close to that door, guess what she's doing? She's over there scratching. She's ready to get outside. But you know, there's one thing we got to watch for is that she doesn't get the case of the fleas. Can I tell you something today? It is so easy. And listen, I've had the case of the fleas before spiritually. I've had the case of the fleas. I've had times where I have looked at different things. I've tried to find different obstacles. I've tried to find stuff that I didn't like. I've tried to find things that I nitpicked, if you will, when there's a lot more things that ought to be majored on. And we find out in this day and hour that we major on the minors and we minor on the majors. I'm just being honest with you, church. It comes to the point in time when you find little things instead of trying to get the gospel of Jesus Christ out. It's time to get back to the right things. It's time to get back to the way of life that we need to be living. We know from the story of Saul and David, Saul was the first human king over Israel. You notice I said human king because God was their king before that. God said, I'll give you the king that you want. I'll give you the one that you want. I'll give you that king, but I'm going to tell you something. It's going to be a heartache. There's going to be hard times. There's going to be troublesome times with this king, because I'm your king. They wanted Saul instead of God, and so God gave them Saul. He gave him their way. We know, and then God gave them David, according to chapter number 16. David had went and he was, as we know, he was out there in the field watching over his daddy's sheep. Remember that? Samuel comes over there and Samuel says, look, I've looked at all your boys here, Jesse. God's not approved of these. God's not said anything. He said, I've refused him, I've refused him, I've refused him. Got all the way down the line and said, you got any more youngins? I mean, is there anybody else? Well, yeah, there's a little run out. out there in the field, he said, well, we're not leaving this spot until you go get him, until you bring him back. And we know the story, David walks in and God says, that's the one, that's the man after mine own heart, that's the one I want you to anoint. And we know that David has been anointed a king in 1 Samuel chapter number 16. 1 Samuel chapter number 17, we know the story of David and Goliath. Now, David did not go to fight Goliath. Let me be clear on that. He didn't go to fight Goliath. He didn't walk out there knowing there was a champion out there. That champion had been out there for 40 days and 40 nights defying the armies of the living God. He was not out there to go fight David. You know what David was out there doing? He was out there obeying his father. Can I tell you something today? God's not going to use a lazy person. God's not going to use somebody that's sitting on their hind ends doing absolutely nothing. God's going to take somebody that's working in a Sunday school class And he's going to give them more. God's going to give somebody a bus worker that has a heart for the bus ministry. And he's going to give them a little bit more. God's going to take a lay person in the church that just loves to do things and loves to work and get out there. And he's going to give them something new. And he's going to give them something more. Hey, I thought about this in Matthew chapter number 25. We're getting somewhere. But in Matthew chapter number 25, you notice where the The one with the one talent the one with the two talents and the one with the five talents the one with the five talents He gave him another five talents. He gained another five talents the one with the two talents He gained another two talents and the one with the one talent guess what he went and hit it God couldn't use the one with the God could have used the one with the one talent had he went and done something else with the one talent Just as God uses the one with the five talents to gain five more, and just as God can use the one with the two talents to gain two more, God can still use that one talent if you'll just do more with what you've got. Think about this. We know the story. David fought Goliath. But you know what? Saul didn't like that. The Bible says in that chapter, Saul eyed David from that day forward. You know why Saul eyed David from that day forward? Saul wasn't doing nothing, David was. You hear me and you hear me well. When you got the fleas, you can guarantee, you can guarantee that it's all because you got in the wrong crowd or you're absolutely doing nothing. I'm just being honest. When you get that case of the fleas, it could be you're just standing still for them to jump right on you. Normally, I've known different churches traveling around all over the country. I know different churches, and I see people with cases of the fleas all the time. But you know the sad thing about the people that are with the cases of the fleas? They're absolutely doing nothing for God. Getting quiet in here. I'm just being truthful tonight. Let me ask you a question. Do you got the case of the fleas? Does it bother you when somebody else gets up and sings? Does it bother you when somebody else gets up and teaches a Sunday school class? Does it bother you when you get up there and you see somebody hop on a church bus and singing, Jesus loves me, this I know, with the bus kids? Does it bother you when they come into the service and they sit down with the workers that actually love them and actually care for them? Does it bother you when they're serving God but you're not? Maybe the problem is you're not serving God and maybe you could serve God a little bit more and get a nice good old cleaning in the Word and get them fleas off of you. Amen, I'm just being honest. Think about this, Saul should have never, or should have been the one to fight David, fight Goliath, because at the time, David, even though he was king, he was anointed king, had not been established as king. You know, Saul hears the people say, Saul has slain his thousands and David his ten thousands. And that gets under his skin and tries to kill David. I want to share with you just a few thoughts about the fleas. Number one, when there are more important things that you dwell on, but you dwell on the useless things. When there are people dying and going to hell and you're more concerned about somebody didn't shake your hand. I'm just being truthful. Well, I didn't like the song that we sang. I wish we would have sang the song that I wanted. Well, I didn't get as many on my bus like they did. Who cares? If you're bringing in the ones that God wants you to bring in, think about it. If you're bringing in as many as you bring in on that Sunday, or as many people you invited, maybe the ones that you didn't invite show up, but maybe the ones that you never invited showed up. I don't know about y'all, but I've gotten down before. I've invited people to church. I've invited, invited, invited, invited, invited. And then all of a sudden, nobody that I've invited shows up. Ain't that a little disheartening? How many of y'all that gets under your skin sometimes? You're sitting there and you're like, hmm, man, I wish they would have come. But then all of a sudden, somebody brand new walks in that you've never seen before, you never invited them, and they sit on the church pew and all of a sudden you're like, well, we got a visitor today, I wonder who invited them. And you go up to them and say, well, who invited you? And they say, well, nobody, I just saw the sign, or I looked it up on, I looked it up on, I looked it up on the website. I've seen it on sermonaudio.com or I've seen all these things and they're like, well, who invited you? Normally it's because we want to see who's outdone us. Who's out doing us in this day and hour? I'm just being honest. Sometimes it's easy to look at that. But you know what? God may say, hey, just because you were faithful over here and just because you didn't get bitter over here because nobody showed up, I just went ahead and bring a whole load in of the ones that I didn't. You didn't invite, but I wanted them to come hear the message of the word of God. In the case of the fleas, you know what happens? They start bouncing off on other people. You get two or more dogs around, in the case of the fleas, guess what happens? Fleas start jumping on them other dogs. Ain't it amazing how we are? You get a little bit bitter, and it spills over, spills over, spills over. I've learned it's not just one person that's bitter in the church. One person with bitterness starts it. But then it just jumps, and it jumps, and it jumps, and it jumps, and it jumps. Think about it. I want to ask you tonight, do you have some fleas on you? Are you more focused on the useless things of this life? Well, my family didn't get to sing this past Sunday. Well, my family member didn't get to take up the offering. My family didn't get to do this. Hey, why don't you get rid of the fleas and let God do the work? Amen. I'm just being truthful. Doesn't take long for you to dwell on the useless things when important things are no longer important to you. Saul was more concerned about David getting the kingdom while he should have been more concerned about somebody taking his throne. Let that sink in for just a minute. While Saul was chasing after David, while Saul was looking for David and trying to find out where David was, you realize he left his whole kingdom sitting there. Somebody could have took over the kingdom while he was out chasing for useless things. Somebody might end up taking your Sunday school class today while you're chasing useless things. Somebody might be taking your spot because you're sitting over here with useless things in your life. Think about this. It doesn't take long for somebody to get on the useless side when the more important things are not important to them anymore. When you're willing to point out faults in other people, but you're not willing to look at yourself in the Word of God, you've got the case of the fleas. When your conversation at church is more about you than what God has done, you've got the case of the fleas. When you're always out and about in the grocery store talking about how you don't get to do certain things at church, and how you're not involved, and how you're not there even though the opportunities are there, even though the things are there that you could be doing, but yet you've got the case of the fleas, and you just want everybody to know that you ain't got nothing going on. God help us. God help us. How about you tonight? Do you got the case of the fleas? David after this, it's amazing to me. Saul thought that David was an enemy. Y'all with me? So when you got the case of the fleas, you're gonna think that your brother and sister in Christ is an enemy. Can I remind y'all, when Nehemiah got together, when he got the group together to be building that wall, y'all remember that? When he got the group together, Remember all that? He had a bunch of people helping him. Right? It was only three people that went up against him. But we know Nehemiah didn't have the case of the fleas. You know why? He kept working. He wouldn't let the enemy come by and try to plant a seed in his heart. You know why? Because he always had a soft ground. He always had a soft heart to allow the Lord to work, to allow the seed to grow, to allow it to grow up so that way it could be big and strong. Had he given in to the devil, you know what would happen? The wall wouldn't have been finished, the gates wouldn't have been made, nothing would have happened. Well, let's just get out and close because I guess I ain't doing nothing major for God. Hey, can I just tell you something? If you pass out one gospel track, you've done more than what most people have done in a week. Just being honest, the average church in today's day and hour, we've gotten so content, I hope you don't mind me saying this, we've gotten so content with our little self and our little group, our four or no more, and we think, yeah, Jesus Christ is coming back and we think it's so soon, so we're just going to stop. That ought to make us want to go more. That ought to make me want to go grab two or three more gospel tracks and pass them out. That makes me want to go sing a little bit louder, Amazing Grace, How Sweet the Sound. That makes me want to just sit there and maybe go out and visit more of us kids. That makes me want to go out there and pray a little bit more. That makes me want to go out there, and that makes me want to sit there and be more involved, knowing that Jesus Christ is coming back, and knowing that one day I'm going to have to meet Him with what I've done with my life. What I've done with my life and what you've done with your life, you think about it, the gold, silver, and precious stones are the things that we did for Him. The wood, hay, and the stubble are things that we did for ourselves. When you've got the case of the fleas, you're doing everything for yourself. Just know it. Just know it. Number one, when there are more important things, but you dwell on the useless things, you know you've got the case of the fleas. Number two, when you're judgmental instead of Christ-like. and letting Christ handle the situation. Notice with me in verse number 15. The Bible says the Lord therefore be judge and judge between me and thee and see and plead my cause and deliver me out of thine hand. Notice that Saul's not the one that said this. Saul's the one that's got the problem. Saul's the one that's got the heartache. Saul's the one that thinks that David is an enemy. But David is the one that says, the Lord judged between me and thee. The Lord knows my heart. The Lord knows your heart. And the God that created my heart and the God that created your heart knows everything about you. He knows the insides. He knows the outsides. He knows everything about you. He knows your intentions. He knows everything about you. I don't know you. I don't know your heart. I do know in Jeremiah 17 verse number 9, it states that the heart is desperately wicked, but I can't tell you what your heart is. I can't tell you what's inside your heart. I don't know if you've got a good heart or a bad heart. But I do know one thing, there's a God in heaven, and He's sitting on the throne, and He knows your heart in and out. He knows your heart on a Sunday morning. He knows your heart on a Sunday afternoon. He knows your heart on a Sunday night. He knows your heart on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. He knows your heart. Sometimes we act Christ-like in front of the brethren. Sometimes we shake hands in front of the brethren to look nice. Ain't it amazing? I dealt with this this past week. Preachers can't get along in this day and hour. Have you noticed that? Haven't y'all ever seen that before? Preachers just can't get along sometimes. During the whole battle with the, not a battle really, it's just people ain't getting along. Y'all know how it is, funerals and everything. And everybody wants everybody's different way. How many of y'all understand what I'm talking about? My sister-in-law called me Saturday night. I was scheduled to be in Broadway, North Carolina on Sunday morning and preach. And then I was driving back home to my home church. I was getting licensed as a preacher. I've already gotten a ticket for going 55 in a 45 minute time zone. No, I'm just kidding. Preacher called me today. He said this. He said, I heard you got licensed Sunday night. I said, yeah. He said, how have you not gotten a ticket or gotten arrested for preaching without a license the last 16 years? I said, I don't know. I said, but don't call the police yet, all right? No, I'm just kidding. We all got together. And it's amazing. All three of us got together. And you know what the problem was? We couldn't get along. I had an idea. I'm part of the family, so I had an idea. My sister-in-law was there. We were meeting, and we had kind of a mindset because we had met on Thursday and Friday and talked about the order of service and talked about all this stuff. We were sitting there. We were trying to get along. Well, you know what? When Tuesday come around at that funeral, you know what happened? It's good to see you, brother. I tell you what, if you want to open up the service in prayer, you can do that. That's your brother. You can do whatever you want to. I mean, the whole attitude changed. You know why? Because people were around. You know, the problem is, when you got the case of the fleas, you want everybody to think there's nothing wrong with you. You don't want nobody to know that you've got a problem with a brother or sister in Christ. You just want everything to look good. You just want everything to look great. But I promise you this, and you guarantee it today, you mark her down, God knows exactly your heart. You can hide it from the preacher, you can hide it from the Sunday school teacher, you can hide it from the musicians, you can hide it from the deacons, you can hide it from anybody and everybody, but I'm going to tell you something, one thing you cannot do, and you will not do, and that is hide it from God. And what's been done in secret, and you continue doing it in secret, and you don't ask God to forgive you, I promise you there'll be a day that God's going to openly rebuke you. Am I preaching truth tonight? Am I helping somebody tonight? Them fleas, they get under my skin sometimes. I'm just being honest. I'm human. They get under my skin. They bother me so much. But you know what? Sometimes I gotta get back into the Scripture and say, Lord, the Bible says now you're clean through the Word of God. Now, I'm not the smartest man in the world. I went to a Christian school. And when I started out in kindergarten, it was the first year that we opened up. So we didn't have this education that a lot of people have now. We just got the teachers that we could get during that time. No, I'm just kidding. I mean, they taught us four letters like dog and cat. Oh, wait, that's three letters. Never mind. But you know what? I don't know much. But I do believe that if you continue doing something in secret willfully, God will one day open it up and say, hey look, this is what he's been doing. Am I right? It didn't take long for somebody to find out Saul was up against him. Just like Absalom. Absalom tried to take over the throne, but you know what, God didn't allow Absalom to do that. God brought it openly. You do things in secret, God will openly reward you or openly rebuke you. Think about this. Number one, when there are more important things to do, but you dwell on the useless things. Number two, when you are judgmental instead of Christ-like in letting Christ handle the situation. You know, it's amazing David let God handle the situation. He let it all cool down. I remember having one issue, I had a problem with something, and Mama said, just let it cool down, Justin, just let it cool down. Don't say nothing, just let it go. And you know what? Guess what happened? God worked in that situation. Amen, I'm just telling you. Number three, and lastly, when you act like the victim instead of while others are living victorious. Well, I'm king. Why is David killing all these people when I'm king? Well, Saul, if you would have stand up and been a man for yourself, and stood up and fought Goliath instead of hiding behind a rock, maybe they would have been singing, Saul is slain, it's ten thousands, and David is thousands. But since you're sitting there and act like a victim, well, David's just going against me, David's just trying to take over the throne. David wasn't trying to take over the throne, he was just doing what God told him to do. Y'all with me tonight? How many times in church, well, I won't get to do nothing. You know why you probably don't get to do nothing? Because you don't involve yourself with nothing. I'm just being point blank tonight. Well, I'm not involved in a Sunday school class maybe because you haven't asked to be in a Sunday school class. Well, I'm not involved in the bus ministry. Maybe it's because you ain't got to talk to the preacher and talk to the bus director to get involved in the bus ministry. Don't get mad and don't play the victim because somebody else is living victorious. Don't sit there and say, well, I ain't getting involved. I ain't doing this. That's all Saul's done. That is all Saul's done. David's after to get the kingdom. David's after this. David's after that. I'm telling you what, if you'll keep a good heart, and you keep a good heart before God, God will give you opportunities. It ain't hard to look for opportunities. It's not hard. There's things you can do all the time. Amen. There's things to do here at this church, I promise you, 24-7. If you wanted to be here, 24-7. Now, I don't recommend you being here 24-7 because you might get tired and you might fall asleep in the middle of the church service. I don't recommend that. But you know what? There's things you can do. You can vacuum a floor. You say, well, somebody else does that. Well, find something that somebody ain't doing, and why don't you get involved and do it? Don't sit on the sidelines playing the victim, sitting there saying, well, I'm not able to do something, and I'm not able to do this. Go find something that you can do, and do it for the glory of God. Hey man, we got bus visitation Saturday. Guess what? Somebody needs to get on the bandwagon of bus visitation. Well, I can't go walk. You can go over there and you can call the church members and say, hey, I'm praying for you. I'm looking forward to you being at church tomorrow. You can call a friend. You can call a loved one. Hey, that's just as important as going soul winning. That's just as important as going door knocking. That's just as important. Listen, there's something for you to do. Don't sit on the sidelines. Don't sit on the front row. Don't sit on the back row. Don't sit anywhere in the auditorium and sit there and go, Well, I can't find anything to do. Guess what? God will give you something to do if you'll just open your heart and be available to Him. Some people's hands are not dirty because they've got them crossed like this. I'm just being honest. Some people will not get their hands dirty and do something for God because they're sitting like this all the time, saying, there ain't nothing for me to do. God help your soul. There are things for you to do. There are things for me to do. But when we're sitting here and we've got the fleas, and we start itching because somebody else is doing something, and we watch somebody else getting the glory, and God getting the glory, we watch the preacher talk about how good so-and-so is because he went door-knocking, and oh man, man, that just drives me nuts. I can't. Maybe if you do something, maybe God will honor you. I'm just being honest tonight. I want to ask you tonight, have you got the case of the fleas? Have you got the case of the fleas? Tonight it might be you might be going against the preacher. You might be going against the Sunday school teacher. But can I remind you what 1 Samuel chapter 24? And verse number 6 says, And he said unto his men, The Lord forbid that I should do this thing, none of my master, the Lord's anointed, to stretch forth mine hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the Lord. Verse 10, Behold, this day thine eyes have seen how the Lord hath delivered thee today into mine hand in the cave, and some made me kill thee, but mine eye spared thee. And I said, I will not put forth mine hand against my Lord, for he is the Lord's anointed." There's a passage of scripture, and I can't think of it right now exactly where it says, but it says, how can I stretch forth my hand against the Lord's anointed and prosper? That means when you go against your Sunday school teacher, if he's the Lord's anointed or she's the Lord's anointed, guess what? You can't go speak up against the Lord's anointed and prosper. You can't go against the pastor and prosper. David said, I can't go against my king and prosper. I want to ask you tonight, do you have the case of the fleas? Do you have the case of the fleas? Tonight, maybe it's time to go get some flea medicine. That's right here. Can I wave the flea medicine just a minute? This will help you more than anything else. Amen. Hey, if you can't get right, I'm just going to be truthful tonight. If you can't get rid of the case of the fleas, maybe it's time for you to leave. I know that might sound ugly. I know that might sound mean. But if you can't get the fleas out of your life, and you're not willing to take care of them, don't be the hindrance for somebody else getting the fleas. Am I preaching truth tonight? Am I helping you? Sometimes there's so many people, they sit there and they've got a bad spirit about them, and it dwindles over to somebody else. That's how most church splits start, by the way. And if you get rid of the problem, and if you get rid of the solution, Guess what? Church should be a whole lot better. Just being honest. I want to ask you tonight, do you have the case of the fleas? Every head bowed, every eye closed, nobody looking around.
