Welcome to another message from God's Word we've been studying all the parables of the Bible and Our textbook of course is the Bible Many times for mr. Herbert Walker jumps over Some reading we go back and read it and I will preach on that also and this is one of the things we're gonna do right now We're in Matthew the 19th chapter now And all the parables of the Bible were on page 219. But he leaves this great message out. He talked about not harming little children, nor believers. And how that it was a damnable act to hurt little children. We talked about that. We're going to talk about divorce now. Divorce. This is what Jesus is talking about. He's talking about divorce. And it's a parabolic teaching in that two people become one flesh. Two one in flesh and in purpose in our lives as they should. Now, at this period of time, when Jesus spoke this to the Pharisees and the Sadducees and the scribes, they had more than one wife. Many of them had more than one wife. But, because of their greed and their viciousness, if they found a new wife, they would divorce an older wife because they didn't want her anymore. And they use all kinds of excuses to divorce her. And Jesus is putting them down because there are scriptural reasons for divorce. Sometimes a person is so violent that God will not want you in that situation at all. Sometimes a person is so what we call unfaithful in every way, that God would not want you to go through that. Now, in the New Testament, Paul tells about those cases. In the 19th chapter of the Gospel according to Matthew, Jesus is addressing religious people. Religious people that had divorced their wives. And they polish their brownie buttons and say, well, I had a scriptural reason for divorcing my wife. Now what happens to the wife? Well, maybe she will have to become a prostitute or someone's a courtesan. Maybe she will starve to death. This is what happens to the wives. The wives have very little rights at all, very little property. Now, Jesus is addressing these people. He's talking about divorce and the product of marriage, which is children. Now, when Jesus had finished saying these sayings, he left Galilee. Galilee means what? Circle. There were 10 cities around that circle, and all of them had about 15,000 people in those cities, and there was about 150,000 people altogether in that little area. And he went into a part of Judea that is beyond the Jordan. And great crowds followed him and he cured them there in these places. 20, 30, 40, 50,000 people followed him. The word oklos means 5 to 10,000. Okloi means from 8,000 to maybe 20,000. There was a lot of people around Jesus. This is a mega church. that doesn't have coffee and donuts in the vestibule, doesn't have that. And great thongs accompanied him and he cured them there and the Pharisees came to him also and put him to the test by asking, it is lawful, it is lawful. They said, this is what it says, this is what the Bible says, it is lawful. and right to dismiss and repudiate and divorce one's wife for any and every reason, isn't it? They had been doing this for a thousand years. Now, these were their traditions and they had the mission in the Talmud that is the traditions of the fathers and every one verse in the Bible, we have a verse in the Bible and then we have two pages of commentary on it. Now Jesus is going to cut through the mission and he's going to cut through the Talmud and he's going to get right to the meat of the situation here. These people are ungodly, hellish, perverted people, yet religious. He replied, they told him that's what the scriptures say, that's what the mission and that's what the Talmud says, that it is lawful to divorce your wife or whatever cause you might bring up. And he replied, have you never read that he who made them from the beginning made them male and female? And he said, for this reason, the man shall leave his father and his mother and shall be united, firmly joined, and inseparable to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. They liked that. Very nice to become one flesh. They enjoyed that. And they had children because of this. but they did not respect their wives. Their wives were subordinate, and their wives could be disposed of. Genesis 1.27 and 2.24 talks about this. So they're no longer two people, but one person, one flesh. One sarx, one basar. Ahad hina. One flesh. He now sarks one basar, a hot basar. What therefore God has joined together, let no one put asunder or separate. Don't listen to the Mishnah and the Talmud. Read the Bible. And they said to him, why then did Moses command us, us, us, Pharisees, Sadducees, Scribes, Levites, Why did he command us to give a certificate of divorce? And thus to dismiss and repudiate his wife. Dismiss her, repudiate, what does repudiate mean? Just put aside. You don't want it anymore. Deuteronomy 24, 1-4. And he said to them, because of the hardness, the stubbornness, and the crookedness, and the perversity, of your hearts. Moses permitted you to dismiss and repudiate and divorce your wives, but from the beginning it has not been so ordained or so commanded. I say to you, I say to you all, he said, all of you Pharisees, all of you Sadducees, all of you Scribes, all of you Levites, all of you Herodians, all of you Whosoever demisses and repudiates and divorces his wife except for what? What is the term? Unfaithfulness. Unfaithfulness. And marries another, commits adultery. And he who marries a divorced woman also commits adultery. And by the way, that is not in the original there. His disciples said to him, if this case, is this the case of a man with his wife, is like that, if this is the way it is, we don't think we can handle it, Lord. We can't handle this. We can't handle this. This is too much. Then it is not neither profitable nor advisable to marry. Now, we understand that sex outside of marriage is adultery or fornication. And in all reality, you can't have sex outside of marriage, because when you have sex, you are married. That's the act of marriage. Now, Jesus didn't tell them to go out and find three or four more wives, but keep the other one. They wanted to just have to support one. They don't have to feed that old gal. Didn't want to have to feed her. Let somebody else feed her. Let her starve to death. But he said to them, not all men can accept this thing. Yeah, it's rough, isn't it? It is rough. But it's for those to whom the capacity to receive it has been given. They were religious. And Jesus put a stop to their promiscuity. They were religious, promiscuous people. They didn't want to support their wives. They wanted more. They wanted another wife that looked prettier, that was more agreeable, that was younger, and they didn't want to have to support the old hag any longer. But he said, not all men can accept this saying, but for those to whom the capacity to receive it has been given. Who's this to? Who was this saying to? Who did Jesus say this to? Who was the object of this story? The Sadducees, the Pharisees, the Scribes, the Herodians, the Sicari, the religious groupings that were following the Mishnah and the Talmud. For there are eunuchs who have been born incapable of marriage. They don't need to be married. They have no sexual desire at all. Marriage is sex. The act of sex is marriage, people. Now, if you're going to have sex with somebody, you're married to them. Simple as that. Some people are born incapable of committing the act of marriage. And there are eunuchs. We're talking about eunuchs here. A eunuch is someone that cannot procreate or cannot have sex, who have been made so by men. Back in this time, people owned people. And a eunuch didn't have a problem of running off with some girl or some other slave owner's person. And besides that, a eunuch that couldn't perform the act of marriage was safe His wife was safe in her presence. His daughters were safe in her presence. So they would alter men. This is what we call altered. Altered people. They're altered. They've been made eunuchs. And there are eunuchs who have been made themselves incapable of marriage. The Apostle Paul, according to history, had himself made a eunuch after his wife divorced him and his children. He said he could have had a wife, but he chose not. His wife divorced him. He was a divorced man. He said he could have gotten married again. Now his wife, according to history, buried him when he became a Christian. He was a zealot, remember, a Pharisee of Pharisees. But they say that he made himself a eunuch, had himself made a eunuch for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Let him who is able to accept this, accept this. This was spoken specifically for those religious nuts at that time. Now the product of marriage is brought to him. I think this is all the same thing. Did you get the story? Did you get what he's talking about? He popped her bubbles. He said the mission of Talmud is not valid. You have invalidated the word of God with your traditions. And your divorces are not allowable. He spoke to them. Then the products of marriage were brought to him. The little children were brought to Jesus that he might put his hands on them and pray and let the disciples refute those who brought them. Long time ago. Long time ago. My family. My uncle, Willie Paul, was a very successful businessman in Paul's Valley, Oklahoma. He was the son of Sam Paul, which is my great-great-grandfather. He was the grandson of Smith Paul, which was my great-great-great-grandfather. And he lived in Paul's Valley, Oklahoma. And Willie Paul was very, very active in politics. And he had a friend named Governor Haskell, but before Governor Haskell became governor of Oklahoma, he named one of his children's Haskell Paul. Judge Haskell Paul, as he would become. Haskell Paul. He named that boy after him. And one day, Haskell, well, actually, Willie's wife, Victoria, brought Haskell up to Haskell, Governor Haskell. He said, Governor, kiss this baby was named after you. And he was named after you before you were governor. And he kissed the baby and held him in his arms. Now, they were kind of doing the same. Politicians, you know, you had to kiss babies. And if you kissed a woman on the cheek, she just felt like she was just really blessed. This is what politicians and shaking hands. Well, many years later, Haskell Paul came up to former Governor Haskell and he said, my name is Haskell Paul. And he said, yes, I know your father, Willie Paul. He named, he said, I had so many children named after me, but that was after I became governor, but you were the only child that was named after me before I became governor of Oklahoma, Indian Territory. Now this is what they're doing, they're bringing these little children, because Jesus is a very important factor in the holy land, in the land of Palestine. Little children are brought to Jesus and might put his hands on them and pray. But the disciples rebuked those who brought them. But he said, leave the children alone and allow these little ones to come to me. Do not forbid or restrain or hinder them, for such as these is the kingdom of heaven composed." Simple believing souls. A little child believes. We talked about this earlier in one of the other messages that I preach on parables. And he put his hands on them and then went his way. He put his hands on them and they went his way. Our Heavenly Father, we send this message out. On divorce and the product of marriage, Father, help people to understand marriage is a very important decision of their lives. We know in this world, that there were many wicked people, wicked men and wicked women, that sometimes this terrible heritage is all to pieces. Father, I pray that people out there that are considering divorce, other than terrible treatment and promiscuity and unfaithfulness, we'll try to press them up. And those out there right now that are listening to this message that are considering marriage may consider the gravity of that marriage. And look at their wives and their husbands closely because someday they won't be pretty and young anymore. And that is a timely, long-time partners in their lives. Help them to understand to make a partner for life out of those that are like them, that believe like them. And check them out real good. Make sure what kind of family they've come from. And watch the mother and the father of the child. If they're good people, chances are they might be, but if they're not, Most chances they won't be, no matter how much they think they're in love at the time. Father, forgive us where we fail you. Forgive me where I fail you. In Jesus' name I pray, amen.
