I've always wanted that song and family found it. Done many years ago by the singer Americans back in 1984, 85 when they were voted the top quartet in the nation and done by Jason Crabb and the Gaithers. Let's open our Bibles this Lord's Day. To the book of John, we're going to continue and finish the sermon I started last Sunday entitled, Judas the Traitor. Judas the Traitor. We said we had about three main points we wanted to give you that tells us about Judas in detail. We said last Lord's Day that Judas was EXPECTED by the Lord. Judas was EXPECTED by the Lord, and we found that in verse 18 through 22. Now, I want you to notice secondly, as we start our second part of the sermon, secondly, Judas was EXPOSED by the Lord. That's in verse 23 through 26. And in these few verses, we see four people brought into the picture. First of all, we see John, the writer of this gospel. Look at chapter 13, and look at verse 23. Now, there was leaning on Jesus, bosom, one of his disciples whom Jesus loved. And that was John, the apostle that wrote this book and the books, epistles of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd John. Look at verse 25. It says, he then, laying on Jesus' breasts, saith to him, Lord, who is it? Now that means who is it that you said was going to betray you? Remember I said last week that to show you the depths of depravity, here were men that God had chosen to be His apostles, 12, including Judas, and including John that wrote this letter. They had been with Jesus for all of His ministry, 33 years. They had seen His miracles. They had heard His messages. And yet when the Lord said, one of you, one of the 12 is going to betray Me, and none of them said, I bet it's Judas. No, they didn't suspect Judas. But they said, Lord, is it I? And that's what John is saying in verse 25, Who is it? In other words, they did not suspect Judas, but because they knew of their sinful nature, they knew it could have been them. And they said, Lord, is it I? Notice not only we see John here, but we see Peter. We see Peter in verse 24, Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him that he should ask who it should be of whom he spoke. Peter was always the one opening his mouth and putting his foot in it. Peter was always the brash one, you know, and I can see the disciples saying, nudging him, Peter, you ask him. You ask him who it is. And then we not only see John and Peter, but in verse number 26a, we see Jesus. Look at verse 26a, Jesus answered. See that? Jesus answered him. And then in verses number 26b, we see Judas, the betrayer. Look what it says. Jesus answered, He it is, to whom I shall give a sop when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon. Now, sop is something that you dip, like today in some of the restaurants you go to. I know of one in Cincinnati, well, actually, Kenwood, it's an Italian restaurant. And while you're waiting on your meal, before you even order, they bring you a little bit of liquid, looks like olive oil mixed with vinegar and something else, and they bring you the bread. And while you're waiting on your meal, you take and dip your bread, it's called sop, sopping it up. Now that's not new to these older folks, especially from down in Kentucky. When I was a child, every morning for breakfast until I was married and after I was married, my grandmother fixed me for breakfast a cup of coffee. I'm talking about seven, eight years old. But I didn't drink it. She had fixed me four pieces of toast in the oven. Man, that's toast. We didn't know what a toaster was in those days. And she would take that butter and put it all over that toast, put it in the oven, and when it'd come out, that toast was yeller. Yeller with butter. And I would sop. Now, you Yankees would say dip. I would sop up that coffee in my four pieces of toast, and I did that until I was married, maybe long after I was married. Now that's what sop is. They would take whatever they were eating, whether it's a biscuit or a piece of bread, and dip it in a gravy or whatever. And so here we see, first of all, Judas was expected by the Lord And then we've seen secondly, Judas was exposed by the Lord. But thirdly notice, Judas was expelled by the Lord. Judas was expelled by the Lord, verse 27 through 30. Now I want you to notice here, three graphic pictures painted by the Holy Spirit. The first picture here is of Judas and the devil. Look at verse 27, And after the sop Satan entered into him, then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest do quickly. Go do it quickly. Now in verse 27, the first part of that verse, we see the control of Satan in Judas' life. You see, it's a short distance from satanic suggestion to satanic possession. Look at verse 2. Go back to verse 2. And Satan being in ended, The devil, having now put it into the heart of Judas, that's satanic suggestion, put it in the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him. But now, in verse 27, we see that Satan has possessed him. We see here that the command of the Lord, not only the control of Satan, but the command of Jesus. Look at verse 27 again. And after the subject, Satan entered into him, then said, Jesus unto him, that thou doest and the other gospel writers, what thou doest, do quickly. That's a command from the Lord to go on and do it quickly. See, it didn't take Jesus by surprise that Satan was going to betray Him. He knew from all eternity. He's God. He's sovereign. He's got everything under control, whether we see it or not. The second picture here is of Judas and the disciples. Look at verse 28. Now no man at the table knew for what intent he spake unto him. You see that? They still didn't catch on. They still didn't expect Judas. For it said, for what intent or purpose he spoken to Judas. Verse 29, for some of them thought because Judas had the bag or the money that Jesus had sent on him by those things that we have need of against the feast or for the feast. or that he should give something to the poor. So the disciples are still not convinced or sure that it was Judas that the Lord was talking about. Although I thought he made it very plainly. He looked right at Judas and said, the one that dips with me in the sop, it's him. And then he said, Judas, go do it. Go do what you have planned to do. So we see the first picture was of Judas and the devil. Secondly, we see the picture shows Judas and the disciples. But thirdly, we see a picture of Judas and the darkness. Judas and the darkness. Verse 29, and some of them thought because Judas had the bag. Well, let's go down to verse 30, since I've already read 29. He then receiving the sop, went immediately out. Notice what the Holy Spirit writes here. This is a picture of the Holy Spirit making some pictures. And it was night. Did you ever wonder why he put that at the end of that verse and it was night? Well, let's find out. Turn over to the little book of Jude in the back of your Bible just before Revelation. The book of Jude and verse 13. The book of Jude verse 13, these are spots, talking about false believers, false prophets. That's what Judas was, he was a false prophet. Yeah, he was a prophet of God, he was one of the 12 apostles, but he wasn't saved. These are spots in your feast of charity or love. When they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear. Clouds they are without water. In other words, a false prophet promises one thing, but does not give. Clouds they are without water, carried about of wind, trees, whose fruit withereth without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots. He's still describing a lost church member or a lost prophet that preaches. Raging waves of the sea foaming out their own shame. Wandering stars to whom is reserved, watch this, The blackness of darkness forever. The blackness of darkness forever. That's hell, friend. Hell is described of a place of flames, of fire, and yet it's dark. Darkness. The Holy Spirit made a reservation for Judas that night. And that night, darkness engulfed Judas. For Judas, by the way, is still in the night and in darkness. Look with me in the book of Acts chapter number 1. Go with me to the book of Acts chapter 1 concerning Judas. Judas, excuse me, Acts chapter 1. And look with me at verse 25. Verse 25. Well, let's start with verse 24. Now, they're trying to find a replacement for Judas. And it said in verse 24, And they prayed and said, Thou Lord, which knoweth the hearts of all men, show whether of these two thou hast chosen." There are two, they had two selected to vote on, and they're asking the Lord to show them. See, that's why all the denominations except for Baptists are wrong in the fact they let some headquarters or Presbytery or bishops Tell them who to have as pastor and who to get rid of. They can give a pastor somewhere and the church don't even vote on it. The church won't even have him say so. And when the headquarters says, now I'm gonna, that's time for that pastor to move on somewhere else and they send him somewhere else. The church has no authority. That's not Bible. There's no group of men, no board of directors or anybody that has the authority to tell a church who to call his pastor. That's left up to the authority of a New Testament. I preached this the other night about the church judging. Do you know the greatest judicial system, greater than the Supreme Court, is the church of the living God, the local New Testament church of Jesus Christ. He said in Matthew, He said, whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. In other words, what he's saying is, heaven agrees with the authority of the church. Whatever the church decides upon in a vote, that's what a Baptist church is, a democratic body. Every member has a right to vote. And whatever the church decides, is approved of by God in heaven. Now you say, where's that in the Bible? Well, I'll show you that in just a minute, but while I'm here in the book of Acts, look at this Acts chapter one, verse 25. Would you look there with me? That he may take, they're making a choice now, that he may take his ministry and apostleship, who's? Judas. from which Judas by transgression fell, that he, watch this, don't miss this, that he might go to his own place. Where's his own place? To suffer the darkness of hell forever. How sad of ending for Judas. Now let me find it here, excuse me, in the book of Matthew, In the book of Matthew, I'm gonna show you something here. And look at verse 19, 18, chapter 18. Excuse me. Matthew chapter number 18. No, that's not it either. I always have call on shame. Where is it, shame, where he said, upon this rock I'll build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Which one? What's not working? Well, no wonder I don't know the answer. Well, you know more than your dad, what is it? Okay, Matthew chapter six. 16, 18, my goodness. I can't believe I didn't remember that. Well, look at verse, chapter 16, and verse 18, and I say unto, also unto thee, talking to Peter, that thou art Peter, which means a small pebble, and upon this rock, and that's a different Greek word, it means a large, massive rock, Like a foundation. And Jesus is speaking of himself upon this rock, not Peter. I'm glad my church is not built on Peter, because I find in the Bible where Peter sunk. He took his eyes off the Lord and his disbelief, he began to sink. I find in the Bible, I'm glad my church is not built on Peter, because I find the Bible where he denied the Lord three times. But he got forgiven. So it said, upon this rock, speaking of himself, Christ, I will build my church, not one of the Reformers. I will build my church, not John Calvin, not Zwingli, not one of the Popes, not the Wesleys. He said, I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give unto thee, talking about the church, the keys of the kingdom of heaven. Now that don't mean that church saves you, don't mean the church is your means of salvation, but He's given the authority to preach the gospel to His church, His kind of church, whereby people get saved and go to heaven. Listen to it. And once we're in the house, wait a minute, let me go back now, look at verse 19. And I'll give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." See that? So we find here that church has the authority, not a board, not deacons, not a group of people outside somewhere else in Nashville, Tennessee, or wherever your board is. We're not to take authority from them. The Lord's given His local New Testament Baptist Church the authority. And whatever the church decides on down here is decided on, agreed on in heaven. We have the Lord's blessings. when we're in the will of God. When we do it according to the will of God, we have God's blessings. Now that's what that means. Let me just say in closing what a warning to church members today. How close you can be to the Lord and not be saved. Judas, as I said, was one of the 12 apostles. Lived with the Lord for three years, heard his sermons, saw his miracles. and yet was not saved. How sad. I'm afraid we got a lot of people like Judas in our church, our churches. I believe there's a lot of lost church members. They come to church, some of them do, some don't come to church, but some come to church and they go through the motions, they sing the songs of Zion and they give their tithes and their offerings and, you know, they teach, they preach, preachers. I've never been saved. Let me ask you, have you betrayed the Lord? Judas betrayed the Lord for the price of a common slave. 30 pieces of silver. Didn't think much about the Lord, did he? But may I say there's people today in our churches that are selling out to the Lord, selling out for less than that. a drink of alcohol, a smoke of joint, a shot in the arm of drugs, a night of immorality. Then I could go on and on. People today do not want to be saved. They don't want to make Jesus their Lord and Master because they'd rather have their alcohol, their drugs, their immorality, their gambling, their homosexuality, and all these other ungodly sins. They'd rather have that than the Lord. What are you betraying the Lord for? Ask yourself that question. and you're not saved. What are you selling out for? What are you putting before the Lord? How many times in my 52 years of pastoring have I sat down with somebody in their home and went through the Romans road and tried to lead them to the Lord and they said, preacher, I understand that, that sounds good. But I'll be honest with you, preacher, I like my drinking. I like my doping. I'm living with a woman. I'm living with a man. I'm doing something that I should not do, and I just don't wanna give it up. I've heard that many times. If you're here today or watching me by internet, and you've never been saved by the grace of God, let me explain to you how to be saved. First of all, you must realize, recognize, and admit that you are a lost sinner on your way to hell. And be willing to turn and give up that old life of sin and Satan and self. Turn your life to Jesus and receive him as your Lord and Master. And then the Bible, that's called repentance. A change of heart, change of mind that brings you to a change of direction. And then you must believe in your heart that Christ died on a cross for you personally, suffered in your hell, shed his blood to pay for all of your sins, was buried and rose again. And the moment you accept that and believe that and trust in that, he'll save you. For the Bible said, whosoever shall believe on the Lord Jesus Christ shall be saved. Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. The invitation in chapter 21 of Revelation said, let him as heareth say come, let him as a thirst come, and whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely. That's a whosoever will gospel. The Lord invites all, and he refuses none. Could you accept him this morning, right there where you sit? Maybe you're laying in a bed in a hospital, nursing home, prison, jail, wherever you're at. You're gonna be saved anywhere, anytime that you'll trust the Lord as your Savior. We're gonna give an invitation. And if you've accepted the Lord as your Savior, come and tell us about it. And then following in scriptural baptism, which is a profession of your faith, Baptism has no part of your salvation, but it's an outward act of an inward work of grace. It shows what you've done in your heart by the Holy Spirit. You believe Christ died for you, was buried and rose again for you. You show that because you're saved, you're a new creature. You're now dead to the world and dead to the sins of the world. You don't have anything to do with them anymore. You've been buried with Christ and raised to walk in a new life. That's why you need to be baptized. Maybe you need to come to rededicate your life for some other reason. Let's stand. Brother Larry's gonna come and lead us.
