This morning to the book of Luke chapter 1. The book of Luke chapter 1 here this morning. And we're going to begin there in verse 26. The book of Luke chapter 1. We're going to begin there in verse 26. I've entitled this message, Let's Talk About Jesus. Find your place, stand with me if you would, and we'll read the word of God together. Luke chapter 1. Verse 26, and we'll end in verse 33. Let's talk about Jesus. I can't think of anything else better to talk about than the Lord Jesus. There's not another name or anything else that can come close to talking about the great subject of the gospel. the one that made it all possible, the Lord Jesus. Let's begin our text, verse 26. The Bible says, and in the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God into a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph of the house of David, and the virgin's name was Mary. The angel came in unto her and said, Hail thou, thou art highly favored. The Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women. And when she saw him, she was troubled, that is saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. And the angel said unto her, fear not, Mary, for thou hast found favor with God. And behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb and bring forth a son, and shall call his name Jesus. He shall be great. and shall be called the son of the highest. And Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David. And he shall reign over the house of Jacob forever. And of his kingdom there shall be no end. Let's pray. Father, we come to you this morning, and God, we do thank you, Lord, for your blessings. God, we've had some good singing, and Lord, here we are when we open up your word, and I pray, God, that you just use it today to give us what we need to hear from heaven. Lord, help us to talk about Jesus this morning in our hearts and our minds, and Lord, just in our life. Help us to be a people, to share the light, and to witness, and to just let other folks know how they too can get to heaven. God, we love you, we thank you for all that we know you're gonna do for us today. Lord, I pray that you'd help me as I preach, God, just give me a fresh anointing from heaven, and if there's anybody here today that don't know you as their personal savior, then we pray that they would do business with you today. We love you and thank you for all we know you're gonna do, and this we pray in Jesus' name, amen, amen. You may be seated. We notice there in verse 26 here of Luke chapter one, as we talk about Jesus here this morning, The Bible says the angel Gabriel was sent from God into a city of Galilee named Nazareth. Now Nazareth was one of those places that we understand is kind of one of those places where it was considered to be one of the most poverty-stricken areas, I guess. And so that's why sometimes you see when you're reading the Gospels and they talk about the Pharisees and others are talking about the Lord, they say, did anything good ever come out of Nazareth? And so the idea was that Nazareth was just a poverty stricken place and there just really wasn't nothing good that was there or nothing good that ever came out of it. But I'll tell you what, I'm thankful that I serve a God that likes to show everybody up. Amen. We serve a God here this morning that likes to take those that were maybe perhaps born in a place or come out of a place or can take people in certain situations and raise them up and bring them to a place of victory and triumph. You know, I'm just thankful that we have a God that can use anybody anywhere. Listen, don't matter if you was born in a place that wasn't poverty stricken, a place that was well known of great power, listen, God can use those people too. But I'm also thankful that God just didn't look and say, well, I can only use those people. I'm thankful that we have a God in heaven that says, you know what, because we have a God today that's no respecter of persons, well the Bible in essence shows us, listen, you and I are the same. And regardless of where we were born and who our parents are and regardless of how much money we have and the lack thereof, possessions we have and the lack thereof, a God in heaven who doesn't look upon man as man looks upon man, who looks upon man in a completely different way. The Bible says and tells us that that His ways are not our ways, and that His thoughts are not our thoughts. And so God looks upon us different than man does. Different than what society does. And so we see that God's gonna raise a man. He's gonna bring a man, of course, the Son of God, the Son of Man, gonna bring him up out of a place of Nazareth, a place that was completely unexpected by anybody. And I'm so thankful for that, because what that just shows us here today is that God can use anybody, no matter where they come from, and no matter what anybody thinks about the place they're in, God can use that person. And that gives hope for us all here today. And so we see there in verse 26, we see that he went to a place that was called Nazareth, to Galilee. The Bible says in verse 27, to a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph. And so we see that Mary was espoused. She was engaged in essence. to Joseph there. The engagement process with them was pretty much just like the same as marriage, but they hadn't come together yet, of course, and celebrated in any of the festivities of any of those things. But she was a spouse to a man whose name was Joseph. The Bible says that she was a virgin. And listen, the virgin birth, and this isn't my message this morning, but the virgin birth is vital and extremely important to the doctrine of the Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord Jesus must be virgin born. There must be a sacrifice that came from a virgin birth, who wasn't tainted with the nature of sin, such as you and I. Jesus was the perfect Son of God, the sinless Son of God, and so it must have been, it had to have been, a virgin birth. You take away the virgin birth, and we have just taken out, really, one of the pillars of Christianity, and everything begins to fall. The Bible shows us here in verse 29, when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast her mind what manner of salutation this was. As she saw the greeting of this angel that came to her, she began to wonder, what kind of invitation, what kind of greeting is this? No one had ever seen anything like this before. And the Bible says in verse 31, as he began to speak, the Bible says, Behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus. The very first truth I want us to see today as we talk about the name Jesus is that we see the name. Well now, what does the name Jesus mean? Well, the name Jesus, the idea of the name Jesus, simply meaning Jehovah saves or God saves. And when we think about what his name means, we see all of that God saved, Jehovah saves, or Jehovah is salvation wrapped up in the name of Jesus. And that's who Jesus is, and that's what Jesus does, and that's what Jesus represents. He represents life and salvation and eternity. And the Bible says there in verse 31, the Bible says, behold thou shalt conceive in thy womb and bring forth a son and shalt call his name Jesus. I like the difference between verse 31 and 32 where it says you shall bring forth a son and we got a son, the s is a lowercase s. You're gonna have a son, which means he's gonna have a child and it's gonna be a little boy. But then he gets to verse 32 and he says, but listen, this isn't just a son. This is the Son, with a capital S there. This isn't just a son, this isn't just a normal just little boy that's gonna be born just like anybody else. This is gonna literally be the Son of God, the Son of the highest, not like anybody else. The Bible shows us there in verse 31, what do we see in the name? So we talk about Jesus a little bit this morning. What do we see in his name? Well, you'll notice there in verse 31 his name, in all caps there, in verse 31, shall call his name Jesus. What can we see out of His name? Well, I think the letter J there, we can see the justification of sin. Now, what does it mean to be justified? It means to be declared righteous. It means that there is nothing standing against me that would make me guilty. And listen, that is wrapped up in the name of the Lord Jesus. I mean, the gift of God who gave us the Lord Jesus, the part of the gift is, is that we can be declared righteous before God if we accept the gift of heaven. If we accept the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior. Then we receive, in essence, the gift of justification. Then we can receive something we didn't have, which is righteousness. We see something we didn't have, which is holiness. And so the Bible shows us, in essence, that in the name Jesus, I believe that one of the things that we can get out of Jesus, one of the gifts that he gives, is justification, that we can be declared righteous. Man, praise the Lord for the fact that there's nothing standing against us today. Listen, for those of us that are saved, praise God that we have a God in heaven that said, listen, I'll send my son and he'll cleanse you and he'll wash you of every single sin that you've ever committed. I'm talking every thought, I'm talking every word, I'm talking every deed, every single bit of it, completely forgiven, completely washed away, you are justified, I have given you righteousness, I have given you holiness, something you did not possess on your own. And we stand justified before God today. Man, that right there is enough when we think about our life and we think about, as I was talking about even on this past Tuesday night, about our inconsistencies sometimes in our Christian walk, and our failures sometimes in our life in our Christian walk, because we understand that we're not always what we need to be, and we don't always live the Christian life like we need to. Listen, from the pulpit to the pew, ain't none of it's perfect. And so what that does is that that helps us to really appreciate, listen, the fact that we have been justified before an almighty God. that we stand before the Lord today in the greatness of his salvation washed in his blood, justified before an almighty God, and that one of these days when we get to heaven, that we will see that there is no sin to be judged for. Man, praise the Lord for that. that we can stand justified. And that justification is all wrapped up in the gift of the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. That right there is enough to make every single one of us wanna shout and praise God here this morning. I mean, the justification, the fact that despite of our failures and despite who we are sometimes in life, that the God of heaven justified us. knowing beforehand all the things that we would ever do, knowing beforehand in his foreknowledge all the things we would ever say, and the life that we would live, and he still desired to save you anyway. Praise the Lord for that. Justification wrapped up in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Not only do we see justification there the letter J in his name, but I think we also can see the letter E there for everyone. Praise the Lord that everyone can receive this gift of salvation. Praise God for that. I'm thankful here today that, listen, that there is nobody outside of the reach of the God of heaven. Listen, if the Bible says that with God all things are possible, then we know that through God there is nothing impossible with God. Then who can be so far out in the depths of the darkness that God could not reach, that God could not get to? There is nobody. He saves to the uttermost. And the gift of salvation was given to every single person, to every single person who has been born. The gift of salvation, no matter who you are, no matter where you were born, whether it's here in the States or some village somewhere on the Amazon or anywhere else in this world, the gift of salvation is for you. It's for everybody. It's for everyone. Now, I'm not gonna Moral of my message with Calvinism this morning, and getting myself sick, but I'm thankful that the Lord Jesus is for everybody. I'm thankful he's for every single person. The Bible says, he's not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. Listen, God's already chosen me, so what all I need to do is choose him back. God's chosen us. And listen, whenever He reaches down and speaks to our hearts, may we choose Him in return. May we look up at the God of heaven and say, thank you God for speaking to me. I'm not going to resist you today, but I'm going to choose you too. Yes. Listen, salvation's for everybody. Every single person. Wrapped up in the gift of the Lord Jesus Christ. Wrapped up in His name. Not only do we see the letter E there, but we see the letter S there in his name. Salvation. Salvation from what? Salvation from sin. Salvation from hell as we spoke on Tuesday night. The having been delivered in essence. From one place to the next. Having been delivered from the power of sin. And delivered from the place of hell. When I got saved. I was delivered from the power of sin. God moved in my heart, moved and dwelt, now lives inside of me and so now I proclaim the great truth that greater is He that is in me than he that is in this world. That I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me here this morning. And so here today I see this letter S in his name as salvation there in the middle part of his name. So why'd you put that into really, in essence, I guess you would see that as the middle part of his name because everything else is wrapped up in the center of salvation. Jesus is salvation. He is life. He is eternal life. The Bible says he that has the Son has life. And he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. And so Jesus in essence is life. Colossians says by him all things consist. And so the letter S there in the middle part of his name, I can think of perhaps maybe no greater word than to understand that he is salvation. Because without Him, there is no salvation. He is salvation. What's the next thing? Well, we see the letter U there in His name. And what's the letter U? Well, I would see that letter U as unique. There's never been another person like Him. And there never ever will. The Lord Jesus is unique. He is precious. There's never been another person like the Lord Jesus. There has never been nobody else that has ever been virgin born. There has never been anybody else that can come down to this earth and do what Christ did on Calvary to save a man and deliver a man from the power of sin and deliver him from the death grip of death, hell, and the grave and write his name down in the land book of life and give him a place in heaven. There's never been anybody else that has ever been able to do such a thing but the Lord Jesus Christ himself. unique, precious. Not only do we see you in His name, but we also see the last S in His name, the sanctification. That not only did He forgive me of my sin, but He also sanctified me. He set me apart. He made me holy, he made me righteous, and every single day, as we grow more and more in the Lord, every single day as we conform more into his image, we see how much more that we need to continue to grow. Every single day, the more we grow, the more we see how much more that we need to grow. But I've been sanctified, I've been set apart in the Lord. I've been made holy by God. Sanctification So we see his name there in verse 31 There in verse 32 we also see Not just his name, but we also see his nobility There in verse 32 the Bible says he shall be great and he shall become the son of the highest and the Lord shall give unto him the throne of his father David and And there in verse 32, the Bible speaks of his greatness. The Bible says, the capital S there, I showed you that already, the son of the, and then the highest is also a capital H. signifying from where he's coming from. He is the son. He is the son of who? The son of the highest. Listen, you can't get no higher than the highest. I mean, the highest is the highest you can possibly get. And so we see that Jesus, the son of God, is the son of the highest. He's not just a son. He's not just a boy. It's not just gonna be a man, it's not just gonna be a king that sits on a throne, but it's gonna be the Son. of the Almighty God, who sits on the throne of heaven, who sits on the throne of earth, who sits on the throne of David. The Bible shows us there in verse 32, the nobility of the Son, not just the name of the Son, but the nobility of the Son, that He is great and that He is the Son of the highest, the Son of the highest that you can possibly get. And He says He sits on the throne of His Father David. I'm thankful this morning that, listen, when we get saved, that we become not just children of God, which is great, but we also become children of nobility because we're sons of God and daughters of God. Sons of nobility, children of nobility. The Bible shows us there in verse 32 that he is the Lord, that the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David. So here this morning we sit here and we enjoy and rejoice over the name of Jesus and all that we receive in that precious gift. But we also rejoice in the fact that we see that Jesus, we see the nobleness that he is from nobility, which there in verse 26 we can see that in his earthly birth, he's from a place of Nazareth, a place of poverty. But then you get to verse 32 and we see where he really originated from is a place of plenty. He is the king. There in verse 32, we see that he is great, that he is the highest, that he sits on the throne. But there in verse 26, we see that he come from a place that was of nathers, a place that was poor. We see that when the son of God was born, that there he was laid there in a manger. There wasn't some huge entourage of people that were there. The red carpet wasn't rolled out for his family. He laid there in a feed trough. By most people's standards would say, wow, that's pretty poor. He has nowhere to even really stay. He didn't have all these people gathered around. The horns and trumpets weren't blowing. There wasn't a crowd of people that were outside trying to take pictures. There wasn't a grand symphony that was out there welcoming the birth of the Savior in essence by man. But I'm thankful the heavenly host, the angels of heaven, God's creation. The Bible shows us here, we see the nobility of the Son. He wasn't much by the standards of the world. He was a man that left the glories of heaven and came down to this world to give unto man that which he could not have and possess on himself, which is eternal life. Eternal life. Man cannot attain that on his own. But yet the Lord Jesus descends from heaven, born of a virgin. God clothed himself. You can't see God because he's a spirit. So he clothed himself in flesh and gave himself to man. His nobility. We think about a lot of the nobles we see out in the world today. We think about the kings and princes of England and other countries that still have these things. We see how they're greeted when they come off airplanes or whenever they're sitting in certain places and all the privileges and all of that that come. Listen, when the Son of God came down to this world, He didn't receive any of that. But I'm thankful for the next verse. Not only do we see the name of the Son, not only do we see the nobility of the Son, but I think in verse 3, one of the things that we're definitely going to get used to is the normalcy of the Son. The Bible says in verse 33 that he shall reign over the house of Jacob. What's that next two words? Forever. He's going to reign forever. Listen, God today sits on the throne of heaven. The earth is his footstool. God is in control of all things. But listen, one of these days, as the Bible says, every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord. And listen, even the devil himself, I believe one of these days, he's gonna confess himself. that Jesus is Lord. I believe that one of these days, listen, we're gonna see Jesus ourselves, and whenever we do, we're gonna stand there in awe as we see his beauty and his power and his majesty. I can think of a lot of words for a sunset, and I can think of a lot of words for some beautiful mountains, and I can think of a lot of words for some beautiful things that I've seen in this world. But I believe when I see Jesus, I don't know if I'm gonna have, I don't know what word I'm gonna search for. It's the name, it's how I can describe Jesus even in a dictionary anywhere. I don't know if there's enough words to describe the awesomeness of our God. Is there, not in just the English dictionary, but in dictionaries around the world, in every language, I mean, is there enough words there to describe the greatness and the beauty and the power and the majesty of the God of heaven? I dare say not. Bible shows us here, we see that one of these days, We're going to see there in verse 33 that he shall reign over the house of Jacob. And this is something that will be forever. This is something that will be everlasting. And of his kingdom there shall be no end. And listen, there are ends to lots of things. There are ends to presidencies. There are ends to kings and rulership. There are ends to things on this world. And listen, no matter how much we try to fix it, and no matter how much we try to help it, listen, all things in this world will eventually come to an end. But the Bible says there in the text that Jesus and his ruling reign, that it'll be forever. And that, my friend, is something to get used to. That will be the normalcy of the day. We look around us today and we say, man alive, I can't believe how we got this happening and this going on and this taking place. And we look around society and we're like, oh my goodness, what in the world? And it seems like, listen, as the world progresses, that this becomes the new type of normal. But it seems like the normal just changes for the worse and the worse and we just accept and the worse and the worse, but one of these days, the Lord Jesus is gonna come back, and he's gonna rule and reign from heaven in all justice and power, and the normalcy of it all will be from the throne of God himself, not from this earth, not from this world, not from a worldly throne. The Bible shows us here in verse 33 that he shall reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there shall be no end. So as we think about ourselves here this morning, we think about our life, we think about the name Jesus. Have we accepted within ourselves the things that Jesus offers us today? We see that his name, a good picture of justification, a good picture how everyone is acceptable, a good picture of salvation from sin and hell delivered from such things. We see a good picture of the uniqueness and the preciousness of the God that we serve, but also the sanctification that he gives. But we're also thankful this morning for his nobility, and we're thankful that one of these days, the normal that we see today won't be the normal that will be later. One of these days, things will be very different than they are today. So as we think about our life this morning, we think about who we serve, and we think about the direction that we're going, when we think about the things that Jesus offers us, so many more things than what I've mentioned here today. But when we think about these things, How many of us have accepted Jesus? Let's pray this morning. Father, we come to you today, we thank you, Lord, for your goodness. Lord, I pray this morning that you would speak to hearts. Lord, help us today to seek your face. As we think about your name, Today, as we think about your name throughout this month, just your name. The name that the angels of heaven bow to. The name that all men will one day bow to. We think about all the things that you offer and all the things that you give. Lord, all wrapped up there in the middle of salvation. Would there be anybody here today that would say, Preacher, I'm not saved, but I sure would like to receive these things this morning. I sure would like to know about these things that are wrapped up in the name of Jesus. If I died here today, I know I wouldn't go to heaven. If I died here today, I'm not sure, Preacher, if I'm even saved. Nobody's looking but me and God, but would you just slip your hand up so I can see you. Maybe anybody like that anywhere. I'm not sure if I'm a saved preacher, but I sure do want to know that I am. As the piano plays, Brandon's going to sing here in just a minute. You can stand to your feet. We're going to open up the altar this morning. If you'd like to come and pray, I encourage you to come. Listen, maybe this morning you just wanna come and just say, I'm thankful that I'm saved. Maybe this morning you just wanna kneel at the altar and just say, you know what, I'm thankful for all that God has given me. I'm just thankful. I praise his name for the blessings that he has bestowed upon my life. I just give God praise. I give God glory today for whatever it could be. If it's about salvation, you make sure you come up here and you say, preacher, I wanna get saved. I'm going to have somebody open up a Bible this morning and show you today how you can get saved. Brianna sings. I don't need silver And I don't need gold I don't need the things of this world To satisfy my soul But I need Jesus And all He can give He's my salvation, and He's what I live for And he's all I need when trials come. And he's all I need when there's nowhere to turn. And when I'm in trouble and caught in the storm, he takes care of me. And he's all I need When that time will come When I cross the river When my life here is done And I fought the battle The victory's been won He's all I need And I don't need fortune And I don't need fame I don't really care if anyone Knows my name Cause I know Jesus And Jesus knows me And that's all that matters, cause he is the master And he is my everything And he's all I need when trials come And he's all I need when there's nowhere to turn And when I'm in trouble and caught in the storm He takes care of me And he's all I need When that time will come When I cross that river When my life here is done And I fought the battle The victory's been won He's all I need And he's all I need when my time has come When I cross that river when my life here is done And I fought the battle, the victory's been won He's all I need I don't need silver And I don't need gold I don't need the things of this world To satisfy my soul But I need Jesus And all he can give He's my salvation and He's what I live for And he's all I need when trials come And he's all I need when there's nowhere to turn And when I'm in trouble and caught in the storm He takes care of me And he's all I need When that time will come When I cross that river When my life here is done And I fought the battle The victory's been won He's all I need And I don't need fortune And I don't need fame I don't really care if anyone knows my name Cause I know Jesus And Jesus knows me And that's all that matters Cause He is the master and He is my help and he's all I need when trials come and he's all I need when there's nowhere to turn and when I'm in trouble and caught in the storm he takes care of me And he's all I need When that song will come When I cross that river When my life here is done And I fought the battle The victory's been won He's all I need Amen, praise the Lord. Aren't you glad he's all you need this morning? So thankful for Jesus and all the things that are wrapped up in his name. There's not enough letters in the alphabet and there's not enough words in any language of the world to describe his greatness. I'm so thankful for Jesus today. Let's pray this morning and let's be dismissed. If I could, Brother Barry, would you pray for us today?
