Well, I'm trying just to fly a piece so that it's not taking me to the right place. Maybe it's backwards. I think so. Well, my regular page is not coming up. Oh. figure bill? I didn't know there was one on Facebook. You might have been excluded. I might have been. You have your PC. We're just going to let her have her song. Stop. Stop. Don't use the earthbound cuphead when you're still like this. Well, how did you do that? Whoa! Whoa! I swam out the same place as what I'm used to. Is that you surfing? I don't know. I knew she was going to make me look really bad. All right. Now is it locked? Oh, is it? Are we live now? It probably is. Yeah, okay. Somebody else is shaking their, the ball specter's shaking her head, yeah. Okay, so now we're live. So everybody that's watching the live or watching the recording later, we were supposed to have three speakers tonight, so we've only got two here, so they're going to preach a little bit longer if they want, as long as they don't go too long. That's a weird invitation to preach longer. Yeah, so Brother Travis Pyle is going to preach for us first, and then Justin Meyer after that. Brother Travis is a member at Muslim Youth Church Okay, so I'm at Grace Landmark Fathers Church in Kettlesburg, Kentucky. I was getting there. This is his pastor, Chris Mark, who was preaching our revival last week. And I'll have five nights in a row to remember his stuff. Brother Travis, you want to come ahead? And Lord Travis is the grandson of Willard Powell, who a lot of our viewers know and remember. Have you got an update on your grandparents? I do that. She's doing a little bit better. She's back home now. OK, good. All right. Thank you. I'm thankful for the privilege and opportunity to be here with you this evening. I'm thankful to the church and the faculty and schools for the invitation. I want to speak for you this evening. I want to open to 2 Corinthians chapter number 4, beginning in verse 3 down to verse 7. I want to speak on the glory of the gospel of Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians chapter 4, beginning in verse 3. It says, But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost, in whom the God of this world hath blinded the mind of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, which is the image of God, should shine unto them. For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves servants for Jesus' sake. For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, has shined in our hearts to give life and knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. For that we have this treasure in earthen vessels of the excellency of Christ, and the excellency of the power may be of God and not of us. This evening I want to look at one of the most glorious, amazing subjects in all the Bible. It is central, or is the central theme of the Word of God. It is a message that is dear and precious to our hearts, a message that never gets old. We never get tired of hearing about the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ. And so we want to see the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ. That's where we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord. For God, who has commanded the light to shine out of darkness, has shined in our hearts to give life and knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. For lost sinners, there is no place where the glory of Christ shines brighter than in the gospel. There's nothing more amazing, nothing more glorious to a lost sinner than coming to the knowledge of the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ. We live in a fallen world, corrupted by sin. No one is born without his curse, nor can they escape his reach. Romans chapter 5 verse 12 tells us, So wherefore as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin, and so death passed upon all men for all of sin. Because of sin, man is totally corrupted. Every part of man, his mind, his will, his emotions, and flesh have been corrupted by sin. Isaiah chapter 1 verses 1 through 4 tell us that the whole head is sick, but the whole heart, faint, from the sole of the foot even to the head. There is no soundness in it. We're also told that man's heart is deceitful and desperately wicked, as Jeremiah 17 verse 9 tells us. Psalm 51 verse 5 says, Behold, I was shaken in iniquity. and sin did my mother conceive me. We're born without hope in our sins. We're in desperation. The description of unrepentant man's status is utterly hopeless. We're dead in trespasses and sins. Ephesians chapter 2 verse 1 tells us. Dead men are unable to do anything. Dead men have no hope. Dead men are utterly helpless. And even worse than just being dead in sins, is that we stand guilty before the thrice holy God of heaven, and there will be none who will be able to escape his judgment for their sins. And Romans chapter number 3, beginning in verse 10, we see the condemnation of sinful man. It says, as it is written, there is none righteous, no, not one. I mean, there is none righteous, none, not one. For time, we'll skip down to verse 19. The verses 11 through 18, which describe even in more detail the depravity of man. But in verse 19, it says, and that for now that we know what things soever the law sayeth, that sayeth to them who are under the law, that every mouth that be stopped, and all the world become guilty, or may become guilty before God. All mankind stands guilty before God. And then in verse 23, for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. The perfect standard that we must meet is the absolute perfection of God. And we have all fallen short, far short. We live in a world of spiritual darkness. Man is utterly blind to his devastated condition. Everything has been totally destroyed by sin. And man is under the just condemnation for his sins and stands guilty before our God. And there's nothing that we can do to appease the wrath of God for our sins. In Romans chapter 8, verses 7 and verse 8, it says, Because the carnal mind is an enmity against God, for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be, so then that they that are in the flesh cannot please God. They that are in the flesh cannot please God. There's nothing that we can do to earn our salvation, to earn our forgiveness, to appease the wrath of God for our sins. And in our sins we are the enemies of God, and the wrath of God abides over us. Galatians 3 and verse 22 tells us that the scripture hath concluded that all are under sin, All are under sin, under the condemnation for our sins. The question is, what can we do? And the answer is nothing. We can do nothing. We are hopeless, hopeless in and of ourselves. And the penalty for our sin is death. Romans 6 and verse 23 tells us, for the wages of sin is death, and not just physical death, but eternal death and punishment from the lake of fire. We deserve the judgment of God. We all deserve hell. It's appointed unto man once to die, but after this the judgment. Man is in serious trouble. There's nothing that we can do to escape the judgment of God in our lost and sinful condition. The only hope that man has is to plead for mercy before a righteous and holy God. But there is good news. The glorious gospel of Jesus Christ is good news. Wonderful, amazing news to those who have come to the knowledge of their sins and their condition before God. We can't see how glorious the gospel is until we first come to an understanding of how desperate we truly are. And we see that we are deserving of hell and a judgment of God because we've sinned against him and him alone. We see our desperate need of his mercy. And we think of the Philippian jailer who fell down before Paul and Silas, trembling and said, sirs, what must I do to be saved? Lost sinners cry out for mercy when they come to acknowledge of their sins. We are in need of God's mercy. Or you think of blind Bartimaeus who sat begging and heard Jesus coming and cried out for mercy. In Mark chapter 10 verses 47 and 48. Mark chapter 10 verse 47. It says, and when they heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy upon me. It's such a beautiful phrase. Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy upon me. Verse 48 says, and many charged him that he should hold his peace, but he cried all the more a great deal. Thou son of David, have mercy upon me. Thou son of David, have mercy upon me. There's good news for those who seek the mercy of God. Christ had mercy upon him, and he has mercy upon all those who would call upon his name. What about the publican in chapter 18, verses 13 and 14? Says, and the publican, standing afar off, would not so much lift up his eyes out of the heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God, be merciful to me, a sinner. I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other. For everyone that exalteth himself shall be abased, and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted. God, be merciful to me, a sinner. God, be merciful. As sinners who are dead in trespasses and sins, we need the mercy of God. Mercy is our only place. Romans 10 verse 13 tells us, for whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. The gospel is certainly good news, wonderful news. In Luke chapter number 2, in verses 9 through verse 11, It says, And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and glory and glory of the Lord shone round about them. And they were sore afraid. And the angel said of them, Fear not, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. Not is there just good news, but good tidings of great joy. What good tidings! What great joy! There is hope for the hopeless. There is hope for the desperate. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. Praise God, there is a Savior who is Christ the Lord. We are hopeless in our sins and in our need of a Savior who is Christ the Lord. Without Christ we would all perish in our sins. And what we were unable to do, Christ's deal on the cross for unworthy sinners. Christ appeased the wrath of God for unworthy sinners. Without the glorious gospel of Christ, we would all die in our sins, without God and without hope. And we were perishing in our sins. But God in His mercy and His love sent forth His Son. In John chapter 3, verses 16 through 19, It says, For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Forget God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned, but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. He that whosoever believeth in him should not perish. Lost man is already condemned in their sins outside of the gospel. And he will perish in his sins. Jesus is the only hope for lost mankind. And what a glorious hope he is. What a wonderful message that we have. Whosoever believeth in him should not perish. That alone would be good news. But the good news doesn't end there. Whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Those who are dead, and trespasses and sins, shall have everlasting life. Those who are guilty, and deserving of hell, shall not perish, but shall have everlasting life. How great is the mercy of our great God. In Psalms chapter 103, the beginning of verse 1, It says, Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me. Bless his holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all of his benefits. For who forgiveth all thine iniquities? Who healeth all thy diseases? Who redeemeth thy life from destruction? Who crowneth thee with loving kindness and tender mercies? How can we not praise the Lord our God? Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me. Bless His holy name, who forgiveth all thine iniquities. We're a people of great sin, but our God is a God of great mercy. In verse 8 it says, The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy. The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy. He will not always try, neither will He keep His anger forever. He hath not dealt with us after our sins, nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. O how we deserve His wrath! But O how great is His mercy! Verse 11 says, For as heaven is high above the earth, so great is His mercy toward them that fear Him. As far as the east is from the west, so far hath He removed our transgressions from us. He hath removed our sins from us. How glorious is the gospel of Jesus Christ. Oh, what great news there is for those who have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Not only is the gospel a glorious gospel, but it's also a gospel of peace. We've been given a gospel of peace. Back in Romans chapter 5, the beginning in verse 1, It says, therefore, being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. We who are the enemies of God and under His wrath have been given peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. We have been given the gospel of hope, in verse 2, it says, by whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand and rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. And not only so, But we glory in tribulations, also knowing that tribulation worketh patience, and patience experience, and experience hope. And hope maketh not ashamed, because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost, which is given unto us. We who are the outcast have been given access by faith into this grace wherein we stand. We're no longer standing in our sins, nor are we standing upon our good works, but we're standing upon His grace. And what greater foundation could our hope be resting upon than the infinite, matchless grace of God, that amazing grace, a grace that is greater than all our sin. What great rejoicing is there for the child of God who once had no hope, but has been given hope of the glory of God through the glorious gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. The gospel is the gospel of grace. Verse 6, it says, for when we are yet without strength, In due time Christ died for the ungodly, for scarcely for a righteous man will one dare to die, yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. Not for the righteous, but for the ungodly. And what makes the gospel all the more glorious is that we don't deserve it, nor did we earn it, nor could we add to it. The gospel is the free gift of God's grace. The gospel is the gospel of love, verse 8. It says, but God commended His love toward us, and that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Oh, how great the love of Christ must be for Him to die for us while we are yet sinners. How great the love of God must be for God to send His only begotten Son to die for sinners. Yes, the gospel is the gospel of love. The gospel is the gospel of justification. In verse 9, much more than being now justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath through Him. Much more than being justified by his blood, we shall be saved in the wrath of him. We who are under the condemnation for our sins have been justified through the gospel. The gospel not only frees us from the penalty of our sins, but justifies us before God. Because of the glorious gospel of Christ, we are just as if we had never sinned. And how wonderful and how glorious is the gospel of Jesus Christ. The gospel is the gospel of reconciliation. Verse 10, for if when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his son, much more being reconciled, we should be saved by his life. Because of our sins, we were separated from God. We were enemies, but through Christ, we've been given, or been reconciled to the death of his, through his death, and much more being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. The gospel of salvation, we shall be saved by his life. It's also the gospel of great joy, verse 11. And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement. Oh, the joy that is given to the one who is dead and is alive again. Yes, the gospel is a gospel of life, not just any life, but eternal life. Verse 21 says that sin hath reigned in the dead, and even so might the grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord. What a glorious gospel we have. Yes, what great rejoicings, therefore, were lost and have been found. In Luke chapter 15, from verse 4 down to verse 10, It says, What man among you, having a hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which was lost, until he find it? And when he hath found it, he layeth upon his shoulders rejoicing. And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbors, saying unto them, Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost. I say unto you that likewise joyous shall be in heaven. over one sinner that repented, moreover the ninety and nine just persons which need no repentance. There is joy in heaven over one sinner who repented. Verse eight, either what man or what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle and sweep the house and seek diligently till she find it. And when she had found it, she called her friends and neighbors together, saying, Rejoice with me, for I have found the piece which I had lost. Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repents. The gospel brings joy. And then down in the chapter, we come to the story of the prodigal son. He turned his back upon his father and went off and wasted his substance to provide his living. And after that he had come to the end of his way, it seemed that his sins had left him, eating him to swine. I want to pick up in verse 17. It says, when he came to himself, he said, how many hired servants of my father's have bread enough to spare, and I perish with hunger. I will arise and go to my father and say unto him, father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, I am no more worthy to be called thy son. Make me as one of thy hired servants. And he arose and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, His father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell down, fell upon his neck, and kissed him. And the son said unto the father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight am no more worthy to be called thy son. But the father said unto his servants, bring forth the best robe. and put it upon him, and put a ring upon his hand, and shoes upon his feet, and bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it, and let us eat, and be married. For this was my son, or this my son was dead, and is alive again. He was lost, and he is found, and it began to be married." What a beautiful picture of salvation this is. How God has given us everything. and yet we have rebelled and sinned against him. We're unworthy of the least of his blessings, and yet the Lord has had compassion upon us. God spared nothing from us, but has given us the best that he has through the gospel of his son, the Lord Jesus Christ. We who were in the miry clay of sin have been given the best robe, a ring on our hand, and shoes upon our feet. The gospel brings forth celebration to those who have received it. For this my son was dead and is alive again. He was lost and he is found and they began to be married. And what great joy is there for the child of God who has been given the gospel. What great rejoicing there is there in heaven over one sinner who repents. It's also a gospel of power in 1 Thessalonians chapter number 1 beginning in verse 5. For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance, as ye know what manner of men we are, or were among you, for your sake. The gospel is a gospel of power. For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, Paul said, For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God and the salvation to every one that believes, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. It has the power to save sinners, not in word only, but in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance. The gospel is the gospel of transformation, verse 9. For they themselves show of us what manner of entering in we have unto you, and how you turn to God from idols to serve the living and true God. The gospel turns us from idols and from serving sin to serve the living and the true God. And the gospel changes our hearts to hate sin and to love God. And there's certainly power in the gospel. The gospel is the gospel of deliverance, verse 10. and to wait for his son from heaven, who he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come." Even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come. The gospel has delivered us from the wrath, the wrath that we justly were owed. Are we amazed by the gospel of Jesus Christ? Again, we see from Romans chapter 10, as we've seen from Romans chapter 5, the gospel There's a gospel of peace in Romans chapter 10, verses 9-16. That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and thou shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. Thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and thou shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead. Thou shalt be saved. This is the gospel. Thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and thou shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead. Thou shalt be saved. Thou shalt be saved. Verse 10, so with the heart man believeth under righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. But the scripture saith, whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek in the saying of the Lord over all his rich and all them that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. There is mercy to be found for those who call upon the name of the Lord. Verse 14 said, how shall they call upon him whom they have not believed? How shall they believe upon him whom they have not heard? How shall I hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach except they be sinned? As it is written, how beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace and that bring glad tidings of good things. It is the gospel of peace. How beautiful are the feet of those who bring the gospel to sinners in need of peace. Not all men will receive it, but to those who believe, how beautiful are the feet of those who gave them the gospel We have the greatest message in all the world. We have the greatest and most important ministry in all the world. We have the good news. We have the greatest news. The whole world is plagued by sin, and we have the cure. It is the gospel of peace. We tell sinners how they can have peace with God, how they can be free from the condemnation of sin, and how they may have eternal life. There's no greater message. We bring good tidings of great joy, as there is a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. What a privilege that God has given to us who are saved, who can be used in the witness of the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ. In Colossians chapter 1, the beginning of verse 19, it says, For it pleased the Father that in him should all fullness dwell, and having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things to himself. By him, I say, whether there be things in earth or things in heaven. and you that were sometimes alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now he hath reconciled in the body of his flesh through death to present you holy and unblameable and unreprovable in his sign. If you continue in the faith, grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope, that is, of the gospel which you have heard and was preached unto you, and I preach to every creature, which is under heaven, whereof Paul, having made minister, having made peace through the blood of his cross, and you, who were sometimes alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now he hath reconciled in the body of his flesh through death to present you holy, unblameable, unreprovable in his sight. What great news, what glorious, amazing gospel that we have What a great and glorious hope for those who believe it. If you continue in the faith, grounded and settled, you will not be moved away from the hope of the gospel. It is the gospel of grace in Acts chapter 20 verse 24. He says, But none of these things move me, neither count my life dear unto myself, so that I may finish my course with joy in the ministry which I have received of the Lord Jesus Christ, to testify of the gospel of the grace of God. I count not my life dear unto me, or dear unto myself, that I might finish my course with joy in the ministry which I have received of the Lord Jesus Christ, to testify of the gospel of the grace of God. We also have the ministry to testify of the gospel of the grace of God. The gospel is all of grace. The gospel is not of ourselves or anything that we can do, but it is the gift of God. It is the gospel of salvation again in 1 Corinthians chapter number 15, Daniel verse 1. The box will establish. I believe the seal of the Home Spirit promise. I want to say that we're being a hope, assurance of the Home Spirit. To be honest, I'm hearing things. And so when this corruptible shall put on incorruption, and this mortal shall put on immortality, then shall it be brought to pass a saying that is written, death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. We who were dead and trespassed in sin have been given victory over sin in the grave. Sin and death are our two greatest adversaries, but by the gospel of Jesus Christ we are given victory. The thanksgiving of God has given us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Again, we have a glorious gospel, an amazing gospel. In 1 Timothy, chapter number 1, Verse 11. It says, According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which is committed to my trust, I thank Christ Jesus our Lord who hath enabled me, for that he hath counted me to be faithful, putting me into the ministry He was before a blasphemer, a persecutor, injurious, but I attained mercy, as I did it inignorantly and unbelieved. And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love, which is in Christ Jesus. This is a faithful saying, worthy of all expectation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, for whom I am chief. How be it for this cause I attain mercy, that it in me first Jesus Christ might show forth all long-suffering for a pattern to them which should be hereafter. Believe upon him to life everlasting. Now unto the king eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise, God, be glory, or be honor and glory forever and ever, amen. With I obtained mercy, and the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love, which is in Jesus Christ, our Christ Jesus. This is a faithful saying, worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, to whom I am chief. We have a Savior who came not to save the righteous, but to save sinners. When we've all sinned, we've all fallen short of the glory. But thanks be to God, there's a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. Mark chapter 2, verse 17. It says, when Jesus heard it, he said unto them, they that are whole have no need of a physician. They that are sick, I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. How sad, so many don't see their need, don't see their sickness. The whole, they that are whole have no need of a physician. They that are sick, I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. And we see our sin and our need of the Savior. In 1 Timothy chapter 1 verses 16 and 17, it says, Howbeit for this cause I have attained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show forth all longsuffering for a pattern for the Hereafter, believe unto Him, and life everlasting. Now unto the King Eternal, Immortal, Immoral, Invisible, the only wise God, be glory and honor forever and ever. Amen. Now unto the King Eternal, Immoral, Invisible, the only wise God, be glory and honor forever and ever. Amen. Who else? May glory. It's all of God. Salvation is all to His glory, to His honor, to His praise. It is a glorious gospel. Those who obey not the gospel shall not see life, but the wrath of God. One day all the world is going to wish they received the gospel of Jesus Christ. They're going to wish they turned from their sins. In 1 Peter chapter 4, verses 17 and 18, The time has come that judgment must begin at the house of God. And if it first begin with us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? Certainly a scary thought. May we also take it seriously and see our need to go into all the world and preach the gospel unto every creature. Sinners are in desperate need of the gospel. Paul said, Woe unto me if I preach not the gospel. Now may we have our feet shot with the preparation of the gospel of peace. 1 Thessalonians chapter number 1, verses 7 through 9. It says, Unto you who are troubled, rest with us, when the Lord Jesus Christ shall be revealed from heaven. with his mighty angels and the flaming fire taking vengeance upon them that know not God and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, who shall be punished with an everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his power. The Lord is going to take vengeance upon them, upon all those who obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, who shall be punished with an everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his power. May God have mercy upon lost sinners, and may we have compassion upon them. May we share with them the good news, the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ, which has the power to save them. What greater act of love can we show them than telling them about the Lord Jesus Christ, who is able to save them from their sins. In conclusion, I just want to read 2 Timothy chapter number one. Now, verses 7 down to verse 13. It says, For God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. Be not therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me, of his prisoner, but be thou a partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God, who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given to us in Christ Jesus before the world began, but is now made manifested by the appearing of our Savior, Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death and hath brought life and immortality to life through the gospel, whereunto I am also appointed a preacher, an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles. For the which cause I also suffer these things. Nevertheless, I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and I am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day. Hold fast the form of sound words, and thou hast heard of me in faith and in love which is in Christ Jesus. For wonderful words, what wonderful, amazing God that we have, who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, and is now made manifest by the appearing of our Savior, Jesus Christ, who has abolished death and has brought life and immortality to life in the gospel. And in 2 Thessalonians chapter 2, beginning with verse 13. It says, But we are bound to give thanks always to God for you, brethren, beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the spirit and the belief of the truth. Whereunto he hath called you by our gospel to the attaining of the glory, of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, brethren, stand fast, hold to the traditions which you have been taught, whether by word or epistle. Our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us and given us an everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts and establish you in every good work, word, and work that has been called by his gospel. We have a glorious hope, our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God, even our Father, which loved us and has given us an everlasting consolation and good hope through grace. Comfort your hearts and establish you in every good word, word and work. We have a great reason to have comfort, and it's all because of the gospel of Christ. Mark 1 and verse 15 and saying, when the time is fulfilled, the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent ye and believe the gospel. Are we amazed by the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ? There's no greater news and no greater message. There's no greater joy and no greater hope for a child gone and for a lost. That's all I have this evening. Joy, there's no greater hope for a child of God, and for a loss. That's all I have to say. Good to hear that. Are we live now? Open your Bibles to the book of Genesis chapter 2. Genesis chapter 2. I'm going to read verse 7 and then I'm going to read verses 17 through 25. And I cannot promise you that some of where I was trying to breathe deep will not be coming out just a little bit this evening. In Genesis chapter 2, I'll start in verse 7 and then I'll skip over to verse 17. And the Lord God poured man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul. And then in verse 17, But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil thou shalt not eat of it, for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. And the Lord God said, It is not good that man should be alone. I will make and help me for him. And out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every fowl of the air and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them. And whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. And Adam gave names to all cattle and to the fowl of the air and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found and help meet for him. And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam and he slept. And he took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh instead thereof. And the rib which the Lord God had taken from man made he a woman and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh. She shall be called woman because she was taken out of man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother and shall cleave unto his wife and they shall be one flesh. And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed. Let us look to our Lord once again in a word of prayer. Our most gracious Heavenly Father, we do thank you for your love to us, mercy and grace, and watch care over us. We thank you, our Lord, for this day that you have provided, for allowing us the privilege of coming into the house of the Lord. I thank you for the King's Edition Baptist Church, Brother McCool, and Father, we pray for all the members, and we ask, Lord, that you would just build them up and encourage them to keep on keeping on. And we ask, Father, that you would be with each and every one of us As we go out into this world, that you would help us to stand firm for the things of God. I ask more that you would be with me this evening as I serve it. May you give me liberty and ability to present thy word in truth and in love. I ask, Father, that you forgive us of our sins. May thy will be done in these things we ask in Jesus' name. Amen. Thank you. You may be seated. The emphasis of the message tonight, and if you want to put the title to it, is the importance of the family unit. The importance of the family unit, that is where we will spend the majority of our time. Because let's face it, the family unit is a disaster today. We can blame the government, you can blame this, you can blame that, but it must start with us in our homes. It starts with us and the buck stops here. here. Now, a lot of times I come and I am generally, especially when I come here, I am pretty encouraging and you are thinking, yeah, right. Do you know you? But no, normally, especially when I go to conferences, I try not to get too down and too ugly within the messages, but I'm really, really, really getting sick and tired of sitting back and not preaching and not offending and being worried about offending people. behind our pulpits, we have watched the family fall apart, and pastors have said, okay, we'll just come and I'll preach a little bit, and I'll tell you, you ought to, you know, be strong in the faith. Preach to the people! I'm just done! We sat around, and we've done nothing. We've sat around and we've allowed the government to strip away just about every right that we have. If I were to tell you that three weeks ago my wife was sick with COVID, you all right now will be afraid. Though she has been well for three weeks because I mentioned the word, how could he have shaken my hand tonight? And that's now the world we live in. And yet, I brought a cookie to see you. My daughter made some pumpkin snickerdoodle cookies. And maybe somebody here tonight is on the verge of diabetes. And if you eat that cookie, am I supposed to feel guilty that you ate the cookie? There are so many other sicknesses in the world. Diabetes, cancer, High cholesterol! Why would you stop living all together? I'm sorry. It's just, it's not even... I'm not afraid of you. In case you haven't figured that out. And I'm not telling you to or not to wear a mask or to or not to get vaccinated. Do you even crack corn? And I don't care, just don't tell me I have to know. And people are just shocked and amazed that in the government-controlled public school system that they're making the kids get vaccinated, it's a government system! What do you expect? For years we have not taken the lanes and given them passage. And now we just sit aside and just watch our country fall apart. The people of the Union have been miserable. And the devil wants no part of a godless ornate. The devil is not me. And the devil knows that if he can destroy the family, then churches will separate and folks will stop having an interest in the things of God. And it has had its effect. Now, you all know me long enough to know that I know God is sovereign and in control. He is the King of kings and Lord of lords. You all know me to know me well enough to know that. But I hope you all also know me well enough to know that we have got to get out there and enter that mission field. and do something. I want to help change this. I want to help restore the family unit, not only in my own family, but to others. We pastors have a responsibility to reach out and be there for our own families, but then certainly to be there for the families that our Lord has allowed us to shepherd. The devil is outstanding at filling our calendars, is he not? Fills them with everything. Run here, run there, do this, do that. But how about get into the house of the Lord? That's what we need. I don't know that we as pastors have done a great job in equipping our young people in the area of the family unit. I don't know that our 15-20 minute sermon every six or seven months about marriage and about, you know, one man and one woman for life is quite enough, to be honest. I don't know that we Husbands have done a good enough job modeling Christ in our relationship with our spouse. I don't know that we've done a good enough job modeling Christ to our children. I don't know that we've done a good enough job modeling Christ out in the world. We like to be encouraged. And I like to encourage. But I'm telling you, we have got, you know, People start complaining to me about the public school system. I say, get your kids out. That's it. I didn't used to say that, but that's just as simple as it is. It's almost like, I don't want to hear it. There's another way. Get them out. And don't use a K-12 garbage that's just public school teaching at your house. Kit the curriculums. Put in the work. So we haven't done a great job doing that, but again, the devil He'll tell you, just live with someone before marriage, even though that's not God's way. And then the world will say, what do you mean you're not living with them first? What do you mean you're not going to do this? What do you mean you haven't even held hands? What are you talking about? Who are you? Where do you come from? Listen, the devil is waiting in the area of corruption of family. It's time for us to take it back. It's time that we Christians take it back. We need to connect. God has made us relational beings. Let's be relational. Let's focus on one another. Let's lift, yes, and certainly lift one another up. Because a family unit is so important. So let's start at the homes and then let it just lead from our homes into our churches, communities, our workplaces, and beyond. But it's got to start at home. Sorry about my little rant. I'm not really sorry. It's just it's just been bound up for so long. So let's start again. The first part of our message, let's look at the destruction of the family unit. And then secondly, we will look at how the Lord is to build a house. And thirdly, a family unit needs grace. The destruction of the family unit. So I will say again, if we're going to start doing something for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, I firmly believe that it must begin at home. We must start at home. If we're going to do something impactful for this nation, for our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, It must start at home. It must start with our families, because our families matter. How do you like that? Families matter? Hashtag family. All lives matter? No? Nobody? Okay. You're like a little psycho tonight. We're afraid of you. But our families, they matter. We say that our world needs saving, and it does. It does. But if the world is to be changed from what it is, that change must begin in our home. There must be improvement in our homes before there can be improvement in our world. Now, God is sovereign. God is able to take our broken, messy lives, and he's able to use them in a way that brings honor and glory to him. But, beloved, we have got to just stop resting on that and start doing something and start getting into it, knowing that the family is a disarray, knowing that the family is a mess. Right? all sort of role reversals, you know, going on in the home. I'm so blessed. I'm so, so blessed that my wife has been able to stay at home and, and, and raise our children. And I mean, I get home eventually, but you know, she's there a lot longer than I am during the day and school those children and guide and nurture that home. I'm telling you, I'm a spoiled, spoiled person. I hardly have, If I didn't do anything, she wouldn't ask me to do anything except for build a deck that I have not started to do. I bought this stuff. It's been sitting in my backyard since the beginning of summer, y'all. So if you need something to do, if you want to come be with my family unit for a little bit, we're going to fix pulse holes. Anyway, it's awesome to have her home. And then to be able to go in and support her as she tends to that home. That's normal. And it's good. The modern family, you know, is in trouble. Divorce is rampant. Dissatisfaction between mates is at an all-time high. Parents have lost their way in their They're just watching their children hopelessly. I don't know what to do, Johnny. I don't know. Spank them. Give them the rock. That's what you do. Oh my goodness. Give them the rock. I'm serious. Serious. It's hard for me. I am not, I don't know. Y'all pray for me. This is not my world. There were nearly 2,400 divorces as reported in 2020. Did you hear that number? 2,400 divorces in 2020. A day. A day. Not all year. That equals around 800,000 or 876,000. 876,000 divorces last year. I think you can agree with me. We have not put a lot of emphasis on marriage and what God designs for one man and one woman for life. 876,000. The average marriage lasts about eight years. That's it. What have we done to teach people the importance of the longevity of one man and one woman forever? The modern family has lost its luster in our culture. There was a time, and it really wasn't that long ago, that most families acknowledged God, and most families went to church, and most families acknowledged God's Word and His right to rule in the whole. That day has long since passed. We need to bring our families to the things of God. The modern family is in a mess. And I'm not going to stand up here and pretend to tell you that I know everything that there is to know about parenting. And I'm not up here to tell you that children, after they're grown and gone, are always just going to do everything they've been taught. We all know that is not true, but we have that wonderful scripture that we know of in Proverbs, right? Train up a child in the ways you go, and when he is old, you will not depart from him. That doesn't mean that he will always stay solid to the word, but those teachings that you implanted into them, by God's grace, they are implanted in their minds, and at some place, the Lord will bring that back to their remembrance. But you and I have seen it, homes are being destroyed by drugs and alcohol and affairs. Homes are destroyed by pornography and money. It's past time to just stop ignoring these real problems and preach about them, expose them, and help people through them. If you got issues, you need to let us know. Let us pray with you. Let us give you godly counsel. we can help by God's grace, by pointing you to the Word of God. When families know and honor the unchanging principles of the Word of God in their lives, they can survive, and I would say they can thrive. Families can thrive in this world if they are given the right tools and the right encouragement. And those tools and that encouragement, it's in the Word of God. He hasn't left us to ourselves. Then we also need to be willing to teach about the strengthening of marriages and helping our children to become the men and women God would have them to be. and turning our homes into that small piece of heaven on earth, as it's been called, that sanctuary that they can come to to be encouraged and to be lifted up. And when we do this, we'll have a positive impact on the world around us. Secondly, beloved, it is the Lord that is to build the house. Turn, if you will, to Psalm 127. Psalm 127 and verse, well, I'm just going to read it all. Psalm 127. Except the Lord build a house, they labor in vain that building. Except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain. It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows, for so he giveth his beloved sleep. Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord, and the fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man, so are children of youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them. They shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate. This psalm is all about the family. It's about the importance of the family unit. The importance of children in the family. And then it gets into the most important, I think one of the most important aspects that we have here. It says, except the Lord build the house, they labor and they not build it. The Lord must be the one that build the house. You and I know that a nation is only as strong as the families that make up the nation. And we also know that a church is only as strong as the families that make it up. Now, we know that it is God that gives grace and strength and power within the families and within the families of the church and to the church itself. But when we talk about this, what does it all mean? It means you can't build a marriage and you can't build a family unless the Lord Jesus Christ is your general contractor. And that is that Jesus Christ is the beginning and the foundation of everything that you build your whole life upon. From the marriage to the first baby, if the Lord takes a child or a loved one or a spouse, whatever it is, you must know that it is the Lord that is to build the house. It is Jesus Christ that we are to focus upon. If we're going to teach our children anything, we need to teach them about Jesus Christ and preach to them the glorious gospel, as Travis mentioned earlier today. And that takes some work. Guilty as charged. It's easy to come home from work and not take the time to invest in our families the Word of God. It's just much easier to do nothing. Guilty as charged. It takes work. And I don't have the silver bullet method, if you will, when it comes to the matter of marriage and family. Most of us would like it just to be easy. Most of us would like it just to say, OK, well, I came to King's Edition tonight. Justin was all fired up. But he gave me this surefire great way that I'm going to have an amazing marriage, and amazing children, and an amazing pastor. Woo! It's all done now. No, I don't have that. But God has the answers. And God tells us what to do. Life is rough. And it's tough. Listen, after all, you married a sinner. And guess what? The sinner married me. You got two sinners living together. Things are going to get rough from time to time. But God's Word, He shows us and He tells us, be committed. It takes work. You know, many of us, We go to our jobs and we know in order. And again, I am not trying to minimize marriage to jobs, but I just, as far as work, right? We go to our jobs and we do our job and we do our work and we get paid. If we don't, if we don't go to work and work, they're going to what? They're going to get rid of us. It takes work to stay in the role. Listen, it takes work to stay in a healthy and happy marriage. And we need to be willing to teach our young people that. We need to be willing to tell them that there are times that things are tough. I could tell you so many times that Heather has prayed for me and loved me and encouraged me. And if she could, I'm telling you, she probably would have slapped me upside my head a couple times, but she is more gracious than that. Amen. That's exactly right. Get out of bed! What do you mean? Woe is you, huh? Okay. No, she doesn't ever get that mean. I feel far too often. Oh man. We should stop painting this fairytale picture and tell young people that it is work and not just in the courting stage. Keep pursuing after your spouse and only after your spouse. I've said it before and I'll say it again in this message. A guy's best friend better be his wife. Period. Now he can have some other male friends. He may even have some other female acquaintances. But his best friend better be his wife. And vice versa. Wife's best friend ought to be her husband. Should be her husband. Facebook has been a dangerous thing. Old relationships. Oh, I dated that person back in so and so. It's been a lot, a lot of hurt and heartache coming through homes. It takes a while. Stay committed. Stay in the fight. Learn your spouse. Love your spouse. Support. All right. So this is the Lord that is to build the house. Okay, here we go. How many, you said I got two sermons left? No, just kidding. We're doing fine. I think I'm, I really don't go that long. Traditionally 35, 40 minutes. I don't even know where I'm at now. About 30. I want to take you over there to the book of Genesis. I want to go to Genesis chapter two, and I want to read to you verse 18. Genesis chapter 2 beginning of verse 18 and the Lord God said it is not good that man should be alone I will make and help me for him. Praise God for his wisdom God made us Help me, brethren, for anything. We could go on and we could read all of these verses. They're so beautiful. This verse teaches us that in order to have a good family, you must have a God-oriented foundation. The key phrase in this verse is God says, I will make. Praise God. The first family was formed by God. It was founded by His power and sanctioned by His authority. You have to have an adequate authority for your family unit, and that adequate authority is God. He says, I will make. God said He founded it by His authority. And that's what it takes. That's what we need. Every family is built on some source of authority. There is some basis by which you build your family, by which you make decisions for your family, by which you determine the value system of your family. Listen, either you look to the culture or you're looking to God. May I encourage all of you to look to God. You don't need Dr. Phil or Oprah or The View. You need God. And then we preachers need to be willing to preach the Word of God. That our people and us are saturated with the world's way for far longer than they sit in the house of the Lord. And that's not a dig, that's just reality. That's not a dig. It's just the way it is. So if for nothing else on our two or three times a week, give them the word. Tell them about the Lord Jesus Christ and the authority of the word of God. And let us not look to our culture as we raise our families. Marriage and family is God's idea. OK, it's God's. It's God's idea. It was began with God. It's God's design. So we must learn from God how a family is to operate. We must get God's instruction for the family. And yet you can learn a great deal from books. And I do. You know, Gary Chapman's Five Love Languages. It's a good book. But does it replace the book? I mean, there are helps and seminars and And marriage retreats and conferences, invest in your marriages, go. It's cool. You know, take some time and invest in the marriage. All right. God has given us his word. And in his word are the principles and precepts and promises which can be followed to help us have a fantastic, thriving family in the Lord Jesus Christ. That source of authority is Almighty God. It needs to be the Lord Jesus Christ thirdly and finally. A family unit needs grace. A family unit needs grace. I want to start off in Genesis 2 again if you're still there in verse 25, and I want to show you something here. Maybe a little awkward at first as we talk about grace in our families. In Genesis 2.25, the word of the Lord says, and they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed. Why do we start there? Well, because wouldn't it be great if there was a verse 26 in this chapter that read like this, and they lived happily ever after, without ever having a conflict or trouble? Well, you and I know better than that. And there isn't a 2.26, is there? So then I have another question. After Genesis 2, what comes next? Well, obviously Genesis 3. So chapter 2 closes with them being naked and unashamed. And then in Genesis 3.10, listen, and he said, I heard thy voice in the garden and was afraid because I was naked and I hid myself. In Genesis chapter 3, we have the record of the first family and the entrance of sin into the world, their family. and into the human race. They didn't notice it in chapter 2 verse 25. But conflict came. The serpent beguiled and then Adam ate of that fruit. You know it. And conflict came. Discord came. And then all of a sudden they realize we are not the same. That's what he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid. Adam hadn't been afraid of God up to that point. They had close communion and fellowship. But conflict came. Does that mean that's it? The family's over and it's done? We'll never get through it if there's a conflict, if there's a challenge, if there's a trial, if there's a difficulty in life, that's it, we won't do it? No, because you're about to see that God gave grace. He bestowed grace. He made that covering for Adam and Eve. He covered them. That animal's blood was shed and those coats of skin covered them. That teaches me a lot about grace. In Genesis 3, verse 21, let's read that. Unto Adam and to his wife, to the Lord God, make coats of skin and clothes them. That beautiful picture of grace. God covered their nakedness. God covered Adam and Eve. So again, we are all sinners. We are all selfish, but God's grace is sufficient to cover all our sin. God's word says, for by grace are you saved through faith, and that not of yourselves. It is a gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship and all that So we need to have some grace in our families. A family where grace is understood makes all the difference in the world. Because when you begin to understand a little bit about grace, then you can begin to understand a little bit about forgiveness. Because grace gives us what we don't deserve. It really does. Grace gives us what we don't deserve. And the difference that grace makes in the family unit. So again, the importance of the family unit is to show and teach about the love of the Lord Jesus Christ, to model that in everything that we do as parents, as husbands, as wives, as children in the family. The world, again, we need to make an impact. We need to have an impact on the world, but it needs to start at home. I thank you all for your attention to the word of God. We'll turn the services over to the pastor.
