You're living in a dream world if you don't think that Satan is alive and well. You may not know it, but probably one of the biggest enclaves of occultists is near Mount Horeb, Wisconsin. There is a huge reserve of over 200 acres there called Circle Sanctuary. It's owned by a lady whose birth name was Mary Sue Bissett. She changed her name to Selina Fox and they gather there on all the occult days and do their occult practices and moved in all around that area are occultists from all over the United States of America. If you were listening to any of the WikiLeaks stuff, Leon Podesta had correspondence with going to an occult dinner there in Washington, D.C., and that was exposed in relationship to the cult is alive and very well in Washington, D.C. And a lot of what is called spirituality in the magazines you read today is simply occult spirituality, New Age spirituality, which is nothing more than old age paganism, old age occult. And we see that that's influenced many evangelical churches and some Baptist churches, where Baptist churches are now bringing in yoga, bringing in contemplative prayer, and all the occult ramifications that go with those type of things. You see, there's two sources for wisdom, and that's why I'm taking a little extra time on doing this, is so that you won't be deceived by any of these things. Last week, we looked at the God-approved sources of wisdom. If you want wisdom, the number one place is to come to the Lord in prayer. James chapter 1 verse 5 says if any man like wisdom let a mask of God Who give it to all men liberally and upbraideth not? Take it to the Lord in prayer Ask him to close doors ask him to open doors ask him to make his will obvious And the second source of wisdom that we saw last week is getting into God's word, Bible study. Psalm 19 verse seven says, the testimonies of the Lord are sure making wise the simple. See the Bible tells us what's right, what's not right, how to get right, how to stay right. We can keep ourselves away from a lot of trouble by using this Bible as the square and the level for our life. If it doesn't line up with the word of God, we shouldn't do it. And then finally, a wise counsel from godly people. It says men of understanding attain unto wise counsel in Proverbs chapter 1 and verse 5. You get wise counsel from people who are, you know, very studied in the area. So, for instance, if you want to know how to repair something, how to fix something in your house, I go talk to Brian. I wouldn't go to the Bible because it doesn't tell you how to build a house except to have it on a firm foundation, but you can get a wise counsel from godly people in relationship to that, and particularly when it comes to spiritual counsel, get spiritual counsel not from Uncle Fred who doesn't go to church and doesn't believe in God, but get spiritual counsel from your pastor, get spiritual counsel from somebody who's a dedicated Christian person of like, precious faith, And then God will use that and does use that many times. We looked at that last week. Now, today, we're going to look at the wisdom from beneath. We're going to look at demonic wisdom, if you will. And if you have your Bibles, turn with me to Deuteronomy chapter 18. Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and then Deuteronomy. Deuteronomy chapter 18 verse 9 through 13 Here's what happens Israel God gives the promised land into Israel, but he says I want you to know that you shouldn't involve yourself in their pagan practices and It says in Deuteronomy 18 verse 9 it says and when thou come into the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee Thou shalt not learn to do after the abomination of those nations There shall not be found among you Anyone that maketh the son or his daughter to pass through the fire that's human sacrifice nor uses divination nor observer of the times Nor an enchanter nor a witch nor a charmer nor a consulter with familiar spirits or a wizard and necromancer For all that do these things are an abomination to the Lord and because of these abominations the Lord thy God Doth drive them out before thee thou shalt be perfect with the Lord thy God and There are three sources of demonic wisdom and I see increasingly of those sources being accessed today. I'm going to use the old term first and the new term now. The first one is divination or if you would, fortune-telling. And so divination, the old name, but the new name in fortune-telling is the act of attempting to prophesy, that's forecast the future, or human character, to discover human character through occult means. It says, by making use of certain omens or divination tools, such as tarot cards, tea leaves, Ouija boards, astrology, palm trees, scrying, that's looking into crystal balls or mirrors or crystals, using crystals today. You see a lot of people wearing crystals, they don't realize the significance of the New Age crystal and all that kind of stuff that goes on there. And the method of divination often changes. Divination was used by the King of Babylon. We'll look at it a little bit later. We've shared it with you before, where they cut open an animal and it says they looked into a liver. Divination often include the sacrifice of an animal to look at its innards and learn things from that. But the method of divination changes, but the force behind divination is the same. What is the force? behind divination. That's why I don't want people, if you have a Ouija board, you ought to burn it. You ought to get rid of it. It's a divination tool, a divination device. Don't read the horoscopes. Don't let anybody read your palm. You say, oh, that's just fun. Well, no, sometimes it's fake, but a lot of times it works. And if you have your Bibles, turn with me to Acts chapter 16 and verse 16. In the book of Acts, it tells you a little bit about this. And here we have the Apostle Paul preaching, and it says in Acts chapter 16 verse 16, we read this, it says, and it came to pass, As they went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with the spirit of divination." It's interesting to look up that word, spirit of divination. It's the snake spirit, the python, the spirit of python. It's very interesting there. Met us, and watch this now, which brought her masters much gain from soothsaying." She was telling fortunes. It was working. You'll see that it's demonic, all right? The same followed Paul and us, cried saying, these men are the servants of the most high God, which show unto us the way of salvation. The last thing you want is a demon possessed girl saying, hey, these guys are telling the truth, but I'll tell you what, Satan knows that what is being preached in the gospel is telling the truth. Satan fears and trembles. It says, and this did she many days, but now look at what happened. It says, but Paul, being grieved, turned and said unto, said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ, come out of her. And that same, and he came out the same hour. Now watch this. Here's what happened. When the demon left, she lost her occult powers. Watch this. And when her masters saw that the hope of their gain was gone, they caught Paul and Silas and drew them into the marketplace and unto the rulers. And you know, they were beaten and thrown in jail. So I want you to understand that while a lot of people can make fun of this, make light of this, fortune-telling, when it works, is empowered by the devil. It is demonic. It's called divination. And though the methods often change, you know, you can see the things going on. Go to Mayfair Mall and now they've got a psychic there as you come out of Mayfair Mall so that people can go visit the psychic and for a while it's calmed down. I know people who have called the psychic hotlines to try and find things and you're opening yourself up to the devil when you're dabbling in fortune-telling, when you're dabbling in divination. I've known some that, and remember the devil's a liar, but I've known some who have given me their Ouija boards because they really did work. It's a divination device, friends. It's where they ask these questions. They try and make it a game, but best thing you can do is break it and burn it because you do not want the power of the devil revealing anything to you. Then there's sorcery and magic. What does that mean? Sorcery, the old name, magic, the new name. And when I say magic, I'm not talking about what I do with my grandkids making a quarter appear from behind their ears. That's sleight of hand. That isn't occult magic. We're talking about occult magic here. And that's the act of attempting to contact and manipulate or control people Animals, spirits, plants, elements. How many of you remember the little troll dolls? They've come back, but did you know that trolls are earth spirits? There's earth spirits, air spirits, fire spirits, water spirit, gnomes, undines, salamanders. I'm not talking about the little salamanders or fire spirits. But the thing of it is, is they have occult rituals and ceremonies. That's why a lot of people, you know, a lot of people wear the Italian horn. You know, that's calling up the sex spirit. That's what the Italian horn is. I mean, I worked with this stuff for more than 20 years. And in relationship to that, they wear amulets or talisman. I was going to get into the vault. I have a candle. People light candles for various spells. I have a candle that I bought at an occult bookstore one time when I was going around training policemen and medical professionals. But it was a candle you lit for lesbian love. Then they had a candle lit for sexual immorality. They had a candle. They have talismans you wear around your neck for protections of earthquakes. And they got all these things. They have these little amulets and talismans that people wear. And this is sorcery and magic. Through magic, many work the power behind the magic, and that power behind the magic, again, is the occult. Turn with me to Acts chapter 13, or look at your notes. In Acts chapter 13, verse eight through 10, it talks to us about not being involved in magic, not being involved in sorcery. He says, but Elamus the sorcerer, so is his name by interpretation, withstood me seeking to turn the deputy from the faith. Demons don't want people to get saved. Okay? But Saul also, who is also called Paul, filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him and said, look at the characterization of this sorcerer here, this magician. Oh, full of all subtlety and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord? We should not seek to know the future by fortune-telling, horoscopes, by magic. We shouldn't manipulate by wearing talismans and having lucky charms. And I'm not talking about putting cereal in your pocket. But anyway, the last one is spiritism or necromancy. That's trying to contact the dead or trying to contact the spirits in the spirit world. And occult activity grounded in the belief that certain persons acting as mediums or channelers, psychics, channelers, can contact the dead or the spirit world and get hidden information from those that they have contacted. A lot of times these people go into trances, or in the American Indian world they beat themselves into an altered state of consciousness. Today, when you get involved in the Hinduism, you chant your mantra over and over and over until you go into an altered state of consciousness, open up your mind to demonic influences there. But the power behind this activity is demonic. In 1 Chronicles chapter 10, and in verse 13 it says, so Saul died, for the transgression which he committed against the Lord, even against the word of the Lord, which he kept not, and also asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit to inquire of it." You know what he did? He went to the witch of Endor. The proper name would be the necromancer of Endor. Because what did she try to do? She was trying to, and it scared her to death because it really worked, but it wasn't of the occult, it was of the Lord. The prophet Samuel came and scared everybody. And so, I'm just telling you, we should not delve in these things. I'm telling you, if you read your horoscope, quit reading your horoscope. I believe I'm going to eat Chinese today and when I break open the fortune cookie, you know what I'm going to do? I'm just going to wad up the little thing and eat the fortune cookie. But you know, but I'm in all seriousness a woman who used to go to this church and She ended up with some troubles and she didn't want to follow guidelines of biblical counseling so she goes over at that time to a psychic on 27th Street and She says oh, I don't feel like I should be here. I'm a Christian and lady says oh, well, there's a Bible right out there on the table and then she goes into this psychic and goes back several times for psychic readings and all this kind of things and Then she wonders how come she's having horrible dreams and problems In her life there because she opened herself up to the occult the occult is real and if you've done those things Confess of this sin get it under the blood of Jesus Christ and stop and Prayer, the study of God's Word, wise counsel from godly people, you can use those things. but not these other things. The wise men of Babylon worked on the basis of wisdom from beneath, wisdom from the devil, wisdom that God commands. And in Daniel chapter two in verse two, it says, then the king commanded to call all the magicians and the astrologers and the sorcerers and the Chaldeans for to show the king his dream. So they came and stood before the king. You know what? They couldn't do it. I want you to know that Satan's a notable liar and his demons are notable liars. If you look at the magician there, they use charts. and magical designs to do their divination as well as cutting open animals. Astrologers, they studied the stars and then cast spells and gave incantations. If you look at Isaiah chapter 8 and verse 29, the same word is used and it's translated, wizards that peep and mutter. wizards that peep and mutter and It's it's very interesting One time Psychologist asked me to come in they were having trouble with this young lady and I Go back in and I'm praying for God's protection the whole time and her eyes roll back in her head And you know what's happening. She starts peeping and muttering. You know what the problem was the woman was demon-possessed The woman was demon-possessed Then a growly voice started coming out from her and all those type of things. And I can tell you, having experience, this stuff is real. And you shouldn't be involved with it. And you need to be very careful because so many young people I mean, the big deal now, the big deal now is the superheroes. You know the superheroes? I don't know, Captain America and Spider-Man and Thor and all that kind of stuff. If you've ever looked at some of those comic books, they're just filled with the occult. They're just filled with the occult. I am I'm telling you there's a comic book called Hellblazer The young man started reading Hellblazer and he started there was a Latin curse in there and he started trying to contact Demons will be whatever you want them to be friends and it in it ends up that he has a and we'll talk about in a minute. He has a demonic dream and where this character comes before him and starts telling him to do really bizarre things, unbiblical things, tragic things. And so there's all ways that you can get into the occult and Ephesians chapter five and verse 11 makes it clear. It says, have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. I have never allowed my kids, I never watched them myself, but the demonic horror movies are gonna start coming on around Halloween time. You know what I'm talking about, the horror movies. Some people just can't get enough of those things. But so many of them are filled with the occult. occult symbolism and witchcraft and Satanism and satanic, all that kind of stuff. And I can tell you with the genuine occult, drugs are so often accomplished because the word sorcery in our King James version of the Bible is a translation of the Greek word pharmakia, which is where we get our word pharmacy, drugs. So many times in the occult world, drugs are involved in that. You know, the Babylonian wise men could not reveal the king their dreams through demonic means. That is because these dreams were given to King Nebuchadnezzar by the Lord God, and they could only be revealed by God through his man, Daniel, who used biblical wisdom and not demonic wisdom. You know, just the way of application, we should have nothing to do with wisdom that descends not from above. If you're dabbling in that area, confess it as sin and forsake it, because it belongs to the devil's realm. Seances, and tarot cards, and psychics, and palm reading, and Ouija boards, and magic cards, and Dungeons and Dragons, occult video games. There are so many occult video games that are out there today. I've lost track of them all. And you need to watch and play through the video games or watch your children as they play through the video games that you allow them to play and not just give them carte blanche to do that, because you'd be surprised what's involved in some of those video games today. And you know that all the young people who are mass murderers in schools and things, you know, they were heavily involved in occultic video games. You can study it for yourself. It is true. They were all involved in occultic or Killing video games that just killed people and you got points for killing I Want to cover this too. I'm going to talk about dreams and visions Since we're going to be looking about dreams and visions when we come to the book of Daniel I'm trying to lay that all this foundation for you. I do want you to turn with me to Job chapter 4 verse 12 through 17 and Dreams, regardless of the source, sometimes dreams can be very frightening. If you, besides me, have ever had a frightening dream, let me see. Yeah, some of you have. Okay. Regardless of their origin, dreams sometimes can be very frightening, and we know so from Job chapter 4, verse 12 through 17. Job chapter 4 says, Now a thing was secretly brought to me in mine ear, received a little thereof, in thoughts from the vision of the night. He had a night dream, a night vision. It says, When deep sleep falleth on men. Look at this. He tells about his frightening dream. Fear came upon me and trembling, which all made my bones shake. Then a spirit passed by my face, the hair of my flesh stood up. How many of you ever heard the phrase the hair standing up on end right from there biblical phrase it stood still But I could not discern the form thereof and the image was before mine eyes There was silence and I heard a voice saying shall mortal man Shall mortal man be more just than God shall man be more pure than his maker now not all dreams are frightening a lot of dreams are just stupid and A lot of dreams are just bizarre. I had a weird one while I was at my 50th class reunion. And I was dreaming, Sue, that a redhead came into the Alpha Women's Center and was trying to convince Sue and Holly to encourage the girls to have abortions. Where did that come from? They wouldn't do it in the first place. They encouraged him not to. And I got right up in his face and said, I'm on the board of directors here, and I'm going to see that you get kicked out of here, and we're going to pull our support. And I mean, it was real vivid. And I woke up, and I was sweating. I'm going, you idiot. What in the world? I got myself up, I got a drink, I woke myself up. Because you know what the problem is? Sometimes I go back to sleep and start dreaming the same dumb thing. All right? You say, well, what's the source of that? Is that demonic? Well, I'll tell you in just a minute. And the answer is no. But I have a recurring dream. I have a recurring dream that I can't find my locker. And I get there, I finally find it, I'm going to be late for class, and the professor closes the door and doesn't let you in if you're late for class, but then I can't remember my combination. Now, you know, I don't know, about every six months I dream that stupid dream. What does it mean? Nothing! But let's move on. Dreams can be from God. We know that from what we see in Daniel chapter 2. It says, But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, making them known to King Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Thy dream and thy visions of thy head upon thy bed are these. It should be noted that there are very few dreams recorded in the New Testament. Very few, most of them are in the Old Testament. You have the dream of Pilate's wife, where she goes and talks to her husband and says, don't have anything to do with this just man. That's one of the dreams that are recorded there in Matthew chapter 27. Joseph, Jesus' not real father, stepfather, I put it there. received a direction from God in four dreams, and in at least three, which the angel appeared unto him and gave him a message in Matthew 1.20-2.23. The wise men had a dream, said, don't go back the same way. Paul had several dreams in Acts 16.18-27. In Revelation 1.10, John receives the revelation while he's in the Spirit. Well, he's in the spirit. Now, I'm going to talk to you a little bit about that when we come to the end. I don't put any stock in dreams today, and I'll tell you why in a minute. I'll tell you why in just a minute. So there are dreams that are from God. Secondly, the Bible tells us that dreams are most often the product of a human mind. You don't remember them all, but we dream each night, they say. That's what the studies say. But we don't oftentimes remember the dreams. I remember them more than I want. And in fact, don't spend time... I mean, there's one time I went back to sleep because I wanted the dream to finish. But it didn't. But here's what Ecclesiastes says. Ecclesiastes 5 verse 3 says, for a dream cometh through the multitude of business. I know what happens to my wife. My wife is crunching numbers to try and get him to the Alpha Women's Center after the ride for life. She's working on crunching them late. I'm not wanting her to do that because you know what she's going to be doing? She crunches numbers all night through her dreams and she wakes up in the morning exhausted. Isn't that right? Yeah, and what is the source of that dream? Well, it just tells you, for a dream cometh through the multitude of business. You get real busy and you carry on in your dreams. There's another thing to consider as well. Dreams often occur when we are intensely occupying our minds with something, a little bit different than the number crunching, but in Isaiah 29 verse 8 it says, It shall even be as an hungry man dreameth, and behold, he eateth, but he awaketh and his soul is empty, or as when a thirsty man dreameth, and behold, he drinketh, but he awake, and behold, he is faint, and his soul hath appetite. You know, I do want to tell you that the side effects from some medications cause you to dream bizarre things. I'm thankful that my wife trusts me. When she had major surgery, she called me and she's quite frightened. And I came to the bedroom and she says, they're cutting my bed in half with a chainsaw. Now, she was heavily medicated, but that was a reaction in her mind to the medication she was on. And I said, honey, no, I'm standing right here. There's no chainsaw. I'm here. And she took me at the word. Then we come to the last situation before I conclude. The Bible clearly shows that fallen angels or demons are actively trying to blind the minds of unbelievers. Second Corinthians 4.4 says, the God of this world hath blinded the minds of them that believe not. And oftentimes he implants, now the devil can only be one place at one time, but he's got lots of evil helpers. And so they try and implant thoughts in our mind and dreams. And believers, Satan's out to try and he walketh about seeking whom he may devour. It's important to note that the devil, as I said, can only be in one place and one time. However, his demonic hordes are at his bidding. Demons do have access to the minds of the unsaved, particularly when the unsaved person begins a dabbling in the occult, begins opening up his mind to it. And I told you the story of the young man who dreamed a dream. And I'm talking about Racine. I'm talking about while I've been here. And the first dream said, give your brother and sister a hard time. And he'd been involved in reading occult stuff. And so he started harassing his younger brother and sister. Then, the next dream he had says, tear up your Bible, because the family was a church-going family. So you know what he did? He tore up his Bible. The next dream that he had said, go and buy four steak knives and put the name of your dad and your mom and your brother and your sister on the four steak knives. Fortunately, the mom was cleaning the room, Went to tuck the new sheets on his bed, and she found the steak knives with the names of her and her husband and the brother and the sister on there. And I got a call and said, will you go talk to him? He's in the psychiatric ward in Racine. He had opened up his mind to the occult. And he was listening to these demonic dreams. I've dealt with families where they've discovered suicide packs and homicide packs with young people who become involved in the occult through innocent things, seemingly innocent, they're not innocent at all, seemingly innocent things like Dungeons and Dragons, and where they start trying to communicate with comic books. Occult comic books, which are proliferated. They focus on those things. They start trying to delve into the occult world. And one young man in Sun Prairie took his life, and I got called into the situation. And before they were done, they found over a dozen people who were involved in this, and they had a suicide pact. So if one of them committed suicide, they would all commit suicide. Bible says all that hate me love death and death is one of the clear things that Satan ultimately gets people thinking about when they get involved in the occult They say well, yeah, but Christians can't oh, yeah You know Ephesians chapter 4 and verse 27 says neither give place to the devil and If you yield the devil a beachhead, if you start dabbling in the occult, if you start, listen. It's closed now, so I can tell the true story. I got a call from Northland Baptist Bible College asking me to see a young man. And a young man was caught cutting himself and drinking his own blood at Northland Baptist Bible College. And they said, would you see this young man? And I said, yes, I will see him. So his parents drove him down for a number of weeks. And I started talking with this young man. And this young man, and the school's still open, so I'm not going to give the name of the school, but he'd gone to a Christian school. But he had found a friend in the Christian school, and they got heavily involved in Dungeons and Dragons. It's not as popular as it once was, but they've moved into the video games. But you know, I've got a whole library that's under lock and key, where many of the characters in the Dungeons and Dragons and things are related right to the occult. different nations and different occult practices, but he had gotten involved in that. And he had gotten involved in vampirism where he and his buddy were cutting each other and drinking each other's blood. And he went away to Bible college and it happened to be that one of his roommates caught him doing that and turned him in. And for a number of weeks I counseled with the young man and I just want to tell you the young man says he was a born-again believer, but he had given place to the devil He had given place to the devil It's kind of like being in war I could go on and on and on with that Of the different stories of the things that I've dealt with and tried to help people with over the years But I am telling you the occult Demonism and Satanism is very real in our day and in our time. I God wants us to be separated from those type of behaviors. And I am alarmed at how many people have let their children read Harry Potter books. I am alarmed at how many people have let their kids and read them their self Stephen King books. I am alarmed at how many people Read things that are dissaturated with the occult and you can call me whatever you want to but I the CS Lewis stuff It's filled full of the occult It's candy-coated You want to read something to make your skin crawl and I don't want you to but I've read it the screw tape letters Talks about demon possession friends and the reality of it So my point is that we need to be very cautious to close off any connection from practicing the occult or reading about the occult in relationship to that. I do have one final comment. Upon the completion of the New Testament, God seldom, and I would emphasize the word seldom, if ever, would use dreams and visions to reveal his plan for mankind. I'm not saying God couldn't, but it's seldom, because if it was additional revelation to the scripture, then you'd find yourself in the place of the charismatics. who are believing a whole lot of things that don't line up with the scripture, and if it doesn't line up with the scriptures, then it's not of God. I don't care who does it. Yet psychics and shamans and others rely on dreams and visions for their revelation. While it is true that God formerly spoke to his prophets using dreams and visions, flip with me to Hebrews chapter one, verse one and two. Hebrews chapter 1 verse 1 and 2 says, God who in sundry times and in diverse manners spake in time past unto the fathers by his prophets, hath in these last days spoken unto us by his son, it says, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds. We have recorded for us the words of the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ, whom in these last days have spoken to us by his son. You know where the words of his son are? Right here in the New Testament. Today, God speaks to us principally through the Bible and the impression of the Holy Spirit upon our minds. Never put any stock or act upon any dream or vision without thoroughly scrutinizing it in light of the scripture. Study the word of God, not your dreams. The normal means that God uses to direct Christians today is not dreams and visions. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. If God decided to depart from his norm, you can be sure that nothing in a dream or a vision would contradict the Bible. Finally, I will tell you one dream that I had that was true. It's an exception. It's the only exception in all of my life. Lynn and I were in Haiti. Far away from family. Sarah wasn't born. We had baby Steve and baby Carla. And I dreamed a pretty vivid dream one night that my grandmother Brown died. So I thought, well, if I can't get back to go to the funeral anyway, so my mom and dad will write to me and let me know if that's true. Well, after we got done with our short-term service and we got off the plane and connected back with our family, my dad said, oh, by the way, your grandma Brown died. Well, there's nothing unbiblical or anything about that. But what I'm saying to you out of all my life I'm still looking for that locker. And I have dreams that have people past, present, and future from them. And I don't put any stock in those, because the only dream that I've had in all my life that turned out to be anything was that my grandma Brown died. I wouldn't spend a whole lot of time. There's a lot of people who go to psychologists and psychiatrists to get their dreams interpreted. Don't waste your money. I mean, give me your money. Come in and I'll tell you what they mean. Nothing! I'll take the 50. It would be a far exception from the rule, and it certainly wouldn't It certainly wouldn't conflict with anything that we read in the scripture. But dreaming, for the most part, is just from our busy minds. And have you ever had something that pulls something from here and there and every place? I mean, you go. And I told my wife a couple, probably a month or so ago, I said, I don't know where all this stuff got put together. It had people that have passed on.
