Before we have our scripture reading this morning, Brother Dia has asked that I give a brief report on the quarterly meeting that we just had last Wednesday so that the rest of the congregation could be informed, because I know and we know that not everybody gets a chance to be able to go to the Wednesday evening quarterly meeting. So the issue of giving that Pastor just prayed about has been something really very much on our minds. And we have been congregation blessed in many ways. Those of you that have been around for some time can remember having prayed through building out the beautiful courtyard and garden area that we have out there when it didn't seem that the congregation was big enough or had enough income to be able to support such a thing. And just a couple of years ago, we put a new roof on this building. It's a very big project that, again, we couldn't imagine that we wouldn't be in debt for a very long time for undertaking such a large project. So I'm to report to you today that all of these projects are fully paid for. The church is fully in the black. We have cash in the bank. Never, from the point of view of the budget committee, quite enough to feel comfortable. But the Lord, I don't think, wants us to feel comfortable. He wants us to rely on him. But we do have a quick report that I want to let you know about. In the interior of your bulletin weekly, we report the figures as accurately as we have them at that time. in two fundamental columns, one that says needed to date and the other one that says provided. And as you can see, the bigger budget being the general fund, we are very close between the needed to date and provided. And some of the other areas we have a little bit of catching up to do as we get to the end of the year. But we have realized an unusual expense coming into the end of the year to complete a computer project. So the actual need that we will have, that will seem to be short, is around $15,000 between now and year-end. So the request of the Budget Committee and of our pastoral staff is that, A, we pray. That we pray about God providing the funds necessary to bring us all the way in line to the end of the year. and that if the Lord provided you with a blessing that you could not expect, that perhaps this could be an area that you might pray about and find a way to be able to help along with this shortfall. The shortfall was caused because of yet another blessing, and that is that we have expanded the ministry of this church by hiring some wonderfully competent and marvelously blessed people that have been a real blessing for all of us. And as a function of that expanded ministry, we have an expanded need for technology and computers that we've recently purchased. They've all been fully paid for, borrowing against our reserve. So I wanted to let you know about that. And this is as much as you usually ever hear from the pulpit about these things. But we'll try to keep you appraised of these things, because we do think it's important that God's people understand where the needs are and get this articulated to you from time to time. So pray about it. And let's see if we can get through this year, the conclusion of this year, and have all of these bills fully paid for within our budget for 2009. So anyway, I thank you for your indulgence through that. And if you have any questions, as always, about any of these issues, Our books are always open. You're welcome to talk to Patrick Gia, me, the pastor, Dr. Kelly about these things, and we're happy to let you know what we know as these things come about. Thank you very much. Now, on to scripture reading for today. If you will turn in your Bibles, please, to the Book of Matthew, the Gospel of Matthew. We'll be reading responsibly in chapter 24, beginning in verse 37. We'll begin in verse 37 and conclude at the end of the chapter in verse 51. If you have a Bible with you, if you take that out, or the one in the Q rack just in front of you, turn to the Gospel of Matthew, chapter 24, please. Look for verse 37, and once you find that, let's stand together as we read God's word. Matthew 24, verses 37-51. But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of Man be. Or as in the days that were before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark. And knew not until the flood came and took them all away, so shall also the coming of the Son of Man be. Then shall two be in the field, the one shall be taken and the other left. Two women shall be grinding at the mill, the one shall be taken and the other left. Watch therefore, for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. But know this, that if the good man of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. Therefore be ye also ready, for in such an hour as ye think not, the Son of Man cometh. who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his Lord hath made ruler over his household to give them meat in due season. Blessed is that servant whom his Lord, when he cometh, shall find so doing. Verily I say unto you, that he shall make him ruler over all his goods. But any of that evil servant shall say in his heart, my Lord, delayeth his coming. and shall begin to smite his fellow servants, and to eat and drink with the drunken. The Lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of. Verse 51 together, please. Subject of our union with Jesus Christ, our living union with Jesus Christ, We have a living, vital connection, a joint life with Christ that is affected or takes place or is effective the moment we receive him. And by this living, vital relationship with Jesus Christ, his life imparts to us all that he is and all that he has done and all that he does. Well, quite a while on that good text in 1 Corinthians, as in Adam all die. Even so, in Christ shall all be made alive. Turn there one more time because I want to punch that button a couple more times in your heart and in your mind. 1 Corinthians 15 and verse number 22. 1 Corinthians 15 and verse number 22. Again, we have this preposition, in, in Adam, in Christ. Notice those two statements, as in Adam, even so, also in Christ. In Adam, in Christ, as in Adam all die, in Christ all will be made alive. And this, of course, again, is tied to the beginning of this chapter. This is the great triumph of the gospel of Jesus Christ. no longer terrorizes the believer. Death can do nothing to separate us from God. Death does the opposite of separating us from God. If we're a believing child of God, death brings us into the presence of God. Death is no longer our enemy. Death is our servant. Death serves us. It brings us into the delightful, glorious, wonderful presence of the living God. Now, that's the truth of the gospel. I don't just escape hell. I get to go see God. And Adam, all die in Christ. All will be made alive. I think that most of us can identify with Adam. I don't think we have much difficulty in knowing that it is a historical, biological fact that you and I have a living relationship with Adam. Though he is dead, the blood that flows in our veins has life that was transferred to us through many generations directly from Adam. All of us have within us that same life, Adam's life. No matter where you were born, It doesn't matter the color of your skin, the color of your eyes, the color of your hair. It doesn't matter whether you're male or female. None of this makes any difference. Every last one of us has within our blood, our veins, flowing life that was transferred to us directly from and existed literally and biologically in Adam. The life has never died. Now, our parents died, but the life is still living in us, and we pass it to our children. So I think that most of us have no trouble identifying with the fact that we got our life from Adam, huh? We have a living, biological, genetic connection to Adam. Correct? And how many of you feel like you were a child of Adam? I don't feel like it. Am anyway. Wish I wasn't. But I am anyway. Now, notice in Christ. See, we can identify quite easily that we're in Adam. And that shows up, as we said last Sunday, the moment we're born. They make it go astray from the womb, the psalmist wrote. They're speaking lies as soon as they're born. They don't tell lies in language that they haven't learned yet. They do it in baby language. They lie. They lie about They lie and say, I'm hurting, pick me up. They're not hurting, they just want to be picked up. They're lying. They want you to think that there's something wrong with them. There's nothing wrong with them. And if you're the sucker that bites on that one, you're in for a hard time as a mother. Now, so we can identify, I think, quite readily the fact that we're an atom. We are offspring from atoms. But this idea of the fact that we are in Christ, that is hardening. That to us becomes a symbolic, theoretic kind of thing. But dear people, living in me today, and if you're a believing child of God, living in you today literally is the person of Jesus Christ. Just as literally you have his life as you have Adam's life. Just as literally as you have a connection to Adam, you have a connection with Jesus Christ. One is just as true as the other. You say I don't feel like it, it doesn't matter what you feel like.
