Well, boys and girls, I want to tell you today the second part of the Mary Jones story. So you come to the front. I hope that you're going to be at church tonight for the prize night. And maybe some of you will be standing up here in the pulpit, just like Mary is in the picture. Can you see the picture there? She's in church. And you see there's a Sunday school has started in their church. And then there's a special Sunday school Children's Day and Mary is taking part in the Children's Day. And there she is and she's only a wee girl so she needs to stand up on something. Can anybody see what she's standing on? Yeah? A box, yes, she's standing on a wooden box because her wee legs aren't long enough to let her see over the pulpit. So tonight we've got a box in the pulpit and some of you might be standing on the box too. But here's Mary and she's standing up and she's reading the Bible. And she's so excited because She's reading from the minister's Bible. Remember the big black Bible we talked about last Sunday? And she's so excited, and her wee face is beaming, because she just loves the Bible, and she loves to read from the Bible. Next slide, please. Well, they go home from church that Sunday, and that night, Mary just longs that she had her own Bible. Remember, what did we tell you last week? She doesn't have a Bible. Her daddy doesn't have a Bible. Her mommy doesn't have a Bible. They don't have any Bibles in their house. And there's Mary. She's taking her candle to her bedroom because they don't have any electricity. Electricity hadn't been invented. And there's the candle, and she's taking the candle upstairs, and she just looks back at her mom and her dad, and she just says, I must have a Bible. I really want my own Bible. But Bibles were very expensive. And there's the mum and the dad, and they're looking up, and they're sad, they've got a big sad face, because they know, Mary, we can't afford a Bible, because they're so expensive, we don't have enough money. Mary didn't say anything. But her heart was set. Someday, she was going to have her own Bible. Now, Mary didn't have a Bible like this one that I'm holding, or like that one over there. It was going to be a Welsh Bible that she would have someday. Can anybody speak Welsh? No, I don't think so. But I think there's some people today who speak Welsh, some people from Wales, and they can speak Welsh, but I can't speak Welsh. I can just about speak English. But Mary, she was gonna get a Welsh Bible, and my, she looked forward to that day. Next slide, please, Robert. And she said, here she is, she's talking to God at night before she goes to sleep, and she says, Lord, Even if it takes 10 years, and I have to save all my money for 10 years, even if it takes that length of time, Lord, I am going to have a Bible. Next slide. Well, she would have to save up for the Bible, and she'd have to get all the pennies and put them in her money box. Has anybody got a money box at home? Yeah, that's very good, and you put your coins and your money into it, don't you? And you save hard. Well, Mary, she had a wee money box, and she worked hard. Here she is with a broom, and she's sweeping up the yard, and she's bringing in the sticks for the fire. And whenever she got the chores done at her own house, She would go to other people's houses, and she'd go to other farms, and she'd help them to feed the animals, and she worked really, really hard, and she'd go around making deliveries to people, and other chores, and they would give her money for the work that she did. And day by day, she would get the money, and she'd come back home, and she'd put the money into her money box. Next slide. She would go to farms, there's the animals, the cows, and she'd work hard. You know, there was one day she was out and she was doing the chores, and she found a purse. A purse. When have you ever found money? Sometimes I walk, I'm walking along, and I look down, and there's money. Somebody dropped money. Well, Mary found a purse one day, and she kept it all to herself. Do you think that's what she did? No, no. You see, remember Mary was a Christian? And you know the Bible says, be honest. Be honest. Even whenever nobody else is watching you, whenever nobody else is looking at you, be honest. Because God's looking at you. And so Mary found this person, she said, I have to take this to the person who owns it, to the person that this belongs to. I can't keep this myself. I know I need money for the Bible, but it would be wrong if I kept this money. God wouldn't be pleased. God would be sad. So she took it back to the person who had dropped the purse. And you know what they did? They took some money out of the purse and they gave it to Mary. In fact, they gave her quite a lot of money. And she was so excited and so happy. You see, boys and girls, the Bible says, them that honor me, I will honor. That's what God promises. Them that honor me, I will honor. Mary honored God and God honored her by giving her some of the money from the purse. And where do you think she put the money? In the money box, you've got it, yeah. She put the money in the money box. And the money was starting to build up. Next slide, please. Okay, so there's, look, the money box. And Mary's putting the money from the purse. Oh, look, it's shiny, lovely, shiny money. And she puts the money into the money box. Mary did a lot of things to earn money. Do you know she even kept bees? Has anybody got bees at home? No, I didn't think so. Have you? Bees, real bees, have you? It wasn't about your garden. We have some in our garden sometimes. In fact, we had a bee in our house at the start of the week. Do you remember that, Susanna and Jacob, the bumblebee? Well, anyway, Mary, she didn't have, it wasn't bumblebees, but these were honeybees. She kept the honeybees, and they would, of course, make honey. And then she would sell the honey. And Mary was doing everything to have enough money to buy a Bible. Uh-oh, but there came a day when something sad happened. Her daddy became ill, and he was very sick, and he couldn't go out to work. So guess what Mary had to do? Mary had to do the extra work around home. And that meant that she couldn't go and do other people's chores and get money for the Bible, and Mary I'm sure she thought to herself, am I ever going to have enough money for a Bible? Well, you make sure you come back next Sunday, and we'll find out whether she did get a Bible.
