So much. How do you choose what all to share that you're thankful for if you are? There's too much. Number one on the list is what? eternal salvation when the Lord forgave us our sins. Amen. But we're not going to spend time there this morning, in the next few minutes. There are a lot of things. One of those, if we're not careful, we overlook. And that is the Word of God. The Word of God is pure. It is true. It's righteous altogether. And there's so much that we could say about the Word of God. Why? Where do we start? Well, it's all through the scripture. from, as Uncle Charlie Ashcraft used to say, it's from kiver to kiver. I guess that means cover to cover, I don't know what does. But what an amazing thing the word of God is. Could you bear with me for just a moment as we do a very brief Biblical survey. So what, Brother Tom, you're going to take the rest of the time to do that? Well, most of it. Let's find out how many young people we have. Kids, not as many as I'd like at this moment. But by the time I finish, you know, at 1230, we should have more in here. But no. Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy. What are those books called? Several things. They're called the Book of Moses, the Book of the Law, called the Pentateuch, meaning five, and they give us the law, the commandments, gives instruction, judgments, very excellent way to start the scripture that is that the Lord gives us. Then we go on to what? Anybody know what comes after? Several other books. We begin to cover what is called history, right? Anybody agree with that? Well, who are they? Well, from Joshua all the way through Esther. How many of you, I should be asking you to answer that instead of me just asking. Let you answer that. It's history. It's an account of how Israel, for all their efforts, just didn't get it right. Why? Well, because they rebelled. Because man is created with a free will, and he chooses ultimately to exert that will and go against the Lord. But then we have, after those, what do we have? What are the next books? How many of them are there after the history books in the Old Testament? I'm not listening. Well, maybe I am listening, but I'm not hearing. What? How many? I see a couple of people holding five fingers up. I can't do that. Five, and what are they called? What are they called, those five books, from Job all the way through Song of Solomon? What are they? They are the, I'm listening, no, poetic books. They're poetry. Now then after he does that, and oh man, what a wonderful place to park ourselves from time to time, is in the poetic books. The emotion, the pain, the agony, the trust in a God who does not fail. And then after them are the what? Whole bunch of books, right? What are called the major and the minor prophets. What are they? the prophetic books, and they go from what? Isaiah all the way through Malachi. That's right. Well, and then after them, we get into what's called the New Testament, which is the new covenant, right? The old covenant or the one before was the covenant God made with Israel. And then in the New Testament, it's the covenant that God made with his church. And there we find the very first books. How many of them are there? Four or five? Four or five. There are five history books, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts, and They're called the history books. Then after those are what? Oh, by the way, of course, there's no discounting the history books, the Matthew, Mark, Luke and John and Acts that tell us the story of how Jesus came and what he did and his sacrifice and then his establishing of his house of witness, the church. And after that, what do we come to after that? We can divide this into several categories, can't we? The first ones are what's called the church epistles. Aren't there? From Romans all the way through what? Second Thessalonians. Those are the church epistles. Very important because they show us the doctrines of the church and how we ought to grow, how we come into the measure, the stature of the fullness of Christ. And then after those we find what kind of epistles? There are how many? Four? Anybody? Four epistles. The what? The pastoral epistles. And then after the pastoral epistles, which, of course, give specific instruction concerning the ministry and more. But then we have what are called the letters or epistles. What are they called? How about the Hebrew epistles from Hebrews all the way through what? Third John, Jude. And then we have one book left. It is the unveiling, the apocalypse, the unveiling of Jesus Christ, where we see him high and lifted up as he brings to an end all of history. What a marvelous thing this book is, what it gives us. What am I thankful for today? Well, a lot, but I am very thankful for God's word. It is the lamp under my feet. It's a light under my path. Why, David said, thy word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against thee. Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto, according to that word. God's word is so significant. It is so necessary for a Christian as he walks, as he lives. It is so, so, so invaluable. God's Word, how much have you thanked God? How much do you thank God for His Word, which is pure, which is righteous, which is holy, which is inviolable? God, who cannot lie, gave us instruction whereby we could live. What an amazing thing God's Word is. So valuable because it does so much for us. God's word, if I can get my glasses on. Maybe I can't remember, so I have to use these every now and then. It informs us, it teaches us, it corrects our misconceptions, it commands us, it encourages us, it inspires us. It gives us hope. a confident expectation in future good. Oh, Paul said to the Philippians as he was praising and as he was thanking the Lord for them, he said, let's turn there. Philippians chapter one, Philippians chapter one. We're going to end, by the way, in Psalm 19. One of my favorite Psalms. But over here in, where did I say we were going? Philippians. Yeah, I knew where I was going. Thanks for helping. If I can, there we go. Getting close. Philippians chapter one, starting in verse one, going all the way to verse six. in Philippians chapter one. Boy, I had fun with this the last few days as I was in the hospital. I did do something while I was here, but I sure enjoyed it. Second Peter chapter two, oh my, there's so much God's word gives us, if we'll but listen to it, as if we'll read it, if we meditate on it. What did Job say? I have, what? of God's word. I have esteemed the words of thy mouth more than my necessary portion." Do you believe that God's word is more important than the physical food you eat? What did Peter say? He said, as newborn babes desire what? The sincere or the unadulterated word of God that you may grow thereby. How are you growing if you're not in God's word? And those of us, most of us, you know, we're a blessed church. We get the word constantly. Praise the Lord for that. There are a lot of churches where you don't hardly ever get the word. And then when you get it said, then you get a misinterpretation of what it means and how it applies. We've been so blessed. Philippians, if I can find, Oh, I know where it's at. Thank you, though. You're welcome. Okay, here we go. Philippians chapter 1. Paul and Timothy, or Timotheus, the servants of Jesus Christ, all the saints in Christ, which are at Philippi with the bishops and deacons. By the way, he didn't write this to a home church. When I say a home church, I'm talking about one of those where people get together, they're Christians. I like Miss Martha, a young lady, I say young lady, she's about this tall that lives where I live. She's a precious lady, yet she was telling me about their home church. But you know what? They gather those people together without any authority, without any sponsorship by another church. They just, hey, we want to have church and we don't like where we're at, so we'll just have a home church and meet. But you know what? The Apostle Paul says the elders and the bishops within the church, you know, in Goodness, in Acts 14, 23, Paul says that we ordained elders in every church. When they established churches, they went under authority from the church of Antioch. First Corinthians 11, two and three, they were entrusted, the church at Corinth, entrusted with the word of God. That's so important. Praise the Lord that we have a church that was established under proper means and methods with God's word. I'm glad, I'm thankful that we're a church that loves the word of God. Well, I didn't get very far there, did I? So I'm gonna jump all the way down and look at verse six. Here he tells us something very important. being confident of this very thing, that he which has begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ." Think about that for a minute. The word confident there is also used where Paul says, I am persuaded to believe. confident he was persuaded by the Lord that what the Lord has started, what did he start in us? A good work. Would love to park there. But it says he will continue to perform it. That word for perform means to take it to its end. Until when? The day of Jesus Christ. Shall we sing that song? Steve Green, I think, did a recording of that. But the concept that God is going to perform that work he started in us until that day appointed. Praise the Lord. One of these days, we'll get a new body. That work is going to be, the Lord will have said this. He will have wiped his hands, said, We done. Well, he doesn't speak, you know, and in my English, but what amazing thing, the word of God, God's promise. You see, that's one of those big, significant things about the word of God is his promises are true. They never fail. The Lord's word accomplishes that for which he what sent hit. What a marvelous thing. Are we meditating on God's word? Are we reading God's word continually? I think as a church we are, but you know there's some of us that have been negligent. Well, even I find myself at times frustrated that I have been negligent to meditate upon his word as ought to. Well, I'm not gonna go further there. Acts 19, not Acts 19, Psalm. 19, one of my favorite Psalms. Oh, you know, Psalm 19 and Psalm 119, you know, the longest Psalm The longest chapter in the whole Bible is all about what? The word of God. The wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way. The thy word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against thee. The request, he said, open thou mine eyes that I may behold what? wonders things out of thy law." Oh my, if we love his word, and we should, it's the most valuable thing that we have down here on this earth is what he's left us between these two covers. Psalm 19 The heavens declare the glory of God, the firmament showeth his handiwork, day into day utter his speech, and night into night showeth knowledge. There is no speech nor language where their voice cannot be heard or is not heard. Their line is gone out through all the earth, and the word is to the end of the world. And them hath he set the tabernacle for the sun." I tell you, he says, the whole creation God gave here in order that my voice might be heard. But he doesn't end there, does he? What does he say after that? He said, His goings, excuse me, verse seven, the law of the Lord is perfect. How many of you are in your mind already singing that chorus? Let me see your hand. There you go. Come on, there's more. The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul. The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart. The commandment of the Lord is pure. enlightening the eyes. The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever. The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. What are they to be desired as? Well, more than gold, yea, than much fine gold, sweeter also than the honey and the honeycomb. Moreover, by them is thy servant warned, and in keeping of them is great reward. Let's jump down to verse 14. Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer. What am I thankful for today? I'm especially thankful for God's precious, holy word. What a marvelous thing we have in it. And if we're avoiding it, if we're too busy for it, then we're just too busy for life. May it never be so. Let's stand. Amen. Jonathan, would you lead us in a word of prayer?
