waiting and waiting and waiting. You order something, you wait for weeks because it's coming from China and it's got to get on a boat and all of that stuff. But David said, I waited patiently. for the Lord, and he inclined to me and heard my cry." Now, David is not just sitting in the palace waiting. David, as you're going to see here, and as we covered in Psalm chapter 39, David was kind of in a mess because of what he had done and the way his life was going at the time. And so to wait patiently for the Lord, we're always, God, you need to do something right now. God, you need to fix my problem right now. God, you need to fix my health right now. But we need to wait patiently. Now listen, it doesn't mean that God's timing is not what it should be, but it's not what it's expected to be many times. But David said, he waited patiently for the Lord, and he inclined unto me and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock and established my goings. So David said, God brought him up out of a horrible pit. Now, there are many pits in life. You never hear somebody say, oh, that's the pits. And usually that's because we're mildly disappointed. But listen, when you're in a pit, it's far greater than that. When you're in a pit, a deep, dark, low spot in your life. And that's what we're gonna look at today. Because David said, he brought me up also out of an horrible pit. Now, a pit in the Bible can be many things. So we're gonna look at a handful of scriptures on this today. So just keep a marker here in Psalm chapter 40, but turn to the book before Psalms to Job, Job chapter 6. I'm gonna get some parameters around what a pit is in the Bible and what it might be applying to in David's life and what it can apply to in our own lives. Job chapter 6 and look at verse 27. Job says here, yea, ye overwhelm the fatherless and ye dig a pit for your friend. Because remember Job, Job was in a low point in his life and his friends coming, he's hoping to get comfort from his friends and they just, they just heap it on him. And he said, you dig a pit for your friend, you're making it even worse. It was a low point in Job's life. Look at Proverbs right after the book of Psalms and chapter 22. Proverbs chapter 22. Now once we kind of define what a pit is in the Bible, we'll get back in Psalm chapter 40, but Proverbs chapter 22, and look at verse 14. Proverbs 22 and verse 14. He says, So a pit can be temptation. A snare. You know, when you dig a pit, you see in some of these survivalist books that that's a way to catch game, is to dig a pit, you know, and maybe put sharp sticks in there or something. But that pit can be something that tempts them to come into there, and it can ensnare them. Look at Proverbs chapter 28. And that's what it's referring to here in the Proverbs. Proverbs chapter 28, like some temptation in verse 10, Proverbs 28, 10. It says, whoso causeth the righteous to go astray in an evil way. So they tempted them, and they turned away in an evil way. It says, whoso causeth the righteous to go astray in an evil way, he shall fall himself into his own pit, but the upright shall have good things in possession. And so that temptation there. Turn back to Psalms, but go to chapter seven, please. Psalm chapter seven. Psalm chapter 7. And look at verse 15. Psalm chapter 7 and verse 15. David says here, he made a pit and digged it and has fallen into the ditch which he made. So he fell into the pit. Look at 9.15. Chapter 9 and verse 15. He says, the heathen are sunk down in the pit that they made. net which they hid is their own foot taken." So, they were snared in their own devices. And that's what's happening in David's life. When you look at Psalm chapter 39, go ahead and turn back that way if you would. Psalm chapter 39. David says down here, oh, look at verse...oh, Look at verse 8, David says, deliver me from all my transgressions. Make me not the reproach of the foolish. I was dumb, I opened not my mouth, because thou didst it. He said, remove thy stroke away from me. Because of David's sin and his iniquity, and you can see it in verse 38 as well, David had fallen into a pit in his life. But that's not how, even though we can apply that today, you know, as far as we fall into the pit of sin, the Bible talks about the pit of destruction. It talks about the pit of corruption. But I want to show you a different pit, and this is probably the most important one that we can apply out of Psalm chapter 40. Turn back to the book of Job, right before Psalms, and look at Job chapter 17 this time. Job 17. The Bible refers to a different kind of pit. all face at some point in our life. Job chapter 17 and look at verse, look at verse 15 he says, "'And where is now my hope? As for my hope, who shall see it? They shall go down to the bars of the pit when our rest together is in the dust.'" So, whatever Job is referring to here when he says our rest together in the dust it has something to do with death. And look at Psalm chapter 55. Psalm chapter 55. chapter 55 and verse 23 He says, But thou, O God, shall bring them down into the pit of destruction. Bloody and deceitful men shall not live out half their days, but I will trust in Thee. The pit He's talking to here, and we'll look at it a little bit more, is talking about hell. Hell is referred to as a pit. It's called the bottomless pit. It says to the sides of the pit. We'll look at some of those verses. Look at Isaiah chapter 14. You got Psalms, then go Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon, and Isaiah in chapter 14. Isaiah chapter 14 is all talking about Satan, or Lucifer rather, when he fell and became Satan and how he'll fall again and be cast down to hell. Isaiah chapter 14, and look at verse 12. They say unto him, they say, how art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning? How art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations? For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven. I will exalt my throne above the stars of God. I will also sit upon the mount of the congregation in the sides of the north. I will ascend above the height of the clouds. I will be like the Most High. Yet, verse 15, thou shalt be brought down to what? To hell, to the sides of the pit. And so hell is called and likened unto a pit. He says, they that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee and consider thee, saying, is this the man that made the earth to tremble and that did shake the kingdoms? Look at Ezekiel chapter 26. Keep going to your right from Isaiah and go Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel. in chapter 26. Ezekiel chapter 26. Now David said back there in Psalm chapter 40, it said, he brought me up also out of a horrible pit. Now that doesn't mean that David was ever in hell, but his life was in risk of that. Just like every life of every human that's ever born on the face of the earth, at some point in their life is in risk of hell. risk of the pit. You say, oh, I don't believe that. How is that possible? Unless they die as a baby before they reach an accountable age, they're in risk of hell. You say, why? For all of sin to come short of the glory of God. You say, a God of love would cast me into hell? If you reject His offer of salvation, He absolutely will. But there is an escape from that pit. Ezekiel chapter 26, look down at verse 20. It says, "'When I shall bring thee down with them that descend into the pit, with the people of old time, and shall set thee in the low parts of the earth, in the places desolate of old, with them that go down to the pit, that thou thou be not inhabited, and I shall set glory in the land of the living.'" Look at a couple more places. Turn to the book of Revelation, the last book of the Bible in chapter 9. Revelation chapter 9. Revelation 9 and look at verse 1. It says, And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth. And to him was given the key of the bottomless pit. And he opened the bottomless pit, and there arose a smoke out of the pit as the smoke of a great furnace. And the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit. Now listen, I don't want to, I'm not saying this to scare you, but to warn you. We've given the example that if your house was on fire and you didn't know it, wouldn't you be glad when somebody knocked on your door and said, hey, your house is on fire. You need to get out. You need to escape. Man, I'd be thankful for that. You say, oh, but you're going to wake up my kids. You're going to scare them, tell them the house is on fire. Yeah, so that they can be saved, so they can get out of that. And that's exactly the purpose today. Listen, this is not scare tactics in the Bible. It's God warning us because of His great love toward us. Look at Revelation chapter 20. Revelation chapter 20. Revelation chapter 20 and verse 1 he says, And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit, and a great chain in his hand. And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the devil and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, and cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years should be fulfilled. And after that, he must be loosed a little season. Now back at Psalm chapter 40, Psalm chapter 40. Now where I work, and Dan works, and others have worked in this, there's a mine, and it's called an open pit mining. There's underground mining and there's open pit mining are the two main ones. Now that pit is very dangerous if you're up on the top. And they tell you to stay back at least six feet away. They have all kinds of regulations. You have to have a berm that goes up to the midway of the axle of the tallest vehicle that travels the roads. You say, why? To keep people from falling into that pit. Now listen, if a worldly organization like MSHA, the Mining Safety and Health Administration, if they know to take precautions to keep people from going into the pit, how much more should we take from a spiritual pit? When God gives us the warnings and God tells us, now in spite of all the precautions they take, there are people that die every year falling into pits, the mine pits. They back over the berm, they go too far, they get too close to the edge, and nobody warns them. Now listen, when you get up close to a pit, sometimes you'll see the ground cracking. That's why you don't get too close, because it's about ready to give way. How many of you know what a cornice is? A cornice? Okay, so if you have a mountain here, and the wind is blowing over the edge of this mountain, and it's steep down here, and it blows, and it causes a snowbank that kind of comes out like this over the edge, that's called a cornice. You don't want to walk on those. I've seen so many videos where actually they have people at some ski areas that go along and they'll dynamite those things and cause an avalanche. You say, why? Unless somebody is walking on there or down below and get caught in that thing. A pit, it can be very dangerous. And it's similar. You get too close to the edge. And you walk near the edge, you're at risk of falling in. You say, well, I'm not at risk. I'm not walking near the edge of hell or the pit of hell. You know what David said? He says, there is but a step between me and death. Just a step between me and death. Now listen, if that was hell that you were going to go off into, and you're going to be eternally damned, wouldn't you want somebody to warn you? Wouldn't you want to know how to escape out of that pit? Any one of us could die today. You say, oh, but I'm young. I'm in good health. That does not matter. The Bible said, he taketh away their breath, they die. You quit breathing for five minutes. Your brain goes without oxygen, I think, for four minutes, and you can become clinically brain dead, unless it's an extreme situation where the metabolism slows down. And so you want to be cautious and understand what the dangers are of the pit. And David says here in verse 2, he brought me up also out of a horrible pit. And that's what hell is. Out of the miry clay and set my feet upon a rock and established my goings. Look at Psalm chapter 18. Psalm chapter 18. Now listen God doesn't just warn us and say that that there is a horrible pit called hell, and that if we don't accept Jesus Christ, we're gonna die. God provides the way for us. God provides that escape. That's why David said, he brought me up also out of that horrible pit. Psalm chapter 18 and look at verse 17. Psalm 18 and verse 17. He said, He delivered me from my strong enemy and from them which hated me they were too strong for me. Listen, you can't keep, you aren't strong enough to keep yourself from going into hell. You aren't good enough to keep yourself from going into hell. Listen, I'm not trying to, I'm not trying to put down anybody's life or Discourage that but listen the Bible says not by works of righteousness which we have done It is by grace through faith and that not of works lest any man should boast No, man can keep themselves out of hell. Look at Psalm 142 Psalm 142 God is the only one that can bring us up out of that through his son Jesus Christ Psalm 42 And look at verse six, or 142, Psalm 142 in verse six. He said, attend unto my cry, for I am brought very low. Deliver me, brought me up from my persecutors, for they are stronger than I. Now look at Psalm 86. Psalm 86, just back a little bit there. Psalm 86 in verse 13, and here it is. He says, for the great is thy mercy toward me, and thou hast delivered my soul from the lowest hell. So when David said he brought me up also out of an horrible pit, Psalm 86 is a prayer of David as well. And he says, for thou hast delivered my soul from the lowest hell. Now listen. God doesn't take pleasure in casting people into hell. God isn't up there just waiting for people to die so that he can cast them off into hell. That's not it at all. God provided the solution. God provided the way out for us. He's willing to bring us up out of that pit. He's willing to deliver your soul from the lowest hell. But if you ignore what God has provided, then that's your destination. That's why in Hebrews it said, how shall we escape if we neglect so great salvation? Not if we reject it, but simply just neglect it, just putting it off. Back at Psalm chapter 40, Psalm chapter 40. He says here, he brought me up also out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay and set my feet upon a rock and established my goings. Now listen, he can save you, he can bring you up out of that horrible pit, out of the miry clay. This life, it will bog you down if you don't understand what miry clay is. When it feels like that you're just spinning your wheels. I remember back in 1990, must have been 94, A bunch of us, Tom, and Kent, and Ron Potts, and Cassie, and John Nottingham, and there's a couple other guys. We all drove down to Boaz, Alabama. And it rained down there. And that clay down there, that muddy clay, it was miry clay. You say what? You walk and it would stick to your shoes and it'd add about half an inch every step you take. And it was just, it was slick, it was miry, and if you were to get in a vehicle in that and you just gun it, you're just gonna spin your wheels. It was just miry clay and it would bog you down. Yeah, there's movement going on, but I'm not going anywhere. That's what it feels like sometimes. And God can deliver you from that miry clay. You ever feel like, you ever wonder, where am I going in my life? What's going on in my life? I'm just spinning my wheels, nothing's happening. That's the miry clay of life. Look at Psalm chapter 69. Psalm chapter 69. Psalm chapter 69 in verse one, he says, save me, O God, for the waters are coming unto my soul. I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing. I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me. Now listen, this isn't something where it's like, oh yeah, I'll just be sure to avoid that. This isn't necessarily something you avoid. Because typically my experience with deep mire is you don't realize it until you're too far into it. And then you're like, oh no. I remember hunting, and this was years ago. I think it was before Ray and Sue built their house, that house that they lived in up there, you know, way up Blacktail. But there's a little bog down there off that side of the road, and I didn't even know where I was. And I was in an old Scout that I bought from Kurt Green, and I was driving along, and it was grassy, and it looked okay. And I'm like, okay, and there's tire tracks going into it. Didn't look if there were tire tracks coming out, but I was driving along, and all of a sudden, and it was all over, and I was stuck. And that was sunk in deep mire. And usually in life, you don't understand it. You don't realize it until it's too late. And you look back and you're like, how did I get here? How did my life become such a mire and out of the mirey clay and all of that? And you can't move forward. You can't move back. You're just stuck in that life. That's where David felt like he was in his life. He brought me up also out of a horrible pit, out of the mirey clay. And this life will mire you down, it'll bog you down, you'll be spinning your wheels. And listen, God is the only one that can get you up out of that and deliver you from the miry clay. Look at Psalm chapter, well, Psalm 69, look at verse 14. Psalm 69, verse 14. He says, deliver me out of the mire. This is David again. Deliver me out of the mire. Now, was David in physical mud? No, he wasn't. He's talking about the situations in his life where he said, deliver me out of the mire and let me not sink. Let me be delivered from them that hate me and out of the deep waters. Look down further in that verse 15. He says, let not the water flood overflow me, neither let the deep swallow me up and let not the pit, there it is again, shut her mouth upon me." David was pleading for God because of the situations in his life. Now in Psalm chapter 40, I believe it was David's sins was the mire that he was in, and David knew he was risking that horrible pit where he was going to go. And you'll see, there's a famous one down in Los Angeles where you can find all kinds of carcasses. How many know what it's called? La Brea La Brea tar pits and Animals come into those things and they're stuck and they never got out many of them They're stuck in there and listen, you can get stuck in life and you can't move forward You can't move back and you'll wind up dying in that situation Stuck in the deep mire and that's what David was trying to get out of Out of that deep mire to be delivered from that and this life will bog you down, but you through Jesus Christ He can deliver us out of that. Look at Psalm chapter 40 again back at Psalm chapter 40. So this is where David is when he says, I waited patiently for the Lord. He inclined unto me and heard my cry. Verse 2, he brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a what? A rock, and established my goings. Now physically, yes, you want to get to solid ground. You want to get on something that's going to hold you up. But for us, spiritually, the Bible says, and that rock was Christ. And for me, in my life, He delivered me out of a horrible pit and out of the miry clay. You say, what? Through Christ. And he set my feet upon Jesus Christ and established my goings. Now listen, I didn't think at the time when I was 16 years old, I hadn't lived much of a life by then, but I knew well enough. I was in the miry clay and I was headed for a horrible pit. And he brought me up also out of that horrible pit. out of the miry clay and set my feet upon a rock. And unfortunately, many times, it's not until we're in that situation that we turn to God. But listen, He can keep you from that. You don't have to be in the miry clay or in the horrible pit, but if you're there today, you say, yeah, I'm in a horrible pit, I'm in the miry clay, and I don't know what I'm gonna do. You can turn to Jesus Christ. He'll set your feet upon the rock, and not only that, He'll establish your goings. And He'll save you, He'll forgive you of your sins, and set your feet upon that rock. Look at Psalm chapter 27. Psalm chapter 27. You know, those animals that go down into the La Brea Tar Pits, they probably didn't know what was happening until it was too late. And sometimes we get so far into sin and we don't understand the risks until we're like, I'm trapped and I can't get out. But listen, those animals, there was no one there to save them. No other animal's gonna throw them a rope and pull them out. But there's Jesus Christ, that he has come to seek and to save that which was lost. Psalm chapter 27, and look at verse 5. It says, for in the time of what? Trouble. For in the time of trouble, he shall hide me in his pavilion, in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me. He shall set me up upon a rock. Deuteronomy 32 for it says he is the rock his work is perfect for all his ways of our judgment a God of truth and without iniquity just and right is he that rock represents Jesus Christ look at Psalm chapter 61 Psalm 61 And verse one, he says, hear my cry, oh God, attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth, while I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the rock that is higher than I. You gotta get up out of that pit and onto solid ground, and that's Jesus Christ. Turn to Matthew chapter seven. Matthew chapter seven. Matthew seven, and look at verse 23. He says, and then while I profess unto them, I never knew you. Depart from me, you that work iniquity. So this is some people that stand before God someday and said, Lord, we did all these things in your name. And he said, listen, I never knew you. Verse 24, he said, therefore, whosoever heareth these sayings of mine and doeth them. Christ is giving a parable here to teach them. Whosoever heareth these sayings of mine and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man which built his house upon a what? A rock. And the rain descended, and the floods came, and winds blew and beat upon that house, and it fell not, for it was founded upon a rock. You say, hear these sayings of mine, and doeth them. You say, what? Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. For Christ came to seek and to save that which was lost. In John 3, 16, for God so loved the world, this is Christ saying this, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. If you're willing to hear those sayings and do them, you say, do what? Put your faith and trust in Jesus Christ. Just simply say, Lord, I understand that salvation's not a good works, but God, it's through Christ and Him alone I want to put my faith and trust in Jesus Christ. It's that easy. That brings you up out of the horrible pit. It'll bring you up out of the mire of clay. It'll set your feet upon a rock, and He can establish your goings. Keep reading there in Matthew chapter 7. Verse 26, it says, And everyone that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man which built his house upon the sand. And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it. There was no one there to save him. And so you can set your feet upon a rock. Back at Psalm chapter 40. Psalm chapter 40. He said, He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. And then after that, verse 3, it says, And He hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God. Many shall see it in fear, and shall trust in the Lord. He hath put a new song in my mouth. Look at Revelation chapter 5. Revelation chapter 5. Because when you get saved, when you put your faith and trust in Jesus Christ, he'll give you something different to sing about. That doesn't mean you say, oh, you don't have songs, or you don't have anything to sing about, even unsaved. No, he'll give you something new to sing about. And listen, I can't describe it to you and help you to understand it unless you've experienced it yourself. Revelation chapter five, and look at verse nine. Revelation five, nine. says, There behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which, excuse me, 5-9. He says, And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof. For thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood, out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation. and has made us unto our God kings and priests, and we shall reign on earth." You know, in heaven, there's people that are singing a new song. You say, why? Because they were good enough to get to heaven? No. Because of what they did here on the earth? No. Because they put their faith and trust in Jesus Christ, and He redeemed them by His blood. that is a new song that He gave them to sing, something about the Lord. And He hath put a new song in my heart, He said in verse 3, in my mouth, even praise unto our God. Many shall see it, and shall fear, and shall trust in the Lord." Back at Psalm chapter 40. Then he says, verse four, blessed is the man that maketh the Lord his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies. Blessed is the man that maketh the Lord his trust. Look at chapter 34, Psalm chapter 34. Psalm chapter 34, and look at verse eight. Psalm 34 and verse eight, it says, oh, taste and see that the Lord is good. Blessed is the man that trusteth in him. It's just like the old example of, you know, you could pick any food and people say, what's it taste like? If you've never tasted it, how am I going to tell you what it tastes like? You could say it's sweet or it's salty or, you know, whatever, you know, it tastes like it is. They always use the example of a banana. What's a banana taste like? It tastes like a banana. You can't say it tastes like chicken. That's not true. It tastes like a banana, but listen. There's, I don't know of any other fruit that tastes like a banana. Maybe there's other things out there, but I don't know. Now, you say, what's it like to be saved? You're going to have to experience it for yourself. Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good. I can tell you when I got saved at 16 years old, God changed my life. Now, not all at once. They're little by little, but listen, I got saved the moment I put my faith and trust in Him. That's why the Bible says, for whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. I had forgiveness of sins the second I trusted in Jesus Christ. Listen, I wasn't in a church. I wasn't near a church. You say, what were you? I wasn't anything. I was just a sinner. willing to put my faith and trust in the Savior. And He saved me. He forgave me of my sins the moment I trusted in Him. And the Bible says if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature. Old things are passed away. Behold, all things are become new. And so he said, blessed is the man whose trust is in the Lord. He said, Psalm 40 and verse 4, blessed is that man that maketh the Lord his trust. So I'm going to ask you, have you made the Lord your trust? I'm not asking you, oh, do you believe in God? That doesn't matter. You say, what? The Bible says the devils believe also and tremble. You know Satan believes in God every demon and every devil believes in God they believe in Jesus Christ They know he is the Savior. They know he's the Messiah. They know that he died on the cross for the sins of all humanity But they're not trusting in him so you can have the knowledge of who Jesus Christ is You can understand that he died on the cross for your sins But if you don't taste and see that the Lord is good if you never put your trust in the Lord yourself Your destination's gonna be that horrible pit someday. Now listen, I don't like that. God doesn't like that, and that's why he provided salvation free, that we don't have to pay for it, we don't have to earn it. All we have to do is receive it. It's that simple, just receiving Jesus Christ. Look at Psalm chapter 84. Psalm 84. Psalm 84, and look down at verse 12. He said, O Lord of hosts, blessed, like we read in Psalm chapter 40, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee. Blessed is the man that trusteth in thee. Now listen, you can ignore everything I'm saying, you can just think about something else, but someday this is gonna come back to you. The Bible says, so then every one of us shall give an account of himself to God. And if you don't trust Jesus Christ, and you stand before God someday, and you say, but God, I didn't know. He said, how about back there, June 1st, 2025, when you were in that little church in Dillon, and the gospel was being preached, and you heard how Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins, and you did nothing about it. God gave you the opportunity, probably multiple opportunities through the course of your life. And if we neglect that salvation, you will not escape that horrible pit. Look at Jeremiah chapter 17. You're in Psalms, then go Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon, Isaiah, Jeremiah, and chapter 17. Jeremiah chapter 17. Blessed is the man that maketh the Lord his trust. Jeremiah 17. look at verse 7. He says again, and whose hope the Lord is. You know, we sing the song, my hope is in the Lord, who gave himself for me. We sing it today on the song sheet. That doesn't mean I'm hoping God saves me, I'm hoping God lets me into heaven. No, he is my hope, because I put my trust in what Christ did on the cross for me, that God already accepted. Now back at Psalm chapter 40, Psalm chapter 40, and we'll finish up here. So he says in verse four again, blessed is that man that maketh the Lord his trust. and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies. Many, O Lord my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to usward. They cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee. If I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered. Now sometimes we get the idea that God is way out there in heaven somewhere, millions of miles away, and that here we are on earth and God has no idea what's going on in my life, but God knows exactly what's going on in your life. Even King David. Questioned and said Lord what is man that thou art mindful of him and the son of man that thou visit us him Because God's thoughts are to us word you really you realize that God's thoughts are consumed With his creation and how puny we are in God's eyes and how insignificant we are in his in his sight But yet God thinks upon us and not just the whole globe not just humanity as one that God thinks upon you as an individual concerned about you as an individual and your soul and where you will spend eternity. Look at verse 5 again. He said, Many, O Lord, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us work. You know, God even told Israel in Jeremiah 29. He said, I know the thoughts that I think towards you, thoughts of peace and not of evil to give you an expected end. Now he was speaking to Israel there, but God did the same thing to us. His thoughts were toward us. And so that's why God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. You don't have to wonder about where you're going to spend to eternity. going to spend eternity, because God has done something to give you an expected end. I know where I'm going to spend eternity. Not because I'm a pastor, not because I'm anything at all, but because of Jesus Christ. Because God, His thoughts were toward me, and He provided a way of salvation for me and for the whole world, that when I put my faith and trust in Him, I can have that expected end. The Bible says, Paul said, I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I've committed unto him against that day. Listen, you don't have to join a church. You don't have to get baptized. And I've said this over and over again. You don't have to do anything but receive what Jesus Christ already did for you. And that's just by faith, saying, Lord, I want what he's talking about. I want to put my faith and trust in Jesus Christ. Now, back at Psalm chapter 40, And look at verse 17. David says here, but I am poor and needy, yet the Lord thinketh upon me. David said, I don't have anything to offer to God. Why would he want me? Why would he want any of us? He said, I am poor and needy, yet the Lord thinketh upon me, and thou art my help and my deliverer. Make no tarry, O my God. So I'll ask you one more time. Have you made the Lord your trust? Is he your deliverer? Has he pulled you up out of the horrible pit and out of the miry clay? If he hasn't, if you've never put your faith and trust in Christ, you can do it today, it is so easy. Jesus Christ said, I am the door, by me if any man enter in. Getting saved is as easy as opening the door. He told the woman in John chapter four, he said, take of the water of life freely. It just simply is taking a drink of water. Salvation is so easy that many, many people miss it. It is not complicated. Don't overthink it. Just put your faith and trust in Jesus Christ. He'll pull you out of that horrible pit, out of that miry clay, and He'll set your feet upon a rock, and He'll give you purpose in your life. He'll establish your goings. Let's pray. Lord, thank You for this great psalm that You inspired David to write. And God, thank You how it shows us what wonderful works You've done for us. Lord, in sending Your Son, Jesus Christ, to come and live the perfect life in our place, and that we put our faith and trust in what He did for us, we can have forgiveness of sins, we can have a home in heaven, we can have security through faith in Jesus Christ. Lord, help everyone in here today to understand what God did for them. Help them not to neglect it, not to put it off, not to disdain it or make fun of it. Help them to understand that they have sinned against the Lord and that they need a Savior. And Lord, that you provide salvation free for the asking, that they would not have to go to that horrible pit, that they wouldn't have to spend the rest of their life in the miry clay. that you want to set their feet upon the rock of Jesus Christ and establish their goings. Lord, help someone in here to put their faith and trust in Jesus Christ. In his name we pray, amen.
