Amen. I'm glad he never fails this morning. Amen. If you have your Bibles, let's turn to John chapter number 4. John chapter number 4. And again, it is a privilege to be in the house of the Lord this morning. And I thank the Lord for His goodness in our life. And I thank Him for sending you this way. I was telling Brother Shepherd there, we were in South Dakota, I've preached to just two or three. I've preached to a few hundred before, but I love to preach to faces, not empty pews. Amen? It's easier to preach when you see people's faces and you know they're soaking up the things of God. And I'm glad you're here this morning. And if this is your first time here, then we're glad you're here. and hope and pray that God will do something for you today. John chapter 4, I want to begin reading in verse number 1 this morning and read down a little ways probably about verse number 14. Very, very familiar passage of Scripture, but a tremendous truth here I want to bring to you today. If you're able to stand with us as we read, let's stand together. beginning in verse 1 of John chapter number 4. The Bible said, When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John, though Jesus Himself baptized not but His disciples, He left Judea and departed again into Galilee. and he must needs go through Samaria. Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well, and it was about the sixth hour. There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water. Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink. For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat. Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? For the Jews have no dealing with the Samaritans. Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink, thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. From whence then hast thou that living water? Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle? Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again. But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst. but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. Let's go to the Lord in prayer. Father, I thank You for the privilege of being here this morning. I thank You, Lord, for the sweet Spirit that we sense that is in the service already. And God, I have a desire, and I know You have a desire, to see something happen this morning. Lord, we know that You're in control. We know that we want things done according to Your will. Lord, we know it's Your will this morning that sinners be saved. We know, Lord, that it's Your will that the people of God be revived. And I pray, God, that You would move today in this service and do exactly what needs to be done. Lord, I pray You'd help me be obedient in what we say and what we preach. And I pray you to open the hearts of those that are in the pews and God may today be a life-changing experience for someone in the service today. Lord, we'll rejoice and we'll thank you and we'll praise you. In Jesus' name we ask these things. Amen. You can be seated. Now, in John chapter number 4, most of you are very familiar with the passage of Scripture that I read to you this morning. But we find the Lord is now in His earthly ministry. Back in chapter 2, we see the turning of the water into wine at the marriage of Cana. We find that the marriage of Cana is the first public miracle in the life of the Lord Jesus Christ. And then in John chapter 3, he begins to reveal himself to Nicodemus by night. Then when we get into John chapter 4, the Lord begins to move across the countryside and begins to reach out to those that are unsaved. And we find in our Scripture this morning that He comes in contact with the woman at the well. Now, my thought this morning is what Jesus is saying here in the Scripture. He's with His disciples at the beginning of this chapter. He has been accused, if you will, of baptizing more than the disciples of John. And Jesus begins to move across the countryside and to tell the gospel of himself and let others know how to be saved. Now in verse number 4, this is my thought this morning. The Bible said Jesus said this, or the Scripture said this, John said, and he must needs go through Samaria. I want you to see that the Lord was on a mission. The Lord was not just on a vacation. He was not just wandering around. Matter of fact, everything that God has ever done or ever will do has an intention and a purpose behind it. There are times where we do things without purpose or intention. There's a lot of times we'll wander around. Sometimes we get out in the car and we call it loafering. We'll get out on a pretty day and ride around and see the sights in one thing or another. But the Lord was not doing that. The Lord was on a mission. And my thought for the message this morning is just simply this, the Lord's seeking. The Lord's seeking. If Jesus Christ were here today and He were seeking or had a plan to do something, what would He be doing? Well, I believe in John 4 we see the main reason why that Jesus came. You remember in the story of Zacchaeus, the Lord said that He came to seek and save that which was lost. And that's exactly what he's doing here in John chapter 4. And can I say to you this morning, that's exactly what he's doing today. I mentioned to our Sunday school class about the different dispensations of time from Genesis until now. And we are living in the dispensation of the gospel of the grace of God. We're living in the grace dispensation. We're living in an hour where the grace of God is extended to whosoever will, and any man, woman, boy or girl that will realize they're a sinner and reach out to the Savior, He has already reached out to you, and He will save you by His marvelous grace. If you're here today and you're saved, you understand what I'm talking about. You've been there before. There was a day in your life where you sensed the Lord seeking you, and you realized that Christ was coming to where you were, and He began to deal with your heart, and He began to bring you to that place of repentance. And then if you are saved today, you did turn from your sin, and you trusted Christ as Savior. And what a wonderful thing it is, there's no other way to have peace or joy, or no other way to enjoy the things of God outside of being saved. Matter of fact, life is a miserable thing without knowing the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Savior. And we find the Lord now is going to run head-on into this woman at the well. And He has a desire to see her saved. And if you're here today and you're not saved, I can tell you on the authority of the Scripture this morning that Christ has a desire to see you saved. That is the main thing this morning. There's a lot of things that the Lord does. There's a lot of things that He ministers to or things that He works through in the church. But the main thing that the Lord wants is to see sinners saved. And I believe that ought to be the main goal of the local church and of the believer of Christ is that we do everything we can to tell others about the saving grace of our Lord and Savior. Now I'm going to give you about four things in our text here quickly this morning about the Lord's seeking. And if you are saved, this is just going to take you down memory lane. And you can rejoice over it. I'm thankful sometimes when the Lord allows me to just go back in my mind and remember what it was like to get saved. And remember the good things of being saved and how God brought me from a life of sin. It is a good memory to have. And if you're saved, that'll be what you get this morning. But if you're not saved today, I pray that the Lord will open your eyes and you'll see a seeking Savior that is looking to save you. Now if you'll notice with me in our text this morning, first of all, I want to notice the route that the Lord Jesus Christ took. I've already mentioned to you that everything He did and does has a purpose to it. In verse number 1, we find Him moving. The Bible tells us that The Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John, though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples. And of course, the Lord, we know from chapter 2 that John the Baptist said, I must decrease And he must increase. We find that throughout the Scripture. And we find that in chapter 1 also the Bible tells us about John being the forerunner of Christ, just preparing the way of the Lord. And then John begins to slip off the scene and magnify the Lord as Jesus begins His earthly ministry. So he's moving about. And I want to remind you today that's what the Lord is doing now. Now, he's not here in physical form as he was in the days of John chapter 4, but he is here in spiritual form. Matter of fact, the person of the Holy Ghost, that is the Spirit of Christ. And he is here today in this world moving about, dealing with the hearts of men, drawing men unto himself. And we find the Lord is moving. I'm glad this morning that he's moving. He said, how do you know the Lord's moving? I know He's moving because the church is still here. I know He's saving because we've still got us down here being the eyes and the ears and the hands and the feet of the Lord, the body of Christ. When God gets done moving on planet earth, we the believers will be called up and we'll go home to be with the Lord. So until then, I know that somewhere the Lord is moving. And He was moving in John chapter 4. Notice something else about His route that we find from our text. We find His mission in verse number 3. The Bible said that He left Judea and departed again unto Galilee. And then verse 4 lets us know that He must needs go through Samaria. Now, this is interesting. The mission of the Lord was going to take Him to a place where many people would not go. The Jews so much hated the Samaritans in that day that they would leave out, if they were in Judea as the Lord was, which was south of Samaria, and they were going to Galilee, which was north of Samaria, they would leave out and go in an easterly direction across the Jordan River up through that land and back into the north land of Galilee there to stay out of the land of the Samaritans. They hated them. They were not pure Jews, and they did not care for them. They looked at them as half-breeds and those that had no inheritance in the things of God. So that's where the majority would go in their route. But that's not where the Lord went. The Lord was on a mission, and that mission was to go through Samaria. And can I say to you this morning, if you're saved, there was a day when Christ made you His mission. And if you're not saved this morning, He is making you His mission. Somebody said one time, and rightfully so, that the very first missionary was the Lord Jesus Christ. He left His home country, amen? He went to a foreign land to redeem those that were lost. And I'm glad this morning he's still doing that. I'm glad through the work of the person of the Holy Ghost of God that the Lord is still on a mission to save sinners. We find he's moving. And by the way, if you're going to be on a mission, you've got to be moving. You can't do a whole lot of the mission work setting steel. There has to be a moving. When missionaries go to the place that God calls them, they make a move, amen, and they go. And the Lord is moving. The Lord is on a mission. And then we find also in verse 4, we find the motive of the Lord. He is not on this mission to promote Himself, if you will. He's not on this mission for selfish reasons, but the Bible said He must needs go through Samaria. He had a purpose. He had a plan. He had a point. When he was going that way, he was going to find this lady. He knew exactly where she would be. And as he went through Samaria, he had an individual on his heart. Now, I don't know if he had anybody else on his heart at that day. I know God is able to do that. I know that there's times where the Lord moves in, and several will get saved, maybe in a service or in a revival, and the Lord will deal with multiple hearts at one time. And I don't know whether that was going on in this day, but I do know that He had this lady in mind. And I do know that he had a motive which was to seek and save this lady that needed salvation. And I want to remind you this morning, if you're not saved, the Lord has a motive this morning. He has a plan. He has a desire. He wants to save you. You might even be here this morning and you woke up and you came down to the house of God because somebody begged you to, or maybe there's a husband here, you came because your wife made you come, or pressured you to come, maybe there's some young people here this morning, and mom and dad said we're going to church whether you like it or not, I say amen to that mom and dad. It still ought to be that way. We should not take a vote on Sunday morning, Sunday night, and Wednesday night, whether we're going down to the house of God. Amen? We don't do that at my house, you ought not do that at your house. We ought to draw a line in the sand and say, we're going to be down at the house of God and in the things of God. As Joshua said, as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. Amen? So you find the Lord has a motive now. And you may have come this morning with nothing on your mind but to get to church, go through the services, get out and have a good day. But can I tell you this morning, God has something far greater on His mind, and that's saving you and changing your life. And if you'll listen just for a moment this morning and let the Lord sink into your heart, He will change your life forever and ever. You'll find there's a route, and I'm glad God's always on a route. Then you'll notice with me in our text this morning, the second thing about the seeking of the Lord, I find there's a place of rest. Just like anybody that's moving, there comes a time of rest. We notice in our Scripture, physically speaking, the Lord needed some rest. Remember, He's 100% God, but He's also 100% man. His body got tired like your body, and my body would have gotten tired. And He needed some rest, but it was far greater than the physical rest that He was going to gain. Let's notice what happens here. We find in verse number 5 a particular place. Notice what the Scripture said, Then cometh He to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son. So I want you to notice in verse 5 that the Lord, as He's going from Judea to Galilee, and He said, I must needs go through Samaria, as He's making that route, He's finding a particular place to rest or to stop at. And I am glad this morning that as the Lord, the Holy Ghost, is seeking about whom He may save, is walking about, dealing with the hearts of men, I'm going to tell you what He's looking for. He's looking for a place to rest. We know in the New Testament that as a saved individual, as a Bible believer, we have the indwelling of the Holy Ghost of God. Do you remember in the days of Noah? Do you remember after the flood and God allowed Noah to stay on that ark for a while and then Noah was going to test the waters and see how things were? Do you remember at first He sent out the raven? And the raven is a picture of our flesh nature. He sent that raven out, it never came back. Now we know the waters were not abated off the earth yet, So where did the raven go? He didn't have any life to land on. He didn't have any budding trees or dry ground to land on. But what the raven did was he landed on the carcasses of those dead animals. And he was right at home there. He was happy there. But do you remember the second bird that Noah sent out? He sent out the dove. And a dove is a type of the Spirit of God, of the indwelling of the Holy Ghost in the life of the believer. And when Noah sent out that dove the first time, the dove came back. And the Bible said she found no place to rest the sole of her foot. And when she went out the second time, she found that olive branch. She found a place where she could rest, a place of life. And I want to say to you this morning, as the Lord is moving, and as He's on His route seeking whom He may save, He's looking for a heart to rest in. He's looking for a willing individual that will say, Lord, come in and save me and change my life. Now, you may reject Him. You may be carnal, like the raven typifies. And you may not want the Lord in your life and reject Him. And He'll fly somewhere else. And He'll go somewhere else and find a place of rest. But we find in our text this morning that the Lord comes to a particular place to rest. I remember when I got saved, God showed up to a particular place, and that was in my life. I don't know who else He may have dealt with in the service that evening. I don't know who else that God may have been working with, but I do know that He came to a particular place, and that was in my heart and in my life. And if you're saved this morning, there was a day, there was an hour, there was a moment when the Lord came to where you were personally and put up His rest in your heart. Amen? Jesus said in John 14 concerning the Spirit of God, He said it's expedient that I go away. He said if I go away, the Comforter cannot come. But He said when I go away, He said I'll send that Comforter. Amen? And if you're saved this morning, you know what it's like to have the Comforter resting in your life. I find it was a particular place where the Lord wanted to rest, praise God. Aren't you glad this morning God wants to rest in the life of sinners? You say, wait a minute, preacher, why would a holy God rest in the life of sinners? Because when He rests in their life, they're not going to be sinners anymore. That's why, amen? That's what those Pharisees couldn't understand. when they got angry with the Lord and said, why are you eating with sinners? Why are you fellowshipping with sinners? Well, they just didn't understand He was changing sinners, amen? He was not going to hang around with them and leave them the same, but He's going to make a difference in their life. And let's notice something else about His rest this morning. Not only do I see a particular place in verse 5, I see a particular point. He narrows it down in verse 6. The Bible said, now Jacob's well was there. Jesus, therefore, being wearied with His journey, sat on the whale, and it was about the sixth hour. Notice the particular point. It is a place of Jacob's whale. This was a whale that had been there many, many years, hundreds of years. Day after day, the people would come and partake of that whale. Day after day, they would draw water up out of that well. And God knew, in the sovereignty of His own will and His own ways, He knew that He would show up at that well and there would be a woman there. I'm glad this morning for a particular place, but then I'm glad for a particular point. Amen? This was just not circumstance that the Lord showed up at the well. When that woman came to that well, what was she coming to do? She was coming to draw water out of the well. Why? because her natural flesh was thirsty. She wanted a drink. What better place to get a drink than at the well? What better place to satisfy a thirsty soul than when one comes to the well? Now she came for natural satisfaction, but the Lord showed up to give her spiritual and eternal satisfaction. Amen? That was the point that the Lord had in her life. Can I say to you this morning, when God shows up in your life, He's there for a point. He's not there just to get you out of a jam. He's not there just to make your life a little better. He's not there just to make you feel good. Matter of fact, when God shows up in a sinner's life, you don't feel good to begin with. Amen? That's one of the ways you know God is dealing with you when the light comes on in your soul and you realize how wretched and how vile you are. And if you're experiencing that this morning, just hang on a little while and look to God and He'll save you. Amen? You've got to get lost before you can get found. And here He was. Now, He was showing up with a particular point, and that was to change the life of this woman at the well. The Lord was not going to leave her like He found her. Can I say to you this morning, if Christ ever found you, He didn't leave you the same. Amen? If He ever moved into your heart, you are different. I like the old song, it's different now since Jesus saved my soul. It's different now since by His grace and by His blood I've been made whole. Amen? I'm glad it's different this morning when the Lord comes in our life. You see, there's a particular point. Notice something else in verse 6 about the rest of the Lord. There is a particular period, amen? I like this. It just shows the sovereignty and the graciousness of God. Look at this. The Bible said in verse 6, the last phrase, and it was about the sixth hour. If you know Bible time, you understand the sixth hour was noonday. They began with that watch in the morning about six o'clock. And it was the sixth hour. It was the middle of the day. It was the last time that anybody would think that anybody would be at the well. The ones that went to the well usually went in the morning or occasionally in the evening, but they never went in the middle of the day. The middle of the day it was too hot. It was a labor. What is water? A little over eight pounds a gallon? So it was a labor for her to fetch that water in the middle of the day when the sun was bearing down. But you see, the Lord knew that. The Lord knew where she would be. Now most people would have said, wait a minute God, if you want to save, you ought to show up there early in the morning. If you want to run into somebody and make contact with them, go early in the morning. But the Lord knew the period of where that woman would be at the well. Don't be afraid of the sovereignty of God this morning. Now, I'm not a Calvinist, amen? Nowhere near it, amen? I'm not a 2 point, 3 point, 5 point, or whatever you want to say. I know some say they're this and that. I have nothing to do with any of that because I'm a whosoever will this morning. If you want to know, I believe anybody can get saved when they'll call upon Christ, amen? I don't believe there's an elect going to heaven and going to hell. I believe that the saints of God are predestined when we become saved and get in Christ, but predestination is never attributed to a sinner going to hell. It's always tied into Christ. I believe it's Isaiah 43, the first mention of the word elect. is explaining the person of Christ. When he talks about mine elect, it's not talking about a normal individual, it's talking about Christ. And when you get in Christ, you become the elect this morning. When you get in Christ, you are predestined to be conformed to the image of Him. It has just a little side issue there that won't cost you a thing. I don't think we've got any twisted-minded Calvinist in here, but if we do, maybe that'll help you just a little bit. Amen. I'm glad I don't believe that lazy man's religion. We see there's a particular place, a particular point, a particular period. The Lord knew exactly where that woman would be at that time of day. Can I tell you something this morning that may blow your mind? God knows exactly where you're at at any given time of the day. You may be here this morning and you've got it all covered up. You may be here today and you may look like everything's alright. You may have a smile on your face. You may have put on air when you came in the door that I'm right with God. But God knows down in your heart if you're not right with Him, He knew you'd be here this morning. He knew you'd be thirsty, amen. He said, preacher, I'm not saved, but I'm not thirsty. I don't believe that, amen. You may have all the money the world has to offer. You may be involved with all the pleasures of sin for a season. But if you'd be honest this morning down deep in your soul, there's an emptiness, there's a thirst. You've drunk from every well in the country. and you just have to go back again and again and again. And there is One this morning that has found you at the well, and He's wanting you to drink of Him. And if you will, I will promise you by experience this morning and the authority of God's Word, you will never thirst again. Amen. My, my, he had a place of rest. I'm glad for the day that the Lord came to rest in my life. Notice thirdly in our text this morning real quickly, notice his request. Now is where it gets personal. I'm glad this morning the Lord's not afraid to get personal with those He wants to save. Look at what begins to happen here. In verse number 7, we notice it was personal. Look what the Bible said. There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water. Now Jesus could have sat there and He could have talked about the weather and one thing and another, but I want you to notice what the Lord said. The Bible said, Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink. He struck up a personal conversation with her. I remember when I got saved, God spoke to me personally. I heard a preacher say this one time. He said, somebody asked him, said, have you ever heard God audibly? And he said, no, I've never heard Him audibly. I've heard Him much more clear than that. Amen. And I'm going to tell you something, when God spoke to my heart the night that I was lost and before I got saved, it was clearer than any audible voice. It rang a bell down deep in my soul. I didn't have to ask anybody or figure out what was going on. I knew that God the Holy Ghost was dealing with my heart. I knew He had spoken to me down deep in my soul, put His finger in my life, and said, you're a sinner and you need to get saved. Amen? You see here, it was a personal thing. He spoke to her. She had no misunderstanding who it was speaking to her. And if you're not saved this morning, you will have no misunderstanding when God shows up in your life. When God begins to speak to you, He will make it clear. God does not play games. He doesn't play hide-and-go-seek. He doesn't hide around the corner and say, find me if you can. He'll show up where you're at. He'll put His spiritual finger in your face, amen, and He'll speak to you right where you are. I'm glad God saves sinners where they are, but He does not leave them where they are. He brings them out. You see, it's a personal request. Notice in verse 7 and 8, it was appointed to request. The Bible said in verse 7, Again, Jesus saith unto her, Give me a drink. For his disciples were gone away into the city to buy meat. I like the pointedness of what the Lord says to her. The Lord says, Listen, I want you to reach down in that well and give me a drink. Now, this set off a chain of events in this lady's life. She began to be amazed by what was going on, and we're going to see that in just a minute. When the Lord began to tell her, I want you to give me a drink, and began to command to her what needed to be done, then it set off some things in her life that was going to make a difference and bring her to the point of salvation. Now you notice this morning it was pointed. But look at this. We notice in verse 9, his request to her was puzzling. It was a puzzling thing. Notice this. Look what verse 9 tells us. Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me? She was puzzled. She couldn't figure this out. I can imagine when this woman came up to the well, and she was working her way up there, and she got to the well, and she got to the place where the Lord was, I can see her coming up that trail, that pathway, and she probably thought, oh goodness, I didn't think nobody was going to be here today. Oh goodness, there's a man sitting at the well. I've got to get in and get out. I've got to get my water, and I've got to move on. And as she's coming up, she probably had her head bowed. Probably had her veil pulled down real low where nobody could see who she was. She got up to that well, probably began to do her business, and the Lord said, listen, I want you to give me a drink. And I'm sure fear came into her heart. I'm sure she began to think, goodness, what is going on? Why is this man speaking to me? It brought a puzzling in her life. I remember when God was dealing with my heart, it puzzled me. I did not understand Him. I did not understand why He would want to deal with my heart. I can remember even after I got saved for quite a long period of time, I still had trouble sometimes just believing that God loved me enough to save me. It was a puzzling thing in my life. And listen, if you're here this morning and you're puzzled about being lost and puzzled about being saved, there's one that will clear it up for you this morning. He will not leave you in a perplexed situation. He will not leave you in mystery. He will reveal Himself to you and make it clear and let you know what you need to do to be saved. You find verse 9, she said this, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me? which am a woman of Samaria. For the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans." See, this was an amazing thing to her. And if you're saved this morning, you'd agree with me, it's an amazing thing that God came to us. It's an amazing thing the Lord would even deal with me and my sin, or you and your sin. And you might be an individual today saying, I'm lost, but I don't think God would deal with me because of my sin. Well, let me give you this Scripture here. This woman was a sinner. We know from the Bible, we know from studying the Scripture, that she'd been married five times and the one she was with was not her husband. She was living in sin, but yet God showed up in her life anyway. It was puzzling to her, but it was Christ wanting to seek her out and save her. And you might say this morning, I'm puzzled about being convicted. I'm puzzled about why God's dealing with my heart. Don't let the perplexity of the situation overwhelm you. Just believe Christ. He wants to save you. She's puzzling. It was piercing. Look in verse number 10. Notice the piercing part of the situation. Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink, thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. Now, remember the Lord begins by dealing with the natural. And he does that so many times in the scripture. He deals with her natural thirst. He gets her mind on the natural part of why she's there. And then he said, all right, I'm going to get more pointed about it. I'm going to let you know if you really knew who it was you were talking to, you'd forget this natural water, and you'd ask for that spiritual water, and you'd drink of it where you'd never thirst again. And you see, that's what God does when he gets a sinner down to the point of being saved. He begins to deal with that heart and begins to get piercing in the words. That's what the Word of God's for. Hebrews chapter 4, it is quick, powerful, sharper than any two-edged sword. Amen? The Word of God is piercing. It gets down into the very intents and the hearts of man. That's why the Word has to be preached in its power and in its purity, because it's the piercingness of the Word of God that will get into your heart, reveal to you you're a sinner, and then reveal to you in that same instant that there is a Savior that loves you and wants to save you. I'm glad for the piercing Word of God. That's why I don't use other Bibles than the King James Bible. I don't mess with other perversions. Why? Because they're not piercing, they're watered down. They've been tainted by the hands and the mind of men. I believe in the pure, inerrant, infallible, inspired Word of God. That's where the sharpness is at. That's where the conviction is at. When you get in this holy looking glass, you will find out what manner of man you are. See, it was a piercing thing. Now let's notice this last thing, and I'll finish this morning. Notice his revelation to her. This was the whole desire that the Lord had of getting to this place, meeting this woman at the well. His desire was not to pierce her heart and leave her there. His desire was not to make her feel wretched and leave her there. Now that's part of it. Again, you've got to get lost before you get saved. A lot of people say, well, I don't believe in all that preaching on things and the law, one thing or another. Listen, Paul said in the book of Galatians, it was that law that became a schoolmaster that brought me to Christ. We must know what sin is. We must know what hell is. We must know what rejection will cost an individual when they reject Christ. We must tell that. and magnify that so that sinners will see their need to get saved. But I'm glad God doesn't leave us there. Look at the revelation. Look in verse number 11. The Bible said in verse 11, we find her question. Look what happens here. The Bible said, The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. From whence then hast thou that living water? And she's still puzzled. That's where we were at before we got saved. Don't be too hard on her. That's where you and I were at. She's puzzled. She said, Okay, I've got a question, Lord. You say you're going to give me eternal life, living water, but where are you going to get it from? You don't have anything in your hands, Lord. You don't have any bucket, no rope, nothing to go down into that well and pull that water out. She was thinking in a carnal mind, not a spiritual mind, because she didn't have a spiritual mind. And you might be here today and you've got a question saying, how in the world is God going to satisfy me? How in the world are the things of God? A lot of times sinners will look at Christians and they'll say, boy, what a boring life. Well, you just need to follow us around a little while. You'll find out it's not boring, amen? They'll look at Christians and say, what a miserable life. No, you're the one that's got We can go out and have a good time, go to bed and sleep and not worry about it. You go out and have a good time, you're looking over your shoulder seeing if the law is going to knock on your door or somebody is going to hunt you down for something you've done wrong. It's much better being a Christian and a child of God this morning. She had a question, how's this going to work? You may have a question this morning, how's God going to save me? You may say this morning, I went too far, I've done too much, God can't save me, I've waited too long. You've got all kinds of questions. Let me tell you this morning, the revelation of Christ to you personally will answer all of your questions. See, she had a question. Verse 11 and 12. How is this going to happen? Look in verse 12. She said, Art thou greater than our father Jacob? Yes, he was. She didn't understand that yet. Which gave us the whale and drank thereof himself and his children and his cattle. She didn't understand that the one she was talking to was before Jacob ever showed up on the scene. The one she was talking to was the God whom Jacob and Abraham and Isaac served. And she had a question, but notice this. We get to verse number 13. Now she has a quandary. Amen. She's perplexed now. The question runs into a quandary. She's in a fix, and she don't know what to do now. Look at verse number 13. I like this. Look what the Bible said. In verse 13, Jesus answered and said unto her, I like this, whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again. Notice this, but whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst. That's what her perplexity is. That's what her situation is. Can I say, if you're lost this morning and you're not saved, that's where you're at. You've got one hand that says, if I drink of this water, I'm going to be satisfied, talking of the natural water. That natural water of that whale, it represents this morning all the things in life that the flesh would enjoy. Is there anybody here today that does not enjoy a good cold drink of water when it's hot? Is there anybody here today? All of us that have flesh on us, and if you don't have flesh on you, you ain't here. Amen? We've all got flesh. And every one of us, our fleshly nature loves the fulfillment of a drink of water to the flesh. And that's why it's a picture of the flesh nature. There's all kinds of things you could get involved in out in this world. And that's where sinners are at. They're in a rock and a hard place. They're between and betwixt. And the flesh says, no, don't get saved. You're going to miss out on all this. The flesh says, don't go to church, you're missing out on the good things of life. The flesh says, live it up and don't worry about spiritual things and eternal things. You just got to live while you can and enjoy every minute of it and just soak up all the things of life. That's where sinners are at today and that's what they're seeking, the natural desire of the flesh to drink of the water of this world. But here's the other side of it. When Jesus said, all right, you can drink of this well, and I'll promise you one thing, lady, and I'm paraphrasing this morning. Jesus might have said, I promise you one thing, lady, you can drink of this well all you want. You can stand here at this well, and you can drink until you're barely still, and I'll promise you this, God, tomorrow you'll have to come back again. Can I say to you this morning, if you're lost, you can go out on Friday or Saturday or whenever you want to and live it up, and you can drink of everything the world wants to put in the cup for you, but I will promise you one thing, you'll wake up the next morning thirsty again. You'll go the next week thirsty again. You will never get satisfied. There's probably somebody sitting here this morning, you've drunk up all the world wants you to drink, and you're as empty, and you're hollow this morning, and God is saying, listen, turn from that earthly water, turn from that fleshly desire, turn to me and I'll give you spiritual water, and you will never thirst again. But I've never had to have another spiritual trial. I've never had to go get saved again. I've never had to go back to that spiritual well. Because when I got saved, that well sprang up in my life. Amen. A river of living water. And so it did for you if you're saved today. You see, there was a question, there was a decision, a quandary here that she was in. And finally, look in verse 14. Notice her quest, the last part of verse 14. Let me read the whole verse again. Jesus said, But whosoever drinketh of the water, that I shall give him shall never thirst. But the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. Do you know that whether you know it or not, if you're lost, you may not agree to this this morning, but I know what the Bible says about people. And if you're lost today, you may not agree with this, but what you don't realize is Jesus is what you're looking for. Now, you may not say that. You may say, boy, if I can get out of here, I'm tired of hearing that preacher. I'm tired of hearing them songs. I'm going to go out here and turn something on, the TV, worldly. I'm going to get in the car and listen to some kind of worldly music and get back to where I was before I came in here. You may think that's what you want, but that's not what you want. On the outside that might be what you want, but down inside that's not what you want. What you want is Christ. Amen. You may not realize it this morning, but that is the only thing that's going to satisfy your soul. You can drink from every well this world has to provide, but until you by faith drink from the water of life, until you by faith trust Christ and give it to Him and turn from the wells of this world, then you're going to be thirsty every single day. I challenge you, I beg you this morning, Drink of Christ and you'll never thirst again. We've already heard it testified in the service this morning how good it is to be saved. We're not just saying that. We don't call each other, us church members, we don't call each other on Saturday night and rehearse what we're going to say down at the house of God. That comes from a real heart, amen? That comes from somebody that once was lost but now is found. And I'm telling you this morning, there's a Lord that's seeking you. There's a God right now today. Now is the accepted time. Today is the day of salvation. He is seeking you this morning. That's why He sent the message. That's why He put the Psalms in the choir and the special singing to let you know that He loves you, and He cares for you, and He's asking you this morning just to come and drink of that water of life, and you'll be changed. Amen. I beg you this morning, if the Lord's seeking you, and I know that He's seeking. If you're lost, He's seeking. Amen. And if God's seeking you this morning, I beg you to turn to Him. I beg you to do what this woman did. We don't have time to go through it all. I'm out of time this morning. But when it clicked in her heart and in her mind, she dropped that water bucket. Amen. I'll tell you what you'll do when you get right back, you'll drop that fish in the water bucket. Amen. Oh, you might be tempted to pick it up a time or two, but it won't mean near as much to you as it did before you got saved. You'll drop that flesh in a water bucket. She ran into the city and said, come see a man that told me all that ever I was. Is not this the Christ, amen? That's what you'll be doing when you get right with God. You tell somebody else. about the goodness of God. I'm glad for the seeking of the Lord this morning. God's seeking you. If you're not saved today by the authority of His Word, I'm here to let you know God is seeking you. And if you will let Him have His way in your life, He'll save you and He'll change your life. Amen? You have the message this morning. I pray God would put it in our hearts. Let's stand heads bowed. Sister, if you come to the piano. God spoke to your heart this morning and you're unsaved. You need to make your way out of that seat and come to this altar and say, God saved me. He'll save you. Don't wait till you get home. Don't wait till you get in the car. God's dealing with your heart. Move now. If you're saved today, you say, Preacher, I know I'm saved. I know I'm saved, but yet I just want to get closer to the Lord. You need to come this morning. You come. Maybe the message this morning just reminded you of how good it is to be saved. I'm so thankful for the times the Spirit of God will come my way along through life, take me back down memory's lane, and remind me when I drink of that well of living water. Would you come today while she plays if God spoke to you? Let the Spirit of God have His way in your life. Let the Word of God become effectual to you this morning. Oh, you're drinking out of every well this world has to offer. I can see it sometimes in people's faces. I can see people come to church, even those that have been saved. I can see them sometimes come to church. And on their countenance, I can tell they're drinking from the world. The choir doesn't mean anything to them when it's singing. The message doesn't penetrate their heart. The prayers of the saints doesn't move them. The testimony of the saints doesn't challenge them. You know what that lets me know? You're drinking from the wrong fountain. You're drinking from the fountains of this world. The book of Jeremiah. Jeremiah prophesied to the nation of Judah. And he said, this is what you've done. He said, you've forsaken the fountain of living water. I believe it's Jeremiah chapter 2. He said, you've forsaken the fountain of living water. He said, and you've hewn out cisterns, broken cisterns that can hold no water. Now, I'm not old enough to remember it, but some of you do remember the days of cisterns. I talked to an older lady one time that grew up with a cistern where they took the roof water and ran it through rocks and tried to make water to live with. And I'm going to tell you, I'm not the smartest person in the house this morning, but if you give me a fountain or a cistern to drink out of, I'm not going to have to pray about which one to drink out of. I'm not even going to have to think about it. I'm running to the fountain. And there's some this morning you may be drinking out of the broken cisterns of this world. You've got to filter through all the leaves and the trash and the mud and the sediment to get just a little bit of water. When you don't have to do that this morning, there's a fresh fountain. I grew up on spring water, amen? I'll go take you right to the place, that spring's still running, feeds seven houses. Take you right to the place where that water come out from under that rock. The best water you ever drank in your life, amen? It was always fresh, always clear, nothing wrong with it. Which whale are you drinking out of this morning?
The Lord's Seeking
The Lord sought out the woman at the well just like he continues to seek and save sinners.
