We live in times of great uncertainty.
One of the comforts of the Bible is the truth that God is in control of all things. We call this His providence. The Westminster Larger Catechism answer eighteen gives a succinct definition of providence: "God's works of providence are His most holy, wise, and powerful preserving and governing all His creatures; ordering them, and all their actions, to His glory." In the Spring Theology Conference 2014, we will study God's Works of Providence, examining biblically what providence is and such topics as its relation to evil, sin, suffering, and prayer.
"We make God the ruler and governor of all things, who in accordance with His wisdom has from the farthest limit of eternity decreed what He was going to do, and now by His might carries out what He has decreed. From this we declare that not only heaven and earth and the inanimate creatures, but also the plans and intentions of men, are so governed by His providence that they are borne by it straight to their appointed end."
~ John Calvin. Institutes, 1.16.8 ~
The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.
~ Proverbs 16:9 ~
