"He (Foy Valentine) led the denomination (SBC) to support liberalized abortion laws, even aligning what‚Äôs now the ERLC with the Religious Coalition for Abortion Rights, and celebrating Roe v. Wade. Some of this was rooted, I think, in a deep-seated anti-Catholicism within Baptist life at the time. Valentine was able to convince Southern Baptists that abortion was a ‚ÄúCatholic issue,‚ÄĚ not ours. What a tragedy." Russell Moore, President of the SBC Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, ]]Interview about the history and future of the ERLC
When the SBC went anti-Catholic in the 70s, it got abortion dead wrong. If Moore remains anti-Catholic on defining marriage, the SBC will continue to get this wrong, too. What another tragedy this is becoming.
