how is watching a crime and doing nothing, making peace?
How is making a fictional fairy story out of this article and from that arming missionary "support units" the Biblical thing to do?

This article tells the story of missionaries attacked in India by some local men.

From that basis we have "Christians" posting how if they had been there they would use guns or clubs (see previous posts) to presumably kill these men.

The thread then develops into the fictional question "What would you do if?"

Those who attack the locals pat themselves on the back because they are big heroes.

Those who point out God's sovereignty in the life of His disciples are themselves attacked for not volunteering to use violence on the local men.

The Bible does not instruct Christians to go into mission or evangelism with weapons. The idea behind mission is to reach the lost, witness of Christ and teach Scripture. Resistance by the unsaved is natural in this fallen world but God does not teach His followers to react to this resistance with weapons. Even the least intelligent can see that would have a negative effect in witness.

James 1:20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God

2. Faith is the gift of God.
3. Stretching a point?

5. Same as point #1
6. War is ever so slightly a different point to five lady missionaries being attacked.
7. Ah now you're getting the Biblical idea.
8. It is.
9. Good Samaritan is helping the victim even if 'different' after the attack. Wrong point again.

Ups. It seems alien to many on the thread that (a) God is sovereign in the life of the elect. (b) Providence does have a practical effect in the Life of the elect. (c) Guns and clubs are not part of the kit for mission. (d) Attacking the locals because they resist the evangel is not a Biblical concept. (e) ....etc etc

Romans 8:36-39.

3. Help my family and the guy who attacked the ladies on mission - By doing the work of God. Mission is taking the sword of the WORD to those who are lost. But remember go as Jesus did, be a Christ-follower don't take weapons - trust only in Jesus.

Matt 5:21 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment: 22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment:

39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

God protects His own.

Josh 23:3 ... for the LORD your God is he that hath fought for you.

10 One man of you shall chase a thousand: for the LORD your God, he it is that fighteth for you, as he hath promised you. 11 Take good heed therefore unto yourselves, that ye love the LORD your God.

2Chron 16:9 For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.

Isaiah 54:17 No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.

Isaiah 43:2 When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

AND of course;
Psalm 23:4: Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Also Romans 8:37-39.

Repent Michael of the belligerent heart and theology you are displaying. The missionary when on the work of God should rely upon God - that's faith - and not rely upon weapons.

Realism is walking down the street one fine, sunny day. Realism sees a longtime Christain friend being robbed and beaten. Realism crosses the street thinking, "boy, God's angry with him!". As Realism comtinues the stroll, Realism sees a woman being beaten and raped by two men, a Christain woman who Realism knows. Realism, again, "well, it must be God's will."
Definition of lie:- "a false statement made with deliberate intent to deceive; an intentional untruth; a falsehood"

Careful Christopher remember Jesus warning about lies = "Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it." John 8:44

Better to be a "Peacemaker" than a vigilante on the mission field.
"Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God" Matt 5:9

For those who do not need guns and clubs to be faith sharing servants of God.

Psalm 91:5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;

6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.

7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.

8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.

9 Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;

10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.

13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.

14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.

15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.

16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation

You really can trust in God.

to excuse craven cowardice to stand by idly, doing nothing and pretend to be so theologically superior and let women be beaten? What kind of gospel, and what kind of witness is that? Oh! I know! I know! One devil's can delight in.
What absolute distortion of the truth! No one in this discussion has stated they will stand around and watch women get beaten. Your Cowardice insult is based on the speculation fiction of some around here who have fabricated silly theatrical scenarios about their macho unchristian unbiblical delusion of defending these missionaries.
The reality is that it is pure unadulterated fiction since God has clearly sovereignly ordained that it was completely unnecessary.
Why you people need to build an image of yourselves of paper heroics to respond to this article is beyond normal comprehension.
God is sovereign. The elect who alone serve Him on earth are protected in His providence. If these ladies are elect then they are protected. Even martyrs are protected by God not gun toting club wielding clowns who clearly don't know a sovereign omnipresent omnipotent providential God.

"brothers and sisters"???

The followers of the papal antichrist are idolatrous heretics. The REAL Christian knows that he/she is not even distantly related to the these religious reprobates.

2John 10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: 11 For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.

And for the "real" church to engage in sprinkling babies of believers and telling them they are special smacks of Catholicism to me.
Oh John..
When are you going to learn the truth??
The Westminster Divines provided the Biblically correct statement...
Quote::
WCF 28/3. Dipping of the person into the water is not necessary; but baptism is rightly administered by pouring or sprinkling water upon the person.a

a. Mark 7:4; Acts 2:41; 16:33; Heb 9:10, 19-22.

4. Not only those that do actually profess faith in and obedience unto Christ,a but also the infants of one or both believing parents are to be baptized.b

a. Mark 16:15-16; Acts 8:37-38. • b. Gen 17:7, 9 with Gal 3:9, 14 and Col 2:11-12 and Acts 2:38-39 and Rom 4:11-12; Mat 28:19; Mark 10:13-16; Luke 18:15; 1 Cor 7:14.

Now John for goodness sake don't get all confused by depth of water and Arminian type statements required to authenticate baptism.

ps; Pass this good news on to Lurker.
He's getting lonely.

Now that’s SCARY. The MD supersedes the Gospels. The MD can do what God cannot.
Ultimately, this is what everyone is signing on to.
The most important thing isn’t that we can make laws to suppress homosexuality, or define a marriage. (Islamic countries “have no homosexuals”.) ...........

The church is called to proclaim Jesus, who changes lives, which produces better societies. Reverse doesn't work.

The MD and the Gospel have TWO different aims. Isn't that obvious?

Don't forget the advice of the Lord who said...........
Luke 16:8 And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.

Perhaps the point which this Declaration has highlighted is that we should not give up on society, even if they don't all believe the Bible - and receive the truth.

I wonder about your use of the words, "if the gospel did work.." Are you saying that the gospel has not "worked"? That it has not achieved that which God designed it for? Then what is the purpose of the gospel?
Just asking questions, don't you know.
There are many non Christians who are still abhorrent of the current state of moral standards, or indeed the lack of them in society. They may never be converted but they might listen and be supported in their moral position by "anyone" who comes to their aid on these problems. The elect of God are always only going to be a remnant of the church - never mind society. But this does not mean that the non Christian majority all join in the current amoral mind set.
Look at the bunch at Matthew 7:21-23, they were rejected by Christ - but they did try.

So what do we do?
Sit back on our haunches and bleat about moral decline in secret?

Or take some action to "Declare" our position and abhorrence against societies promiscuous and perfidious ways? Reminding them there is another way?
No?

All that Sproul, and others, have achieved by complaining that they are "above" the statement in the Declaration is some form of intellectual elitism, (holier than thou), which is completely inappropriate in this debate of society.

Indeed in their rejection of the Declaration thay may be seen by the public as to identify with the Liberals on this subject.

After all if the gospel did work in these areas of society then the Manhattan Declaration would not have been necessary, would it?

But clearly there is an identifiable need here to reach some of the roots of societies present mind set, which is not being addressed by the gospel or church.
