DisplacedMaritimer (Bert) wrote: Of course, you need faith for salvation – what the Catholic Church says, based upon many passages of Scripture, is that the faith must be backed up by works. In other words, faith without works will not save you. Bert What you have done here in your statement is given "equal status" to both faith, (divine) and works, (Sinners effort) Thus you make salvation out to be a combined effort of God and sinner. Thus you imply that GOD "needs" human contribution to be able to save. That is untrue. But salvation is of God alone, by the merits of Christ alone. Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. Sinners efforts do not contribute to salvation. Election by God alone, takes care of that. BTW faith is the work of the Holy Spirit in the heart of the elect, not a human faculty. Eph 1:17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, MAY GIVE unto you ....... 19..... who believe, ACCORDING TO the working of HIS mighty power" |
