Encouraging Sermon! The Compassion of Jesus
Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”
‘when He saw the crowds …’ the primary remedy is ‘to pray earnestly to the Lord’ to send out labourers into His harvest, labourers He has called and prepared and burdened, His men, the right man raised up and sent, in response to His people’s prayers. Many who say they have the office of ‘evangelist’ neither demonstrate the Lord’s compassion for the crowds of sinners or the willingness to go, but often demonstrate that they are neither called nor sent in the first place by their complacency and self-satisfaction. A great sermon to encourage each of us to cry to the Lord to send forth 'His' labourers |
