Jesus came to save sinners, of whom I am chief. Thank God this is still true regardless of what is preached in the American pulpit. I tire of the so-called Christian religiosity that is so quick to brandish the sword of standards and law yet quietly hides itself in self righteousness.

What about Iraq? How about this illegal, murderous war? Can anyone be Christian and support this travesty of the Bush Administration?

It is a sad fact that we live in a racist country. It is comforting, though, to know that the New Creation will have people from every tribe, tongue and nation. I am embarrassed for the Church. She has swallowed the lie of the Empire. That we must be conservatives and political. But Jesus loved and cared about the poor. The rich had no need of Him and His judgement of them was true. It is harder for a camel to go through the eye of a needle. May the Church open her sleepy eyes and wake from her slumber or she may, like the Jews, miss her Messiah.

If she (Palin) were not such a caricature it would be laughable that this is even an issue. I thank God McCain chose her as his running mate. Hopefully, it will back fire on him and he'll lose the presidency. This country should not be surprised to find itself in this predicament.

I think it is high time for the church to stop patronizing the political arena. This country is not the Kingdom of God. Far from it. It looks more and more like the last empire before Christ's return. Whoever gets the unenviable job of running this ship, undoubtedly they have a terrible job ahead. I cannot vote for McCain as he has been like minded with Bush over 90% of the time and Bush is an evil king who has done great harm to this country and the world. However, I don't know that I can vote for Obama either. Either choice is wrought with compromise. Maybe for this reason alone Jesus remained conspicuously distant from politics. God remember your people in the US and the world.

Faithful Remnant,

I have to say that I am utterly perplexed sometimes with Christians. I don't know how you came to know Jesus but I met two people, a woman and her husband, who loved me unconditionally while never compromising the word of God. It took about a year to convert me even though I had been brought up in the Southern Baptist Church. God continually amazes me how He weaves our paths together and so it just numbs my brain to hear that a person who has come to experience this unearthly love could ever withhold it from someone because of their sin. Truly it baffles me and I have to question then whether they have ever experienced this love from God. By the way, I am no longer a Southern Baptist but I owe a great deal to that denomination for its initial planting of the seeds of truth. God bless you sir or madam, since your moniker doesn't really convey either. Good night.

"....if the LORD provides opportunity for me to join a Christian Society, I will do it in a heartbeat."

How about the Church for starters?

Dr. Phil,
One hardly knows where to begin to answer such pronounced isogesis. I'll try my best. To your unique interpretation of John chapter 8 I have this to say; Jesus asked her, "Woman, where are they? Has NO ONE CONDEMNED YOU?"(my emphasis) To which her reply was, "No one sir." To which his reply was, "THEN NEITHER DO I CONDEMN YOU, go now and leave your life of sin." Compassion first, the imperative second. Jesus always ministered this way. One has to exert tremendous imagination to visualize the gospel ever sounding like good news when coming from your lips. But your commentary was puerile enough to keep me reading. Now to my original point: Yes, I suggested instead of pointing a Pharisaical finger or boycotting to exhibit the biblical standard why not exercise some compassion and discernment and in the priestly role for which we have been called offer intercession, mediation, and ministry to a lost world. Conversely, the only condemnation Jesus ever pronounced was on those who said they knew the law yet refused to adhere to its weightier demands. Jesus claimed that the Father desired loyalty over sacrifice, that love for God and love for one's neighbor encompassed the whole law.

Faithful Remnant,
I am not collectively accusing the church but stating what you yourself have pointed out; clearly there is an ineffective evangelism to the homosexual.

What precedent? For starters how we treat homosexuals as the worst of sinners. I don't think you and I disagree for the most part seeing that you "have no problem befriending sinners." The problem is that you would be the exception and not the rule. And that is my contention here. The original comment had to do with how ridiculous I think boycotts are in making a statement and how counterproductive it is to our evangelism. For this I was confronted and accused of licentious papal doctrine. (How about that Moderator?)

I think God is the final authority not the Apostles. I could be wrong. Paul said God gave men over because they suppressed the truth in unrighteousness. This applies to all mankind not only homosexuals.

Moderator Alpha,
No, apparently it's up to you. I answered Phil honestly and respectfully and you still removed the post. This can't be just about my so called abusive language? Just remove this post if you agree.

Faithful Remnant,
I'm just as sure that He didn't condone your sin either. He not only forgave your sin it was also His kindness that led you to repent. And He can also forgive their sin and lead them to repentance through your kindness. I am curious, though, if the two homosexuals would consider you their friend. I've never once said to condone a person's sin. Not once. But the church has not reacted to this particular sin in any rational or compassionate way. The challenge I put before Neil and now you is to show me where this was the precedent set by our beautiful Savior?

Christ continually contended with those religious leaders who professed to know the scripture backward and forward. They accused him of being a friend of sinners and for being a glutton and a drunkard. They resisted him, rejected him and finally had him murdered because he opposed their piety and lack of loyalty to God and because they were jealous. He warned his followers not to listen to their teaching or to follow their ways. There isn't enough space here to argue with the scripture because the scriptures are replete with examples. The challenge I put to you is to show me where Jesus ever stood against the sinner. Quite the contrary He had great compassion on them. Try as you might and convince me he actually stoned the adulteress when actually he defended her to her accusers. He didn't need to tell her something she was already fully aware of. And I don't need to convince you. I do have a question for you though. What is it exactly that you are so put off with by treating a homosexual the way you'd want to be treated. Are you any less a sinner?

So, what you're saying then is that the OT is obsolete?

It's ironic to me then that the NT came out of the OT.
