Nothing new here! How many political analysts say Romney lost because many evangelical Christians refused to vote for him? How many people refused to vote for JFK because he was Catholic?
I am connecting the dots--Cuba-not Catholic but mixed with African religions--drums!
This reminds me of what a Cuban baptist pastor told me about drums being an instrument of the devil! I thought he was out of his gourd, at the time. But recently I happened upon a TV news story about Cuban drums and how they are used in the Santeria religion that the previous post mentions. More study should be made of this connection; if so, many churches need to review their musical styles and instruments.
“ Right ON! ” Thanks for adding the comment about changing the color of the carpet or the times of the services. These trivial changes can really upset people who have been coming to a church for so long that many view them as "pillars of the church" when in reality, all they have been doing is taking up a seat, without making any financial contribution to even pay for the lights and heating and air conditioning. The church deacons should calculate these costs and post it in the bulletin or at the entrance to the building!
I've heard one pastor say that, if everyone was 'on social security' and gave ten percent of that, he would have a larger budget than what he had at that time.
If there was a 20 percent off sale at the local store, it would be mobbed with people seeking bargains. No different here--it's a good time to buy those stocks that you thought were too high before. As to the Jewish customs, I remember reading somewhere that surveys taken in the US show that a good third of Jews do not believe in God! And the modern country of Israel is a very secular state, even liberal by many American conservative standards. What moves many American evangelicals to support the modern state of Israel is the teaching of dispensationalism, thanks in part to Scofield's Bible and John Darby.
Latest news is that deaths from vehicles have gone up, so the past comments about outlawing autos and motorcycles have hit the mark. How many other things encourage violent behavior? How about violent movies and TV shows?
