V2 Goes on to identify "many" who shall follow the false teachers, they were not purchased by Christ either. English comprehension can so easily be marred by doctrinal error.

If that were the case the text could simply have read "denying the Lord that bought YOU", or if a more general reference was required the author could even have written "denying the Lord that bought the CHURCH".
