"The Bible declares that we who are saved are predestinated to be conformed to the image of God's Son." "The main problem with many of today's Calvinists is that they think to be saved without doing anything, nor obeying the teaching of Jesus Christ." Can you give examples of ministries on sermonaudio? "The Pharisees were of a similar ilk in Jesus day. This is why many of the Reformed today are so heartless and unloving. Calvinists do not care either way" Examples of any Pastors or churches? As a woman who desires to conform to the bible, feminisim is far from being a desire of mine. The bible clearly shows woman are not to have authority over men, why would we ever want to go against God's design? It's sad when women are leaving their role as a mother and pursuing a man's calling |

Obvious Truth,It is you who is the whited sepulchre who despises the righteousness of Christ and exalts self-righteousness. You deny the power of God unto salvation by His grace and the work of the Holy Spirit in the believer's life who sanctifies the children of God unto holiness. You deny that a true Christian is justified by grace through the redemption in Christ. "Being JUSTIFIED FREELY BY HIS GRACE through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:" (Romans 3:24) You deny that when God has begun a good work HE WILL perform unto until the day of Christ. "Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:" (Philippians 1:6) You deny the very Word of God and have taken the power of God out and replaced it with the short comings of depraved, fallen and sinful human effort that will NEVER meet up to God's standards of righteousness and holiness. Our righteousness is filthy rags in the sight of God. "For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth." (Romans 10:3-4) |

Obvious Truth, You are obviously wrong. You said, "I can think of a few, ones who boast of being "snow covered dung," who condemn people who try to live for God as though they were doing an evil thing, not trusting in Jesus." That is a very evil way of speaking of what Christ has done for His people to call it "snow covered dung", for nothing can exceed the glorious righteouness of Christ imputed to them. However it is a similar analogy that Christ gave to the self-righteous who He termed whited sepulchres. Christ said, "Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness." But also of the scribes and Pharisees he spoke of their righteousness, "For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven." It is Christ's righteousness that can exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees. Paul states in Romans 10:3,4 "For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. For Christ..." |

Abigail,The child of God WILL produce good works by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit and not otherwise, but only after justification. You said, "The Word of God states that we are not justified by faith alone without works." James 2:24 says, "Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only." Here James describes a man who is truly justified and the effects are not faith only but good works also. This interpretation agrees with the rest of Scripture. The Scriptures emphatically state: "Knowing that a man is NOT JUSTIFIED BY THE WORKS OF THE LAW, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be JUSTIFIED BY THE FAITH OF CHRIST, and NOT BY THE WORKS OF THE LAW: FOR BY THE WORKS OF THE LAW SHALL NO FLESH BE JUSTIFIED." (Galatians 2:16) "Being JUSTIFIED FREELY BY HIS GRACE through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:" (Romans 3:24) "For if Abraham were JUSTIFIED BY WORKS, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God." (Romans 4:2) "And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God." (1Corinthians 6:11) etc... |

Abigail,In reference to James 2:24-26, You asked the question, "Do these Scriptures have no value?" Yes, they do have value for they are the Word of God. John Gill comments on James 2:24 "Ye see then how that by works a man is justified,.... Not as causes procuring his justification, but as effects declaring it; for the best works are imperfect, and cannot be a righteousness justifying in the sight of God, and are unprofitable in this respect; for when they are performed in the best manner, they are no other than what it is a man's duty to perform, and therefore cannot justify from sin he has committed: and besides, justification in this sense would frustrate the grace of God, make void the death of Christ, and encourage boasting in men. Good works do not go before justification as causes or conditions, but follow it as fruits and effects:" The Scriptures declare that the child of God is justified by grace and not by the works of the law as was previously quoted. Does James contradict Paul? The answer is no. James describes the evidences of grace in an individual with true faith given of God who has be justified and these evidences are demonstrated through good works. Why do you neglect the doctrine of sanctification that comes after justification? |

Abigail,When one is justified in Christ through His shed blood and imputed righteousness, what is the purpose of sanctification and mortification in the Christian's life? You said, "We are not SAVED OR DAMNED until we are judged according to our works and receive the verdict—"Enter into the joys of the Lord." Or "Depart from me, ye cursed!" The Scriptures state that we are not justified by works. Galatians 2:16 "Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified." Romans 3:24 "Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:" |

On the topic of mortification from Romans 8 John Owen comments,"The principal efficient cause of the performance of this duty [mortification] is the Spirit:“If by the Spirit.” The Spirit here is the Spirit mentioned verse 11, the Spirit of Christ, the Spirit of God, that “dwells in us,” verse 9, that “quickens us,” verse 11; “the Holy Ghost,” verse 14; the “Spirit of adoption,” verse 15; the Spirit “that maketh intercession for us,” verse 26. All other ways of mortification are vain, all helps leave us helpless; it must be done by the Spirit. Men, as the apostle intimates, Romans 9:30-32, may attempt this work on other principles, by means and advantages administered on other accounts, as they always have done, and do: but, saith he, “This is the work of the Spirit; by him alone is it to be wrought, and by no other power is it to be brought about.” Mortification from a self-strength, carried on by ways of self-invention, unto the end of a self-righteousness, is the soul and substance of all false religion in the world. And this is a second principle of my ensuing discourse." |

The differences between justification and sanctification:"1. In Justification, God loves us, and shows his love in Christ; in sanctification we love God, and show our love to him: for the sum of active holiness is love, which is the fulfilling of the law. 2. In justification, we have the favour of God; in sanctification, we have the image of God and the special part of his image is love. 3. In justification, we are passive, as when God set his love upon us; but in sanctification, we are active, while his love causes us to act in loving him. 4. Justification is God's act of love without us, in and through the merit and righteousness of Christ imputed to us; sanctification is God's work of grace within us, by the Spirit of Christ imparted to us as a Spirit of love, as well as of other graces. 5. Justification is perfect, equal, and always the same, like the love of God the original cause, and the righteousness of Christ the meritorious cause of it; but sanctification is imperfect, unequal, and changeable, for the love of the saints is up and down. 6. Justification is the cause, sanctification is the effect; even as God's love is the cause of our love." Ralph Erskine |

Abigail,In all your comments I have observed that they are lacking something and I have discovered what it is. You place the power of salvation in the sinners hand to change and conform to the ways of God, however the Scriptures state the opposite. Salvation is solely by the power of God in Christ Jesus and it is God who gives His people a new heart with new desires to seek righteousness and follow after holiness. Salvation is conditioned in Christ alone and not our faith and repentance. These are but gifts from God that are part and parcel of the new birth. Romans 3:10-11 "As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God." |

Hop, (Just saw your comment Abigail, so by answering Hop I hope this answers your objection as well.)I disagree with your comment. I don't believe in free will salvation by us mere sinful mortals allowing the Holy Spirit to control our lives. The Scriptures teach irresisible grace when those in sin were not seeking God, but God by His grace changed their lives and made them new creatures in Christ Jesus whom He had chosen before the foundation of the world, through the regenerating power of the Holy Spirit. Ephesians 1:4-5 "According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will" Notice: "that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:" This does not say that we should continue in sin, but that we should be HOLY. John 1:12-13 "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God." |

Abigail,You stated, "If we do not allow the Spirit to have control of our lives, we are not saved." Salvation is not depended upon us allowing the Spirit to control our lives. If we are the Lord's the Spirit will make us new creatures in Christ Jesus, justified through the imputed righteosness of Christ and sanctified by the Spirit, being led of Him in the paths of righteousness. Psalm 23:3 "He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake." 2 Thessalonians 2:13 "But we are bound to give thanks always to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:" I would agree that there are professed Christians that teach a warped "all grace" and use this as an excuse to live very sinful and worldly lives. If that is the case they are not the Lord's to begin with and they have not been born again of the Spirit because there is no fruit. An evidence of salvation in the children of God are good works, although they are not saved by them it becomes manifest through sanctification unto holiness. James 2:17 "Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone." |
