Helpful, thought-provoking sermon! At last, a practical 'picture' of the church ! Thank you.
These 3 messages on Discipleship are packed full of useful questions and suggestions to spur us on in these most vital aspects of living out the Gospel and making disciples.
I fear we may have lost our focus, amid the clamour for more and better 'sermons and academics '.
Great Sermon! Some really useful teaching in this short series on Discipleship - it's vital importance as part of the Great Commission, and how it works out practically in the Church.
Vital Truth! Beloved, we must beware last we lean on any merit other than Christ's.
Thank you brother, for setting before us once again the pure Gospel message. We cannot hear it often enough amid the mangled & confused jangle of other gospels all around us.
True Rest for our souls. I listened as suggested by the friends, but didn't find clear Scriptural support.
Gavin himself said that God is the only One eligible to authorise or change a day, so dear friends, how can you say that the day is continuing - and changed, both at the same time?
This was an opportunity to state the particular interpretation of Reformed Theology for this subject. That is fine for those who wish to go that road. Those conclusions can only be arrived at by applying that system of theology,
and charity must allow for those who take at face value Christ's own words..that worship is now in spirit and truth, and not in place or day etc, Christ Himself being the ultimate fulfilment of every Word of Scripture.
So, may Christ be the One Object and the goal of all our studies and contemplations.
While our focus is on the details of days 'how to' etc etc....it is off Him! Only He can give us the rest which our sin-sick souls require. Let us be glad in Him!
Powerful Preaching from 1652! Thank you for bringing to light this radical Parliamentarian and powerful preacher from the 17thC. - especially this sermon on a vital subject not often enough preached on today - The Crucified and Quickened Christian.
" 'True faith is a greater matter than most are aware of....it is more than assent..we are truly made one with the Son of the living God....a most high and precious grace...the greatest and highest worship of God..the first grace whereby we have entrance into the kingdom of God.'
Dell gets to the heart of the Gospel. Oh for men like Dell to...preach us into Christ, and Christ into us! I have no doubt but that this sort of preaching will prove saving for sinners and sanctifying for saints...a sovereign elixir.. God's appointed way of dealing with both. Above all it will glorify God for purposing so great a salvation for us helpless, ruined and polluted sinners, for accomplishing it through the work of such a glorious Saviour, and for applying it to us so freely and graciously by the power of the sovereign Holy Spirit.
May we know, and love, and feel what it is to be united to Christ
! Above all, may we live in the good of it."
Excellent Series. Excellent exposition on the substance of 1 Thessalonians, in a series of short - 20 min - messages.
It is sad, and worse, that we have digressed so far from the type of church -life that we find in Scripture. Do we really have any right to tamper with the mandate and pattern so clearly laid down for us?
Great Sermon! There's nothing so sweet to a believer's or to a convicted sinner's ear as this glorious Gospel....
Another heart-warming and Christ-exalting message .....
"My heart is full of Christ and longs
It's glorious matter to declare.."
"I determined to know nothing among you, save Jesus Christ.."
Thank you brother.
Take heed.... Some important illustrations and lessons from our faithful teaching friend and brother here....
Have we in any way forsaken the only Fountain...and hewn out our own system?
(For those who already attempted to listen and found a technical hitch, all is well now.)
God has yet more light..... Thank you brother, for your painstakingly careful and honest examination of Scripture for us in these 3 expositions regarding the Headcovering. There are few today who are prepared to lay aside the popular and comfortable systems and interpretations of men,and especially their own long-held views, and really...'let God be true...' You have set this issue in its proper context and like many other Scriptures, we glean valuable lessons from it. Our outward appearance before men ought to bear testimony to the Gospel, but it is our hearts that bear testimony to God...not primarily our outward acts. It is true, we do not obey the Holy Kiss injunction...why? Also,
has anyone else noticed that in 1 Corinthians 14:28 men are also to keep silence in the church. This would appear to mean that silence = not speaking out of turn and inappropriately..as also in 1Timothy 2:11&12. These are not forbidding the spiritual exercises of prayer and prophecy but upholding headship, order and decency in life and worship

They do if you are a Biblical Calvinist Mike.
They don't if you want mans free will to be superior to God's will.
In Biblical Calvinism God is first cause.
In Free willism man takes priority over God and Christ.
Btw Mike 2Tim 3:3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good," Note the "incontinent" accusation of Paul here. The meaning is lack of control or lack of restraint. This teaches that before saved the sinner in his natural estate couldn't possible have free will.
Another interesting one in this list is "false accuser" - The Greek word her is actually "diabolos" ie a devil.
These devils with zero restraint couldn't possibly have a will free from external controls such as sin and Satan.
