**Faith and Election."In connection with election Calvin fully recognizes that this election was in Christ. Nothing, however, could be more remote from Calvin’s thought than to suppose that this fact in the least interferes with the pure sovereignty and particularism of the election itself. On the contrary, he says expressly that this is the confirmation that “the election is free; for if we were chosen in Christ, it is not of ourselves.” And the practical import for us of this truth is that no one should seek confidence in his own election anywhere else than in Christ. “Christ, therefore, is both the clear glass in which we are called upon to behold the eternal and hidden election of God, and also the earnest and pledge.” Referring to John 17:6, he says, “We see here that God begins with himself (a se ipso), when he condescends to elect us: but he will have us to begin with Christ in order that we may know that we are reckoned among that peculiar people.” “Election, indeed, is prior to faith, but it is learned by faith.”" (John Murray) |

1Cor 15:10 "But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me." Grace is defined as "The undeserved blessing freely bestowed on man by God" In this verse Paul insists that whom he is can only be ascribed to grace alone, and clearly rejects any ability or faculty of his own. Thus nothing merited in Paul made him the servant of God. Paul even ascribes all his labour and effort to grace, therefore to God, rather than concede to any human input. Eph 2:8 "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. 10 For we are his workmanship" Here again Paul illustrates the complete rejection of human input and effort. "gift of God" - "Not of Works" and "His (God's) workmanship" How then do the Arminians on the site JD, Yamil, Abigail, etc - dare to steal from God, in their works based religion, that which is clearly and solely of divine source. Lets hope and pray that in 2008 they may be brought to the Truth. |
