"In closing, it is very significant to note that, aside from various cult groups over the ages (i.e. Montanism, Mormonism, etc.), tongues and prophecy were not recognized by anyone in the history of the orthodox Christian Church as continuing. It was not until the early part of this century (20th) that they “made a comeback” in mainstream Christendom with the Pentecostal Movement and gained popularity in the 1960s with the Charismatic Movement. It is also significant that the vast majority of those who claim to possess these gifts today are grossly ignorant of the most basic doctrines of Scripture and are, in many cases, proponents of outright heresy which denies Christ (i.e. adherents to the Faith Movement, the Manifest Sons of God, etc.). As a whole, modern Charismatics are guilty of willfully rejecting the Word of God in favor of “ear-tickling” false prophets. Does it not seem strange, in light of how God dealt with the Jews for this very same sin in A.D. 70, that He would choose to “pour out His Spirit” upon such rebellious people today via tongues and prophecy, while failing to give such “blessings” to those in the Reformed faith who have remained true to His Word and faithful to His covenant?"]]G.L.Durand |

In connection with this article, I would commend to your reading the heartfelt exhortation given by Ivan Foster, former Senior Pastor of Kilskeery Free Presbyterian Church expressed in his article written January 10, 2009 . . . entitled: Ignoring sin . . . no basis for blessing! A plea to Free Presbyterians here: ]]http://www.ivanfoster.net/pdf/Jan0901.pdf Excerpt: "It has been felt by some, I fear, that the divisive events of recent years are best dealt with by ignoring them and simply acting as if the tragic series of events that began in 2006 and which saw men turn their former views and commitments on their heads, never took place. Such are the foolish notions of those who wish for peace and unity and feel that it may be obtained at the expense of truth. Furthermore, such folly, it is believed, it will lead on to revival and blessing. Whatever God in His sovereign mercy may bestow upon His beloved people in Ulster, it will not be because of such actions. Rather it will be despite such stupidity. God does not ignore sin even though we may do so. The events in 2 Samuel 21:1- 14 are recorded to teach us this lesson." |

Kilsally said: "I`m not quite sure what your point is . ." Perhaps what Ehud said in a prior post will end your confusion: "Had they been consistent in their approach then a degree of credence could be attached to their standard. Now their trumpet cannot even make any sound due the glaring hole of hypocracy allowing all hot air to escape. The bible speaks clearly on Sodomy as well as lying, murder, false prophets, idle shepherds and hirlings. The fpc cannot be selective about sin they have not set their house in order hence ichabod.” I might also suggest if you need further clarification, that you carefully read all the articles cited in prior posts written by Ivan Foster, FPC Gospel Minister . . now retired! They are pretty straightforward! |
