Alcohol is a great evil in our society today and while the Scriptures are clear that the sin is not necessarily the drink itself but the excess to which it is taken I believe we are warned not to be a stumbling block to others and to shun the very appearance of evil. Meeting people where they are at is not about joining them in their pleasure of sinning. I know of many today who are far from God who at one time were close to the Kingdom but their so called Christian friends told them it was okay to take a pint just one, well maybe two and so began their journey into alcohol abuse. Dear Christian remember you will still stand before God you will not loose your salvation but you could loose your reward!
Atheists themselves don't think much of Mr Atwill as I recently found out after reading posts on a Facebook page set up by a secular humanist group. They state that the so called evidence produced by Atwill is totally false and easily disproved although many wished his claims were true. Leaves me wondering who is left to read his rubbish. Perhaps fellow Christians whose faith isn't as strong as it should be.
Although Satan is described as a roaring lion praise God we know he is a defeated foe. These secular groups are doing the work of the one they serve while dead in their sin and deserving of Hell. Yet for Christ's sake and His glory alone we should pray while there is still time that the Holy Spirit would work in their hearts and open their eyes and convict them of their sin.
To Psalms Only: I read about this a couple of weeks ago on Keith and Kristyn Getty's Facebook page and the issue was definitely about God's wrath being poured out on Christ. In this particular article the Presbyterian Committee are trying to muddy the waters a little by shifting the emphasis to the word satisfied. When Christ said on the cross it is finished He can only come before a Holy God through Christ. The scriptures talk about being accepted in the beloved.
The hymn was dropped because of the reference to God's wrath. These folks don't like the idea of a God who cannot tolerate sin and who one day soon will pour out His wrath on this world with the exception of those who by grace alone, through faith alone in Christ alone have had their sins forgiven. These are the people who peddle the lie that a loving God won't send anyone to Hell! So the issue is God's wrath not the word "satisfied"
Consummate! I believe this sermon would be very well received by many. And absolutely a pill easy to swallow but has great effects for those whom are wanting a greater depth of love and obedience to God the Father through His Son.
