Chris000 you said exactly as I and my husband have felt many times! Thank you! I sometimes wonder if the ones who have gone through the fires of trial and tribulation that have a better understanding of the Scriptures relating to how we are to respond and live such as Matt 7:12
Fervent debate? Yes. Contend for the faith? Yes. Calvinism? Yes. King James Version? Yes. Misreading and taking out of context what people say on these forums to attack or malign them? Absolutely not acceptable! It would be good to review some basic Scriptures on the Fruit of the Spirit, the "love" chapter in 1 Corinthians, and probably some of Jesus' teachings like the Beattitudes
Any of you ever watch the movie made by Mark IV Pictures, "Witcome's War"? There's a part where they're arguing using Scripture and throughout the movie the Enemy uses their differences to divide them and keep them from being effective for the Kingdom. It's way outdated and a bit corny but totally timeless in its message.
Thanks, Backwoods. It comes from being on both ends of the debate: the person whose doctrine and theology wasn't always so sound and made to feel like the enemy and stupid for it and the one who belittled others when they didn't go along with my trying to force them to accept and believe the truth when I was not being very Christlike in my approach. Neither side is a good place to be. Thanks be to Jesus for His infinite patience and loving correction in my life!
My husband and I read these comments periodically and some of them are very insightful. Others, though, are embarrassingly rude and disrespectful. If I were an unbeliever and read how some of you talk about or to each other it would confirm why I wouldn't want to become a Christian. I seem to remember a verse in the Bible that talks about not biting and devouring one another... you all seem intelligent and I've enjoyed the debates and definitely the humor, but it would be great if you would keep the scathing remarks, name calling, and disrespect out of these discussions. I understand passionate feelings and wanting to get others to see the truth but it's better to pray for these people and treat them with respect than to demean them.
Actually, President Obama told the Egyptian Foreign Minister several years ago that he is a Muslim. He also stumbled in an interview here in the U.S. and said, "my Muslim faith"...he seems very offended that anyone would make an insulting comment against Isam...
Great Sermon! I was challenged by the sermon. I very often get occupied with other things. But I am reminded that I am to consistant feed( I am to read the bible in order that I will understand more about the Lord Jesus Christ and that I will grow day by day.
Great Sermon! struggle with some of the theology, he contends that the Judaism certain people want to continue is one separate from the O.T,(the one mentioned to which Peter responds), yet this before oral tradition was properly written down as was mentioned in a previous sermon, therefore it seems the Judaism those people speak of is the Judaism they and the disciples and Jesus, incidentally, grew up with, the heart of the Old Testament! Maybe Asher NOrman is not reading the right Bible and oral tradition is not rooted in the Old testament but I am sure it is likely that he has spent time in Exodus where a lot of oral tradition is based on. If Judaism is so removed from the Old Testament, why and what are all these laws about that God gave the Jewish , yes Jewish people in Exodus and similar books? because they are certainly not Christianity. Several books are devoted to these laws, and I contend they are what is referred to when people allude to them in the New Testament. I contend that while Jesus may have disagreed with points of oral law, it did not mean he disagreed and did not keep it, as evidenced by his knowledge and keeping of it in other parts of Bible. I post this with total respect to the preacher and Christianity, sincere and well intentioned,bt pls understand judaism better...:(
Dear Brimstone, Get a life ! What are the odds that a professional Rugby player puts his neck out in the public eye and stands up for Christian values and all you want to moan about is that he is a part of the C of S!! More than likely it is a Evangelical Church so stop acting like Scrooge and show some Christian spirit.
