Duh,
It appears MBL thinks that only the Apostles had these gifts, but according to the scriptural record, speaking in tongues was not limited to them nor would it be in the future according to their testimony and that of Jesus Himself.

Duh,
I have a Bible which I read often, the New Testament at least once a year. It gives me plenty of education.

John Yurich,
You need to repent and recieve Christ as Savior in the manner He ordained. Maybe then GG will believe you.

Duh,
Logic tells me, from the Cessasionists' adamancy, it should be in there. It isn't. Another thing, it wasn't just the Apostles which had the gifts as you claim. That's a big problem there.

It's not the Babblers that get sensational. Quite to the contrary, it's the critics. Since they are the ones all upset and saying "Ya can't do that, the last Apostle took those to the grave with him," well, present the Bible evidence.

Lurker, considering the number of verses you posted, have you come across that one which records that the last Apostle of the Lord died and took speaking in tongues to the grave with him forever? Cessasionists are so adamant about that, surely it's gotta be in there somewhere .

Wow, that's a lot of weaving there, Lurker to try and make a point. Are you sure you got it all together correctly? God is able to make people speak other languages today as easily as back on that Pentecost gathering, if it be his will, because the gifts are given according to His will(this kinda renders both Pentecostals and Cessasionists as rather helpless, one believing Initial Evidence and not much discernment, the other at the opposite end saying it's all over..or worse). I'm still awaiting the cessasionists' favorite passage which states when the last Apostle died and how he took speaking in tongues to the grave forever. The other person I hope to meet one day is one who speaks every language fluently, so we'll know just how much of this is just gibberish. Still no takers, and it's going to be a long time. Thankfully I have a Bible by which I can determine the authenticity of a message given in some other language and interpreted. If it contradicts, away with the message, but not the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

That's cool, Mike...I mean your position on speaking in tongues. I agree with the position of "tongues" and "languages"(How could I deny this, being a student of languages. Interesting note: the word for language and tongue in French is: langue). Although I suppose the weather and the ice on everything is "cool," unless you don't like working in it or end up with a crashed car or worse.

The true religion which once captivated Germany and much of Europe needs to again be revived: The Christianity of an open and literal Bible, because when that message is believed, a peace "which passeth understanding" dwells in the believers.

Mike,
How are you this fine evening? Are you ice skating back there now? Sorry to hear about all the problems with the ice storm. Good point about discernment.
Well, if a particular sect of Pentecostals is right, a large part of professing Christians isn't really going to heaven. On the other hand this study proves them and all the others of the Initial Evidence Of Tongues Doctrine wrong. However, it certainly can't nulify the Bible's testimony that people will speak in tongues and that they are real.

Albert, you in the question-asking mood again and not getting biblical answers? Same with me....I've asked a few times for the non-babblers to show me in the Bible the date or time period in which tongues ceased or permits them to now be forbidden or says they are false and of the devil.....and I'm still waiting. Maybe you have the answer . As for the drinking poison and picking up snakes, I'd say those churches are not scriptural. Jesus didn't command such activity and we don't see the Apostles or Christians of the New Testament behaving in such manner. Those snake handling churches are just wrong, but that doesn't nulify the validity of gifts of the Holy Spirit today. Did you find the scripture with the date speaking in tongues ceased? Or the scripture which says such events went into a tomb with the last Apostle? I'm wondering who's really on shaky ground.

The WCC is not the answer to the problems of divisions in the visible church. It seems it more often than not produces adulterous congregations: pastors and "believers" who doubt what an open Bible says plainly.

Adulterous generation. But so many want to do away with "backward" traditions and embrace "change," and look at the resulting garbage

Good point Hank, about prayer recital. It's similar to the Islamic way of conversion: reciting some words about Allah and Mohammed.

Yes, Chris, winter has finally arrived in the statistically coldest month of the year here(I noted the approximate temperature in one of my other posts below).....Finally! Hot summers, cold winters; it's a perfect example of a continental climate and I think it's great. A friend of mine in Estonia said they've had the warmest winter in 150 years, so maybe global warming is making a more intense visit over there.

Good try, Jim, but What about all those works Jesus talks about? Caring for the poor? etc....God destroying those who destroy the earth...and on and on.... Nice tradition you've got there .

Lack of apparent "holiness" is quite prevalent among your fellow followers of the cessasionist-prohibitionis theory as well. While on the topic of cessasionism, anybody come up with the date in the Bible when the tongues ceased? However, I do agree that sancitification and holiness are evaporating on the back burner...something early pentecostals would abhor.

It depends on whether it is mythical or not, Chris. Time will tell. I suppose they no longer need to waste oxygen, but that also goes for many industrial processes as well.

Walking, talking, and saying the sinners' prayer may be a great demonstration of coordination, but they don't appear to get anybody's butt saved; lots of lip service, but that's about all. Jesus and the Apostles talked much about repentance, baptism, confession, etc, but were absolutely silent on conducting altar calls and sinners prayers.

DB,
In parts of Louisiana there are a number of "Zion Traveler Baptist Church" congregations. Do you know much about them? Just figure I'd ask, since I think you are more a Cajun home-grown expert than I am (I was a trasplant )
