If this is enforced on Bible believing churches, it will result in the persecution of Christians. We will be deemed "intolerant" for declaring that Jesus is the only way.

I am not a seventh day Adventist. The position I hold is the historical Protestant position. It is a truly Reformed position. I do not hold it as a thing indifferent, as I find it in scripture to be a moral issue.

The whole Law is summed up in loving God with all our hearts, should, strength, and loving our neighbor as ourselves. Keeping the Sabbath is a part of that.

In conclusion, reading the creeds should answer a lot of questions. You may disagree with it, but it articulates the Protestant position.

Part 2

Regarding Hebrews I agree, it is speaking of our Lord. Yet that does not nullify the other Scriptures, which we would all well agree. We see by apostolic example the apostles and believers meeting on the first day of the week. What biblical justification you ask do I have? Apostolic example. And I would suppose that most Christians are having their gatherings on Sunday for the same reason and we call it the Lord's Day because of Rev 1:10. Long before a papal Antichrist the saints of God celebrated our risen Lord on His day.

So, you see that I find in the Law and the Prophets, and the example practiced by the Apostles, ample reason to conclude as the confessions do. Add to this the practice of true Christian churches for centuries, and we should find ourselves in quite the minority if we reject the Christian Sabbath.

Hey Servant -

Yes, Atlanta traffic was bad today. I would gladly show the reasons from Scripture, but this comment section is not really a good place for that. I rarely comment here, but because the Sabbath is fallen in disrepute in our generation, I felt compelled to say something.

Creeds, my brother, are a wonderful thing. If you look at the WCF or LBCF you will see what it is they believe the Scriptures teach and give their references. Look them up and judge for yourself if they be true to the Word.

I don't find a Scripture that says "God is Triune" yet this fact appears plainly in Scripture. Nor do we find the text saying "The Sabbath is now Sunday" but we see the fact exampled. And that is the thing, isn't it. Nothing in Scripture remotely suggests that only 9 commandments remain. Who am I to remove one? So you say show me a text that moves the day. Show me a text the removes the day.

God has from the beginning ordained one day in seven for His worship. This is before the covenant with Moses and continues still as it is a moral Law not civil. It is immoral to not honor the Sabbath and keep it holy to the Lord. And how very far short I do fall.

My comments do not seem to be getting posted. If it doesn't make it, the Lord's will be done.

Mike -

Because Jesus is Lord, He has the right to change the day. I believe He did and that this is the teaching of the Scriptures, as articulated in the historical creeds.

We do not hold creeds above the Bible, we hold them because we believe they are accurate to the Bible.

No, we should not assume that. The clear example from Scripture is the Christians worshipped, gave, took the Lord's Table, et. on the first day of the week, or Sunday, which we call the Lord's Day. This is the day we honor as the Christian Sabbath. If you would like a reference to the historical Protestant position on this, look at the Westminster Confession or the 1689 London Baptist Confession or other historical creeds.

Indeed James, but certainly 2 Cor is not set against the Law of God! The Scriptures do not teach lawlessness, they teach obedience. We know that righteousness is through faith in Jesus Christ, it is His righteousness imputed to the believer apart from the Law that justifies. But that doesn't permit lawlessness. Rather, those whom God has justified He also sanctifies. A justification without sanctification is not the salvation the Lord gives.

Furthermore, the Lord didn't come to abolish the Law, but rather to write it upon our hearts. Do not be deceived. Without holiness no man will see the Lord. The one who says he loves Jesus but doesn't do what He says is a liar and does not practice the truth. How can we call Him Lord and not do what He says?

Do not conflate justification with sanctification. And do not supposed that you are justified by His grace if you are not being sanctified by His Spirit.

Also, consider this... As we look through the Scriptures and see the Lord and His disciples healing on the Sabbath, picking heads of grain on the Sabbath, et. we do not see the Lord explaining these actions in the context of suggesting the Sabbath is not moral or abolished. Rather, we see the Lord challenging the teaches of His day what it actually meant.

The Pharisees and Saudecees added their own commandments and requirements to God's Law. The picture that comes to mind is like finding a sword that has been underwater for a long time and has barnacles covering it. The Lord's actions and teaching on the Sabbath removed the barnacles, not abolish the sword. The Lord did not come to destroy the Law and the Prophets, but to fulfill them.

Dave -

I understand the evangelicals response to the Christian sabbath. By and large the churches are uninformed to not only what scripture teaches but also what has been held by churches for centuries. The Lord did not break the 4th commandment any more than he broke any of God's Law. It is no more right for a believer to murder than be a Sabbath breaker. We cannot bifurcate the moral law of God.

I have looked thoroughly through the Scriptures, Colossians and the rest of the Scriptures. I have come to the same conclusion as many, many others on the matter.

The Sabbath Day is not a ceremonial aspect of God's Law. It is eternal moral Law.

This is where I would disagree emphatically with evangelicals. A Christian sabbath is not tradition. It is the commandment of God. You say it's ok to break the sabbath? It's ok to break the 4th commandment? Is it also ok to break the 1st? Or any of God's commandments? Brethren, do not teach lawlessness.

Chris -

Prophecy hasn't always been an easy subject for me. I am curious what prophecy you see being fulfilled with these happenings. Please note, this is a real question. lol some people ask questions to debate their points. I am really asking.

“ Great Sermon! ”
Wow. Really great sermon. Thanks Mr Washer. Wish there was more preachers like this in South Africa. Seems people will rather hear how great they are instead of hearing how great God is. Sad

And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.

Nothing about the glory of Christ, nothing about redemption, nothing about being delivered from the wrath to come. Maybe the article just didn't report that... May the Lord Jeaus have mercy on them.

Are these Syriac Othrodox Christians those who forge images and how to them like the papists? Do they venerate images and craft idols of silver and gold and bow themselves before and burn incense at altars made to them? Do they offer prayer to saints rather than to God alone?

If so, do we wonder why the Lord stirs a people with fury to smash their idolatry they take up in His Name?
