I believe that St Peter makes reference to "being in Babylon" (code for Rome), well of all the cities of the then known world, which other place could be that wicked or powerful. I know...it was 'Cut & Shoot' Texas.
What's really interesting and instructive, is that 'Pew View' never mentions his doubts about the other two Churches. I WONDER WHY? 'Pew View' is the typical produce of 500 years of Protestant, knee-jerk prejudice and hate. Perhaps the Govt of Eritrea is afraid of 'Chapping-off' the Lord's True Church? No wonder "Pew View's" view stinks to Heaven.
Where does the bible say that a man can unjustly accuse other innocent men and women, Christians who only wish to follow their Savior, because of some grudge that should have been forgiven long ago. This assumes that you are capable of forgiveness TLC!
"THE BEAST...SHALL ASCEND OUT OF THE BOTTOMLESS PIT and vomit his lies into Tony's ear and Tony will repeat them ad nausiam.
I find it curious that the very people who constantly harang me with that old refrain, "If it's not in the bible is isn't true", have swallowed this Nun's Memoir without even batting an eyelash. Don't you at least want to find out if it's true? No, of course you don't. This is because it supports your favorite bigotry. Namely, that anything from the Church that existed and preached the Gospel, when your ancestors ran around in loin cloths and howled at the moon, must be perverted. How little you know. Anyone who claims to have a sixth sense about whether another person is "regenerated" is channeling Jim Jones. Jim, look in any dictionary, Catholicism has always been considered Christian. What a pity you haven't made it yet. Here are some facts: 1-When Lance said that Masses are reoffering "THE ONE" sacrifice, he meant the "ONE and ONLY", Original, death of Jesus Christ is re-presented in its originality, every day from Jesus' death throughout history. 2-DJC49: May I remind you that not every priest has been accused of wrong doing. Even the bible requires two witnesses to crime, and in the USA we say, "a man is innocent until proven guilty". I have never met a priest nor a nun that wasn't an excellent, unstanding person.I will not let you assassinate their character. -contin
DJC49: I sorry, am I acting godlike here by pointing out....the truth? And yet, I don't dog JY for days on end, proporting myself as his superior in God's favor. You must not have anything to do tonight.
What did Jesus say about people being made unclean by things they eat or drink? "It passes thru our bodies, but intentions of the heart make us unclean". Like your intention to persecute Catholics or to judge JY as though you thought yourself a god. It's interesting though that YOU mentioned booze. Gotta monkey on your back Jim?
God looks for worship that is both spiritual and true. While, men respond to things that they can feel, see, taste, and smell. Perhaps, perfect worship involves aspects of both so that God is correctly worshipped and man is pleased to do the worshipping. This would explain the appeal of "Ash Wednesday".
Lyn: I am asking questions, and you are ducking them. I asked, "If Jesus paid it all?". This is a question not a contradiction. If the sin of Adam and Eve caused us to be punished by toil and age and death; and, if Jesus "paid it all", then 1) we no longer toil, age, and die 2) Freedom from toiling, aging and dying were never on the radar screen 3) Jesus paid the price of some things but not others. You said, "The cross of Christ reconciles lost sinners to God". The Cross of Christ is a piece of wood, only Christ can reconcile sinners. Christ's suffering, and death is sufficient to Redeem mankind unto God the Father's good graces, and to save us from our sins. If that were the end to it, we could all go home and watch 'Mayberry RFD' reruns. I also noticed that you did not respond to the parable about the guest at the feast who was improperly dressed. What? No quick biblical reply? In sum, if God "Did it all", then why do we struggle? If God "Did it all", why use people to build your church? God doesn't need us to win his victory. Why did Mary say, "Be in done unto me according to your word". Why didn't God just..."Do it!". Why does Paul call us co-workers with God?
God made us the way we are. Our "Elder Brothers" in the Faith, the Jews, were drawn toward ritual, liturgy and symbols. It should come as no surprise to most people who truly think on it, that physical people would be most satisfied by physical worship.
Catholic fasting during Lent consists of two days (Ash Wednesday, Good Friday), where all the faithful above the age of about 15 years to 65 years (unless limited by bad health) are requested to avoid red meat, chicken and pork, and eat only one main meal. We are allowed to drink any liquid. Also, every Friday we are asked to only eat fish and no meat. The idea of Lent is to disipline the body and make it obey, so that we can overcome sin in our lives. It also reminds us how much more the Savior suffered and what great sufferings he had compared to ours. In sum, not a bad idea for any Christian who wishes to follow in Christ's footsteps.
Lyn: We are saved by grace thru faith. Faith comes from God. We were saved by Jesus' death, we are being saved by Jesus' death and we will be saved by Jesus' death. The mechanism is unimportant, for his own reasons, he picked the cross.
If Jesus "paid it all", then all of our punishments from Adam and Eve would be cancelled; yet we see men and women living by the "sweat of their brow". Women still experience pain in child birth. We all will grow old and someday taste death. Jesus ransomed us from the Devil. He opened the gates of Heaven to us. But, he also requires us to "pick up our cross and follow him", be obedient, keep his commands and do his father's will. If God did not require something from us why the parables about: 1-"Not everyone who says "Lord, Lord"... 2-At the Last Judgement why aren't the Christians immediately allowed into God's presence? Why did Jesus commend them for feeding the hungry, visiting the sick, clothing the naked? 3-The story about the 7 virgins who brought extra oil and the foolish virgin who didn't. 3-The story about the Rich man's feast and the guest that wore the wrong clothes.
If you are already saved and God requires nothing from you...why: 1-Are the Elect still here? 2-Why do the Elect suffer? 3-Why go to Church? Why sin?
Lyn: No. Christ's work, the Redemption of Mankind, was totally finished at the Crucifixtion. God the Father's wrath was satified and mankind was made acceptable to Heaven, provided that man had faith in Jesus, became baptised, remained faithful to Christ throughout his life, repented and asked Jesus to absolve him from his sins, and followed Christ's commands.
CJW: There is nothing to add to it...“It is finished,” you must believe there’s no more to be done...you don’t truly believe Christ at all.
Resp: We are required to be faithful and obedient until the end of our days. To say that we have no obligation to Christ is cheap grace and in error.
CJW: The bible says that Jesus died to Redeem man because of his sins against the Father, but it doesn't say that Jesus has forgiven all man's sin. Jesus says to the Apostles, "Whose sin's you shall forgive they are forgiven, whose sin's you shall retain, they are retained (unforgiven). If you want to follow Protestantism, then all well and good, but please don't mislead the poor Phillipinoes, who mostly belong to the true and Catholic Church. Ok?
