TOm: can't you just give me something simple like "I'm saved by Jesus Christ through his shed blood on the cross for which he died for my sins according to the scriptures?"

Or how about I Cor. 15:1-4? That is the simplest and easiest answer by far.

So, as I said I would answer, I am saved by the gospel which is how that Jesus died for our sins, was buried and rose again the third day according to the scriptures. I called upon his name and was saved.

gotta run

Tom: Sorry, not satisfied. That was general passage which doesn't specificalyl list itself as the gospel. Can the gospel be obtained from there? Certainly. But at the same time there are parts there that are not part of the gospel.

By what are you saved? You say the gospel yet you have not been able to give me the gospel! Give me specifically from the verses what you mean. Please don't just copy the whole passage, I just reread it. Give me exactly what you mean.

BTW, I am asking this in good faith with a guarantee I will tell you what the gospel is by which I am saved as soon as I get a definite answer of if you are saved or not.

Tom:

A bit general there don't you think?

Which part there, bub? By denying ungodliness and worldy lusts? By living soberly? righteously? godly? by looking for that blessed hope?

could you be more specific? you still seem to be grasping for straws...

Tom: Shouldn't you just admit that you don't know the gospel that you are saved by?

What is that gospel? What IS THE gospel you are saved by? You say you are saved, what is the gospel you were saved by?

Tom: Once again, you failed to tell me the gospel by which you are saved. Thus far you have referred to something effiminate sounding, worthy of only Haggards church (btw you a part of that? being in CO and all?) as a testimony, with no saving gospel mentioned.

At least we agree your ignorance was preordained. I like finding common ground at times.

don't be so sure on your election because (I Corinthians 6:9-10) says the effeminate shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

TOM: Jesus would be who I am witnessing to others about, surely you are not as dense as you act.

You still didn't tell what me by what gospel you were saved. In reference to your "testimony", it only stated something sappy about being loved into the kingdom, that doesn't register as the gospel at the moment.

Furthermore, thanks for the news on your doctrinal stance. God must have preordained your ignorance.

You should know who won't be in heaven!

Still can't confess eh?

That has to be troubling...

Michael:
"Would you think believing in vain is related to having no repentance? wanting to go to heaven but not to actually have to follow Jesus Christ to be there?"

Lurker: "In the spirit of "Why is this thus?"; how is it possible that anyone could believe in Jesus Christ in vain? "

For both, the easiest answer is found in the same verse,

vs 2 "By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain."

so obviously for some it is not having a real belief, not a true asking of Jesus to save them. I am sure there are some other things that could go along with this such as the false preachers, teachers, etc. that have been mentioned as well.

sorry it took so long to reply!!

MIKE from NY: That was a funy comment, thanks for the laugh. I would have to say I am more like dung covered snow though... not the snow covered dung that cherly preaches.

Cherly, can you confess that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh? This would be the third time you have refused to answer btw.

Tom: Once again no Scripture... suprised? No, not in the least.

And winning the convert isn't the goal, witnessing is th goal in that sense. (Mark 16:15 ; Acts 20:20 ; Mt. 28:19) Once again, if you would crack open a Bible every now and then you might get that or at least something from the Bible.

Regardless, I realized I haven't asked you if YOU are saved or not. If so, what is the gospel and how were you saved? (I would hate to think I was debating spiritual things with an unregenerate man, but it wouldn't be the first time).

Waiting for your reply...

BRAVO: Sorry about the wait, I wanted to check on one specific thing before I wrote this to make sure I was correct. Some of the primary sources that they used when translating the text were the Lectionaries, specific sermons by the "church fathers" which contained specific scripture references, along with the other numerous translations that they looked to from the past to check from as well. My statement that "they are not accessible to your wife" may be too broad for if someone had enough money I guess they could be accessible with near limitless time and money. Beyond that these men worked together over years to translate.

TOM: You remind me of expositor, you apparently put more repsect to dictionaries than the Bible, congratulations. I understand facetious (although in your case it should be spelled fecesious), but you do seem to misunderstand my sardonic approach.

I notice though that although you might be handy with a dime-store thesaurus, your use of Scripture to back yourself up is... well... nonexistent. you did not reprove b/c you cannot, bub.

Romans 16:18 For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple. (read 17 to get the context.)

Tom:

Proverbs 29:5 A man that flattereth his neighbour spreadeth a net for his feet.

and no Tom, I am not even considered an unprofitable servant. You sure need to read your Bible more.

Luke 17:10 So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do.

BRAVO: I will do my best to get back with you shortly.

One can't help but to think about the old adage, "the only thing men ever learn form history is that men never learn from history".

My thoughts instantly go to preWWWII when Britian and France followed their policy of appeasement with Germany's Hitler allowing him to have Sudentenland in an effort to "appease" him and quench his desire for expansion. The result is obvious now, the decision was made in Sept. of 1938 at Munich and Hitler, only 6 months later in March of 39 "annexed" the rest of Czechoslovakia.

We too are faced with what to do with a spreading threat, and men are destined to repeat history when they don't learn from it.

Bravo: Honestly didn't see that question in the next to last post, all apologies for seemingly ignoring it. And I will try to get back to you tomorrow on the sources, I don't have any resources on me at the moment seeing I am at a family members house.

Two. I believe what the Bible says. There have been numerous times that I have been wrong and someone has shown me from Scripture and Scripture alone where the truth was. i have no interpretation for the Scriptures are of no private interpretation. I take it literally and when I literally take it wrong I admit my wrong and move on with the truth. I don't have a perfecct understanding but the Holy Spirit certainly does and the Bible tells me that it is he that teaches us.

The problem that I have is with people that try to teach doctrine but don't believe the Bible (which is most). I say someone is blind or hates the Bible when they reject it, and try to correct it, not when I disagree with them. The quote you gave of me is only stating what it says, you have to believe the Bible to believe the Bible quotes I give, and you have already stated that you don't believe the Bible that you have in your hands is wholly accurate but that instead your wife is a better translator.. what am I to think?

Publican: surely that statement wasn't thought out... the first example in that passage would verse 5 which is negative... so the dictionary wouldn't be following the Bible (which has an extreme tendency to be negative I might add).

and the very first time it is used in the Bible in Gen 6:3 it is negative as well...

Right, Jesus and the apostles were stupid because they didn't have a dictionary to share amongst them

You could do well, first getting saved, second believing the whole Bible. It would do wonders for your lack of common sense

BTW, while you are holding to your precious word helper and denying the Bible, try looking up sarcastic or sardonic... sense you completely missed the mark on that.

Sure tom. keep talking big. you are a waste of time. and Ill keep labouring while you keep "living Jesus" and showing people God through your godly example

I did notice how you didn't try to reprove my statement of YOUR lack of work though.

and thanks, it will be nice to have rewards for the labour that is done.
