Thank You Lord Jesus The Lord woke me this morning and laid on my heart to listen to this sermon yet again. When I reached this page and saw the date that this sermon was preached I smiled and thanked God. 40 years to the day and this sermon still resonates. It's a miracle of God.
I needed to hear this sermon again. I was reminded that I am God's workmanship, not of my own. Not of anyone else's.
Through the mouth of Henry Mahan does God speak. Thank you Lord Jesus for allowing me to hear your word. |

A Cornucopia of Insights Yes, the sermon is about the Ascension. More or less. Henry expounds on various things regarding the ascension, but isn't really following a specific line of thinking. He says in the beginning of the sermon that he isn't sure about the topic. So he just goes with it and let's the Lord send His message. As well he should do.
The sad thing about this sermon is that it is cut off in the middle of something Henry is saying. Maybe it's important, we won't ever know. And that's sad when sermons are cut short like that. But at least we have this much of it.
You just can never go wrong with Henry. He is one of those rare, rare jewels that God placed on this earth and used as a messenger of His Holy word. I am so thankful that God allowed me to hear this man preach His word.
God Bless Henry Mahan. |

Henry At His Best I am studying this particular passage of scripture right now and had forgotten that Henry had preached on it until I searched SermonAudio and it came up. I had listened to it before & commented that it had no Transcript, but today I was listening in regard to the passage specifically. And Henry didn't let me down.
How I wish that I could have had the privilege of sitting in his church & listening to him preach back in the day. A true regret that I have.
He points out the ugliness of self-righteousness and points directly to it. We are all guilty of it to some degree, but he goes beyond that and shows the difference between those of us who are tricked by it & those who live it as a way of life.
I am so glad that God has chosen to show me my sins. It's a hard thing to do - looking at the hideous monster in the mirror, but look I must because that is who I am - like it or not.
When it comes to real preaching and real preachers - you can NEVER go wrong with Henry. God bless him. I thank God that He used Henry to deliver His message - especially to me. |

Excellently Done! Dr Masters has such humility when delivering the message of God.
Dr Masters is at his very best in this sermon. I have heard some very good sermons on this passage, but Dr Masters gets to the very heart of the matter, where most pastors are afraid to go.
He asks some very hard (& all too important) questions here for anyone who has the nerve to listen to this sermon. This sermon is not for the faint of heart. Not if you are trying to be brutally honest with yourself.
There is no way to point out any one particular aspect of this sermon, it has to be listened to (& taken in) as a whole.
The brutal & unvarnished truth resides here. |

A Glimpse Inside I have a longer sermon from Mac entitled "Our Resurrection Bodies". This particular version seems to be a thumbnail of that longer sermon. Bur then again, this isn't in the pulpit either. That doesn't mean it isn't any less important. Just briefer. More to the point, which is good.
For those of us out there who don't have much longer here, this kind of sermon is very encouraging. It's good to have these things explained in detail and Mac is the best professor around. I have spent many, many hours in his classroom and have learned many, many things.
For those who are seriously searching to understand this subject, here is a good beginning place. |

Impressive It is so refreshing to hear a pastor preach the word of God. Like listening to John the Baptist preaching. It almost reminded me of Rolfe Barnard reincarnated.
I enjoy listening to a pastor who is consumed with the word of God and isn't pretending. Tickling the ears of his congregation, but one instead who PREACHES the word. In all its truth.
I am impressed. |

Absolutely Outstanding! I have been working on this particular passage of scripture for some time now. This morning I was led to listen to it and I was blown away. I more than understand this passage now.
This pastor had no problem whatsoever saying the TRUTH. Why can't other pastors do that? Where is the issue here?
Right out of the gate, the pastor says "God is a crowd thinner, not a crowd pleaser". That set the tone for the entire sermon and he's absolutely correct.
I have been wondering for some time now if there were any of God's men left on this planet, because I haven't found any - until today.
I will look forward to hearing more of this pastor's sermons. I hope they all stand up to the quality of this one. |

Interesting I am presently studying 1 Corinthians 13:12 and have chosen to look at all the preachers on SermonAudio who have preached on this particular verse.
I wasn't sure what to expect from Pastor Criss, but found him to be quite interesting in his teaching of this verse. Overall, it was applicable.
During the sermon I was taken back several times to Henry Mahan and his style of preaching and smiled, remembering.
There were several points that I did disagree with Pastor Criss on. One of the more important points was when we come before Christ; I believe that we will have no more remembrance of this place, hence our tears being wiped away. Yes, now we speak as children, that is true. But when we get there, this will cease to exist in our minds and only Christ and his infinite beauty and glory will be our only focus.
Well done Pastor Criss, the Lord used you well. |

Outstanding Sermon I am presently studying 1 Corinthians 13:12 and have chosen to listen to the pastors on SermonAudio who have preached on this particular passage.
This sermon was a pleasant and refreshing breath of fresh air. I actually came away with a much better understanding of this scripture.
The British pastors have something that the American pastors sorely lack. I can't say what it is exactly, but I know when I listen to the British pastors I will in fact learn something.
I believe the British pastors are more historically knowledgeable than the American pastors and in that, bring a considerable amount of background to scripture in helping to set the stage for understanding on how things were in biblical times, which gives a much clearer picture, which Pastor Thackway did indeed do.
Pastor Thackway did an outstanding job and I feel much more secure in understanding this passage of scripture now.
Thank you sir, for being such a useful vessel for God in the bringing of His message to someone out here who is struggling to draw closer to Him. |

The Truth Revealed I am presently studying 1 Corinthians 13:12 and am listening to the pastors on SermonAudio who have preached on this passage.
I was hesitant at first to listen to this sermon based on the title alone. I knew where it generated from and was skeptical about its source being used to help explain scripture.
I'm glad that I did what I felt I was being led to do. It is refreshing when a pastor can stand up and say what needs to be said and do it with confidence.
The world we live in today is drowning in false religion and a false belief system and to find a pastor who preaches the truth is like a refreshing drink in a parched desert.
I look forward to hearing more sermons by him.
You have to want to hear the truth in order to enjoy this pastor. |

Unique Sermon I am in the process of studying this particular passage of scripture and I am listening to the pastors on SermonAudio who have preached on it.
This particular pastor was very confident on this subject. He knew it and was able to explain quite well.
The last part of the sermon around the 28-30 min mark, God used this pastor to speak to me specifically and that caught my attention.
Even though this pastor was initially hard to listen to based on his delivery style; as I continued to listen, it eased up considerably. I might listen to other sermons by this pastor.
The sermon was intelligently, confidently and forcefully delivered. I learned a lot. |

Dangerous Territory This sermon was hard to follow. The reasoning that the pastor laid out in using the Disciple's Prayer for identifying the 12 marks of a saint. I wasn't able to follow it, but then maybe my eyes haven't been opened. Who knows?
Where the pastor went off track with this sermon was with one statement "If you can't forgive then you (think) you're not a sinner". That's patently not true for the elect.
I, myself have wrestled with forgiveness for years in prayer. All I can do is ask God to help me to forgive. I can't just make up my mind to forgive; neither can anyone else, including the pastor. That was a very presumptuous statement on his part. Very dangerous.
Pastors need to learn humility in the handling of God's word. Spurgeon said "I can assure you that I never address you without feeling that it would be better for me to engage in breaking stones on the road or in any handicraft however hard it might be, than to have to preach the gospel; because if I am unfaithful to the many souls committed to my charge, what must be my portion at the last?"
Luther said that he never went into the pulpit without his knees knocking together through fear, even though he was a man of dauntless courage.

A Hidden Jewel Inside First off, the audio is overdriven & could wreak havoc on speakers. It did mine. But that didn't stop me from listening to the sermon 3 times over the last 2 days. There was a lot to take in in that short 37 mins.
How do we see Peter before & after the Lord's crucifixion? The short answer(if we are honest with ourselves)is that we see ourselves. Shamelessly confident on one side & totally worthless on the other.
The pastor did an exceptional job at bringing these two contrasting aspects together to show just how 'human' we can be & still be God's children (in spite of our best efforts to the contrary).

Incorrectly Titled Sermon At the beginning of the sermon the Pastor states that the name of the sermon is "IF THE FOUNDATIONS BE DESTROYED" & passage of scripture named was PSALM 11:3.
I'm glad that I listened to this sermon because the pastor goes in depth into the false foundations of religion today as compared to those specific foundations in scripture. I didn't know any of this.
He spoke about the 6 foundations of the gospel & listed them:
1 - Repentance from dead works
2 - Faith toward God
3 - Doctrine of Baptism
4 - Doctrine of laying on of hands
5 - Resurrection of the dead
6 - Eternal Judgment
Very interesting sermon. I learned quite a few things.

What Is Marriage? First off, let me say that there are portions of this sermon where the pastor wanders away from the microphone & you can't really hear what he is saying.
The pastor says he doesn't feel qualified to speak on this subject & well he should say that because no one is qualified. The best he can do is try to impart to us what scripture not only says, but truly means.
He does state that Paul speaks on the following subjects in scripture:
-Marriage
-Marital Responsibility
-Sex
-Divorce
-Separation
-Reconciliation
-Being Single
For those of us interested in what Paul the Apostle has to say regarding the subject.
The pastor does show a parallel (I think) to Christ & His church where marriage is concerned & the treatment of each other in marriage.
He mentions that staying single is a gift & marriage as well is a gift, if looked at in their proper perspectives.
I would have liked a little more insight into certain aspects of marriage personally, but he did an acceptable job, considering that preachers don't preach this today.

Who Do You Really Love? I listened to this sermon twice & it resonated with me on the deepest of levels.
At the end of the day - who do we love? God or the world? Look around you, at what you have, what you work for, where your heart is & ask yourself "Who do I really love?"
The pastor talks about the "Trinity of Evil". It's the first time that I have ever heard of it termed that way.
Lust of the Flesh - Pleasure
Lust of the Eyes - Popularity
Pride of Life - Power
He also speaks about & explains the age old term "touch not, taste not, handle not". As well as what it is the world advertizes.
This sermon actually made me feel good. I know for sure that I am not of this world in any way, shape or form. I hate the world & I can't wait to leave to go be with my Lord & Master Jesus Christ. To me, this place is nothing more than a sewage hole and I want nothing from it. NOTHING.
Bold preaching at it's very best.

Worry Not In the last 2 days I have listened to this sermon several more times. And yes, the pastor is still at the beach.
The pastor begins by asking us who we are. Mary or Martha? And the answer is obvious without being stated. Then he asks who is it that we want to be. It is from this point that the sermon takes off and rolls full steam ahead to the critical & unavoidable conclusion.
The basis of the sermon is about exactly what the title says. The pastor draws a comparison between LITTLE FAITH & GREAT FAITH & how the two differ. He also goes onto show how we are perpetually disrespecting God in the sense that we consistently worry & are confused in the idea that we have ANY power at all.
This is another MIRROR sermon. Can you bear to look at yourself?

Truth Revealed God revealing truth is a beautiful & wonderful thing. Such is the case with this message. Over the last 4 days or so I have listened to this sermon 3 times. Why? Because I wanted to make sure that what I was taking away from it was in fact what God was showing me. And it was.
When Jesus speaks to the dead boy, it is how He speaks to His people to bring them to life. 'Weep not' to the mother - there is no cause to weep, but instead rejoice.
Our Lord didn't go around healing and resurrecting everyone. He chose those who were in fact His. The blind, the lepers, the possessed & the dead. That's the elect until we hear His voice call out "Rise, come forth". I love you Lord JESUS.
It's not the messenger that should be thanked, but God who works through the messenger as a bullhorn to call His own.

Bad Sound Quality - Duplicate Sermon This particular sermon has very bad sound quality. However, there is an identical sermon listed at 36 mins. The sound quality of the 36 min sermon is much, much cleaner and much easier and more enjoyable to listen to. |
