Frank, this has nothing to do with 9 marks, this is scriptural principle confirmed through church history. No scripture and little historical backing that would support no church discipline. This really isn't even a debated issue (Matt 18; 1 Cor 5) and many other passages leave no option if we want to be faithful to the Word
It's hard to rejoice in something that is not being affirmed or overseen by any other qualified pastors. Church planting 101: don't plant a lone-ranger church, God doesn't like that, and it's not biblical.
I highly disagree with the The Gospel Coalition member who posted this article. I think he is wrong, however he doesn't represent TGC. This title to the article misrepresents TGC who doesn't endorse this position, but allows for a diversity of views and argumentation.
Some of you with your evil comments truly show what modern day phariseeism looks like. Heartless. You show that you either don't know the gospel yourself, or that you have forgotten it. How can you condemn the unbelieving? They already have a judge, and it's not you. We need to be praying for these victims and families of the victims for God to use evil for good to bring some to himself. ----some of you are so much further from Christ than those you condemn.
B. Warely, I agree with your Puritan quotes, amen and amen. However, while it is helpful to know in general the tide of our culture, to get into some topics are simply too evil and grotesque for the godly to stomach. I believe this is what is meant by "do not even speak about what they do in secret" there are secret sins committed behind closed doors that are better for us to be ignorant of
May he hold the faith and continue his mission work in these prison camps, they despirately need missionaries in there. This could be the answer to many of our prayers for the gospel to reach those prison camps
Christian missionaries have been doing this stuff for years why don't Christians protest? They wear Muslim outfits in the Middle East, and then often even tell Christian converts to continue going to their mosques to avoid persecution, but just worship Jesus instead. This is very normal missionary activity. If it's wrong there, it's wrong here, if it's right there, it's right here. We can make distinctions between the two
