Mustard Grains is correct; the Zondervan Encyclopaedia of the Bible points out that husbands generally shared sleeping quarters with sons, and wives with daughters and suckling babies.

I do not know, however, that we ought to be emulating Solomon (or most any of the patriarchs) in his marital life. I seem to remember that all those pagan wives tended to pull them away from Him.

Put differently, I think that sharing a bed is a wonderful way to both cleave to one's wife, and also to enable the "becoming one flesh" part.

Quite right, Chris, but it's unfortunately a fact that this fact of life has been suppressed in U.S. schools for the better part of half a century.

Well, if the judge can come up with some actual evidence that homeschooling is linked with child abuse, he might have a point. However, all of the cases that "link" home education with child abuse have something in common; the horrific results occurred after social services had already gotten involved.

In other words, he's working on zero evidence. Must be a Democrat appointee.

12 apostles, rough roads, a few extra people hanging around? My vote is that He'd use at least two Suburbans, but would be back on that donkey after Judas stole the gas and insurance money.

It is a bitter irony that historic German identity--the famous "Kinder, Kueche, Kirche" (children, kitchen, church) recommended for German women, for example--is being supported by those who are now being persecuted for "creating a parallel society."

The HSLDA and WND both have links where you can send a polite letter pointing out things like this. Maybe if they hear enough, they'll start catching on.

Interestingly, the U.K. has one of the highest obesity rates in the world, and only about 2.5 million people, about 4% of the total population of 60 million. Evidently, their food is so fattening, it leads to obesity among people who don't even eat there!

At least by Prince Charles' logic, or lack thereof. Go back to Camilla and don't bother us, OK, Chuck?

I am also in rebellion against the German government, but thankfully I'm teaching my kids in Minnesota. Nice to know that some idiots over there think that teaching your own kids is a crime, though.

It's interesting that Jobs and Dell, who rely on people's inability to stop spending promoted by the government schools, are now picking on the government schools when they do just that.

Or maybe we're not spending enough? Take a look at John Taylor Gatto's work for details on the link between big business and big schools.

But as the friend of many government school teachers, I hesitate to allow the principal to fire teachers until he's more likely to be fired himself. Sauce for the goose...

I'm personally bothered by the severance package and the requirement that he leave Colorado Springs. If his offence is punishable by firing, just fire him without a cent being given. On the other hand, should not the church be helping out repentant sinners? If his church is worth attending, shouldn't THEY be the ones who get to counsel him?

It's almost like they've given him 30 pieces of silver and proceeded to take him out to Akel-Dama.

Something that ought to be considered in this tragedy is whether the mall had posted "gun free zone" or "welcome criminals" at their doors.

Wade is correct about "herd immunity," but for the spectre of sexually transmitted diseases, the "herd" is really those who fornicate. Given that the children of parents who teach abstinence well are 10x less likely to do this, and 5% of the FDA test sample had some level of significant side effects, I would suggest that Gov. Perry (no close relation) has made a huge mistake.

Instead of vaccinating everyone, I'd suggest the better statistical approach would be to recommend that doctors clearly explain the hazards of promiscuity, explain the marginal protection of the vaccine, and let patients make the choice. The ugly reality here is that this vaccine only reduces the chance of contracting one STD; there are 28 at this date, I believe.

And as Wade also hints, YES, those who have been promiscuous do need to get some level of STD testing before marriage.

Davey, think about this for a minute; how exactly is the carbeuretor going to improve the efficiency of an engine? If it mixes air and gasoline in the proper ratio, it's done it's job and efficiency will result (or not) from the Carnot efficiency of the engine itself, related to the spark plug, compression ratio, and so on.

Put differently, if it's true, somebody is missing out on making a boatload of money on this.

Here's the scoop; I am aware of only two non-diesel vehicles available in the USA that get 40mpg or better, the Toyota Prius and the Honda Civic hybrid.

That's it. Unfortunately, this is about the same list as existed 10 years ago--you can't fool physics here. The President is more or less urging a move to hybrids and diesels without saying so much.

Let me get this straight; a rabbi, whose job is to elucidate the Law of Moses, isn't even sure that Moses even existed.

I realize he's reform, but doncha think he might consider a new job if he's thinking it's a massive fraud?

This is surreal; a pro-abortion legislatress is arguing that spanking is cruel. Somebody needs some perspective.

This is hilarious; to "fight" global warming, dozens of men fly to Georgia, burning thousands of gallons of kerosene in the process. In a manner of speaking, they're smoking to make the room smell better.

Haven't these guys ever heard of the Internet?

Look at the article closely. The Census Bureau is counting all women over the age of 15. When the children are excluded, it turns out that about 53% of women are likely married.

But what does this really mean? Widowhood, divorce, later marriage, cohabitation,??? Count this as yet another way government has wasted your money.

Look carefully; gloves and sunglasses probably short-circuit the system. So either Toyota would shut down the car for those wearing either, or they would prevent the system from working.

As one who often wears gloves while driving here in Minnesota, let's just say that if Toyota made a car you couldn't drive with gloves on, I'd be looking at another manufacturer. Same thing with sunglasses. And it also seems likely that any evasive maneuver would end up putting one's car at the side of the road. Those who drive in urban settings would LOVE that one, I'm sure!

Jay, I'd suggest you'd do well to review 1 Timothy and Titus, specifically in their rejection of polygamy for church elders. Note also that Proverbs 30 and Deuteronomy 17 tell kings not to exhaust their energy on women. A close reading of the histories of Old Testament polygamists (as well as those today) reveals that it tends to be a disaster for all involved--leading to interfamily warfare, paganism, and such.

Plus, Jesus said "No man can serve two masters" in Matthew 6:24. What more proof does one need that polygamy is unBiblical? (thanks Mark Twain!)

Mike nails it; this is simply the logical outcome of Darwinism. The fact that Dawkins apparently cannot see that many might consider this objectionable is also quite telling. Of course, he's also one who has trouble figuring out what's objectionable about his employer's decades-long Piltdown Man fraud.

Like I said, it says something--something not very nice--about Darwinism.

Nice attack to say it's all fake--yes, they are often models instead of real images or fossils, but at least AIG isn't taking the skullcap of a chimpanzee and putting it on a modern man's jaw, putting a fake patina on it, and calling it "Piltdown Man." The correct word is "models," not "fakes". "Fakes" would also include any work by Margaret Mead, memorialized in the Field Museum in Chicago.
