Mustard Grains is correct; the Zondervan Encyclopaedia of the Bible points out that husbands generally shared sleeping quarters with sons, and wives with daughters and suckling babies. I do not know, however, that we ought to be emulating Solomon (or most any of the patriarchs) in his marital life. I seem to remember that all those pagan wives tended to pull them away from Him. Put differently, I think that sharing a bed is a wonderful way to both cleave to one's wife, and also to enable the "becoming one flesh" part. |

It's interesting that Jobs and Dell, who rely on people's inability to stop spending promoted by the government schools, are now picking on the government schools when they do just that.Or maybe we're not spending enough? Take a look at John Taylor Gatto's work for details on the link between big business and big schools. But as the friend of many government school teachers, I hesitate to allow the principal to fire teachers until he's more likely to be fired himself. Sauce for the goose... |

Wade is correct about "herd immunity," but for the spectre of sexually transmitted diseases, the "herd" is really those who fornicate. Given that the children of parents who teach abstinence well are 10x less likely to do this, and 5% of the FDA test sample had some level of significant side effects, I would suggest that Gov. Perry (no close relation) has made a huge mistake.Instead of vaccinating everyone, I'd suggest the better statistical approach would be to recommend that doctors clearly explain the hazards of promiscuity, explain the marginal protection of the vaccine, and let patients make the choice. The ugly reality here is that this vaccine only reduces the chance of contracting one STD; there are 28 at this date, I believe. And as Wade also hints, YES, those who have been promiscuous do need to get some level of STD testing before marriage. |

Davey, think about this for a minute; how exactly is the carbeuretor going to improve the efficiency of an engine? If it mixes air and gasoline in the proper ratio, it's done it's job and efficiency will result (or not) from the Carnot efficiency of the engine itself, related to the spark plug, compression ratio, and so on.Put differently, if it's true, somebody is missing out on making a boatload of money on this. Here's the scoop; I am aware of only two non-diesel vehicles available in the USA that get 40mpg or better, the Toyota Prius and the Honda Civic hybrid. That's it. Unfortunately, this is about the same list as existed 10 years ago--you can't fool physics here. The President is more or less urging a move to hybrids and diesels without saying so much. |
