Exit polls--didn't they show Hillary winning in the last big election? If you watched the TV networks on Election Night, they were depending on those exit polls to give her the victory. Pew Research is a secular group, always ready to do 'research' that denigrates Christianity. I doubt they would do anything dealing with Jewish people (by the way, Happy Rosh Hashana! Public schools closed Monday in many areas) or how little the millenials voted in the last election. All this is not to say that there are groups out there trying to get people to vote. What else is new about that? Since this is a 'mid-term' election, turnout will be less than in Presidential years. Everyone knows that. "All politics is local" so when a GOP rep. in Florida retires, and the GOP's candidate is a former TV reporter with much name recognition, it's likely she will not win in a district that has more Dems registered. Another issue about the Florida election is the complicated ballot with many state constitutional amendments. Some may skip them and go right to the candidates with D or R after their names. Each state has their own issues, own ballots, own local issues, so it is very hard to generalize about how the elections will turn out. And, of course, we assume no dead people will vote. |

This is hardly news; many have pointed out that generous govt. aid programs are what have hurt most. Walter A. Williams, economics professor at George Mason Univ. in Virginia, has written about this. "Head Start" one of those programs, has been shown to be ineffectual in raising up education standards among black children. Remember that for many blacks, getting an education is 'acting white' so they are discouraged from doing well in school. Also, there was an article in the Atlantic magazine a year or so ago about the issue of West African life, written by a Peace Corps volunteer who returned after her term of service. She found women doing most of the work and men doing very little. So maybe the issue has deeper 'Roots' than just what happened in the USA. Yes, we do belong to one Human Race, but in most countries, racial differences are huge. Remember that the last US President was considered 'black' even though his mother was white. In Brazil and many Latin American countries, he would have been considered a mulatto. Brazil has many racial mixtures and terms that apply to them. In the Dominican Republic, there has been so much mixing going on over the years that their Census does not have simple categories, but rates your hair--is it kinky? straight? curly? |

Let's see how else they could have reacted: 1. we thought this would happen, with white farmers arming up, paying for mercenaries to defend their lands rather than producing crops. 2. we knew this would happen since Zimbabwe became a disaster area when the same land grab was used.I don't think they would have chosen either one of the above because it makes their land grab look so blatant. I, for one, would not mind having a flock of white South African emigrants come to the US. They would be happy to be here, while many of those 'South of the Border' types come in 'with an attitude' and are very ignorant of the rules of civilized society (I have heard complaints on a Spanish radio station in Miami that points this out--there is a real division there between the Cubans who came over after Castro, the Cubans who have come over recently, and the Central Americans arriving now). If the US had an operational immigration system, not one where 'temporary protection status' goes on for 18 years, with a functioning border, then we could pick and choose who would come into the country. Let other countries like Australia, New Zealand and Canada take on the 'humanitarian cases' of the world. If you don't protect your border and immigration system, what country do you have? |

A good story to remind everyone of the importance of elections--who you vote for does matter, and, as if you have been asleep or not paying attention since Nov. 2016, we are in the middle of a war. Even the Russians are involved, paying for people to fan the flames of racism, fear, etc. George Soros also has his hand in this. They all want the same thing--destabilize the country. Did you hear the news item today about the parent of one of the 'Parkland, Florida' victims going to the Capitol to stop the nomination to the Supreme Court of Kavanaugh? Since when has the USA become a one-man-rules country? Sure, his loss is terrible, but what about all the black parents in Chicago and Baltimore, who have lost their children due to gun violence? Where do they go to protest? (I suggest the Mayor's office of those 2 cities, and maybe that is why the former President's man in Chicago Rahm Emmanuel has decided to not run for mayor again). No, the mid-term elections are not about any issues but one--President Donald Trump. In Florida there is one seat where the current Republican is retiring, so the current President of the Univ. of Miami, a Democrat, is considered a 'shoe-in' because the district has more Dems than Reps. Too bad! I wonder how many other seats are in a similar condition. |

Thanks, 'Quiet' for reminding us of the famous Chik-Fil-A boycott. What this story goes to show you is how polarized our country has become, where these Dems have to stake out a radical position to get any notice at all. I'm sure they will have their supporters, especially the 'brown-shirts' that do these instantaneous protests (haven't they read the history of Germany's National Socialist Party in the 1920s and 1930s?). It makes it harder for other Dems, more moderate types, to support them, though when it comes down to voting for a guy with R after their name or another one with D, they will still choose the latter. So, then, you ask, why do they bother taking these actions? Why not just stick to the specific issues that concern the voters in their area? Crime, taxes, govt budgets, govt pensions are all good issues to talk about. |

Sorry, '2 cents' but I doubt this will spread very far. 1. mainstream media--what 90 percent of people watch--will not mention it. the 10 percent who do will make it look like the company was doing the 'brave and righteous' thing by firing the employee. kinda like what happens when people stop coming to your local church; others will say they left because they are bitter. 2. Facebook is not the mecca of young people anymore; they have moved on to other social media platform, so that means they will not hear of this, since they are the last people to read newspapers, watch the national network TV news (and when have you heard of a national radio network news program?), etc. This may sound depressing, but I think it is better to be realistic. To cite a biblical example, Elijah thought he was all alone and God reminded him that many more were out there who were on his side. Jeremiah, however, didn't have many friends, just one Cushite who rescued him from the mud in that well that the king put him in for having said negative things about the Babylonians taking over the city. In the end, God is in charge of all. We can rest in his wisdom working out in our lives. We won't always understand it. Think of Joseph (another well-dweller), sold by his own brothers as a slave! |

Maybe I have a short memory span, but do you remember seeing a story like this during the regime of Barrack Hussein Obama? There were many churches and pastors saying wonderful things about his government, how finally the US was acting humanely in the world, with humility instead of Teddy Roosevelt's Big Stick, giving away hundreds of millions of dollars to 'poor' people in the country, and so on and so on. I leave it to your memory to add all the ways different churches, pastors, ministers, etc. heaped up the praise on the last US Administration, and no one called it into question. No one said what this article says. Bottom line: it's all about the current President Donald Trump. He is favored by the people, not by the people in power, not even his own party. He is the famous 'bull in the china shop' upsetting things that have been done this way all these years, like going to talk to the North Korean dictator, which resulted in the end of missiles being launched freely over Japan (with no thanks from Japan, by the way), and their weapons research work being shut down. The US economy is doing better, with more people employed than ever. No, this is not good for the 'intellectuals-yet-idiots' that populate nearly every college in the country, and many many 'think tanks' that |
