Oh CAB, I feel for you, really. You have been shown verse after verse after verse - whole sections, no cherry picking. And yet you cannot see! I pray you will come to know the Lord and Savior of the Bible who ALONE can save you.
Brothers, know there are those of us who do pray for you while you comment although we may not be posting at all. It's just so sad for me to see someone struggle against the power of Christ, wanting to take a piece of it on themselves... Christ deserves ALL the glory, we deserve Hell; by His grace and mercy alone have any of us been brought before the throne, ragged and wretched. Maybe, as you said John, this will be for her salvation.
Wow GsTexas, you are on a roll! Keep speaking the truth in love Gs and let God sort it out. When I see certain individuals posting it gives me a great chance to pray for those on the forum who I believe are truly trying to contend for the faith and exhault Christ to where He belongs. You and a host of others have been wrongly accused of much lately in a few threads - take heart and be of good cheer because whatever it is you are doing, it's making Satan mad! So, good job and may you and your family continue to walk the narrow, very unpopular road that leads us ever upward!
"... For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we will be changed. ... When this corruptible is clothed with incorruptibility, and this mortal is clothed with immortality, then the saying that is written will take place: Death has been swallowed up in victory. Death, where is your victory? Death, where is your sting? Now the sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But THANKS BE TO GOD, who GIVES US the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ! Therefore, my dear brothers, BE STEADFAST, IMMOVABLE, ALWAYS EXCELLING IN THE LORD'S WORK, KNOWING THAT YOU LABOR IN THE LORD IS NOT IN VAIN. (1 Corinthians 15:52-58, my emphasis added)
Now THAT is the death I look forward to waking up from!
CAB, at 108 comments, I am sure if there was something to say, it was said. Take heed to the wisdom that has been given you.
Dorcas, I'll be off site today as SA-comments-induced indigestion while pregnant isn't something I want this morning. But may you rejoice in the day the Lord has given us, as it is fully His and we get to enjoy it! Take care!
What happened?! I wanted to see if maybe some of the people we had been praying for would have reached out, and THIS is where the conversation went...? CAB, the conversation was about laying people at the feet of our Savior when you popped in with "it occurred to ME..."! It was about people who were in need of GOD, not any of us.
Growing up SDA, who believe as CAB does that you can loose your salvation, I can understand the descent into such hateful, boastful, condemning words to others - probably did it myself. The fear of dying in unrepentant sins, even if I had tried my hardest that day and had worked closely to repent of my known sins, was maddening. People who believe this lie have to DO something to convince themselves of their sincerity and desire to be saved. Don't take anything they have to say personally, even when attacked. Instead, because they are blind to the truth and have not received a spirit of light (Eph. 5), maybe we should expect this kind of behavior and continue to tread carefully when talking with them as they are unwittingly holding onto their death shrouds claiming "life!" CAB's life is miserable and full of fear and depression - leaning on the everlasting arms is something this type will try to obtain themselves, not realizing it's there just
Cont... Whether you agree or not makes zero difference to me - read all you want! But the "wider opinion" you will gain, I promise you, will leave you with questions and doubts unless one is substantially able to disceminate the authors world views and perceive their intent. Camus, another great example of this!
Well Will, since I have read the books and authors mentioned, it follows that I wouldn't say not to read them. However (and that is a big however), at what moral price does hypocrisy cost our main character in the SL? And while Twain's disdain for racism is obvious, there are the issues of the "dumb" religious, bigoted Christians and the idea that good 'ol Huck can forge his own destiny. While from one side of our mouth we can say "keep the grain and discard the chaff", at some point you need to watch out for "the little leaven that affects the whole bread". The pitfall of submersing ourselves in "good literature" is that if the chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever, this good literature will not edify the Christian seeking to endeavor a pleasing use of time towards the Lords. Music, for example: just because John Lennon had a great voice and a gift to write lyrically well does not suddenly mean I should drag "the old man" (aka, my sin nature) through that which is not edifying toward my Savior. It isn't as though hearing it will kill me or make me less Christian, but a steady diet... Now THAT is what I am talking about.
Whether you agree or not make zero difference to me - read all you want! But the "wider opinion" you will gain, I promise you, will
Helen, while I cannot deny that the world has embraced the authors' works you mention here as the greatest literary minds in our recent history, these men are NOT Christians, but enemies, in fact, of the word of God. Their humanism, relativism, Transcendentalism, pantheistic, et al views course through their writings and more often than not we read right over it because we have been given a character we love to identify with - but the small thought persists. Why don't people read the likes of GA Henty anymore?
Nathaniel Hawthorne: what a sad man and a sad life! Complete, utter hopelessness, as evidenced in the Scarlet Letter. Ever read his work "Septimius"? Don't read it if you're struggling with ANYTHING in life!
Edgar Allan Poe wrote the most dreadfully dark novels and was hounded his entire life by "dark places which I care as not to look at lest they fully engulf my being before I take my last breath".
Ralph Waldo Emerson dabbled in homosexuality, humanism and wrote "Familiar as the voice of the mind is to each, the highest merit we ascribe to Moses, Plato and Milton, is that they set at naught books and traditions, and spoke not what men but what they thought." (From his work "Self-Reliance").
Mark Twain: "The Bible is a compendium of blood-drenched history.
Lurker, my heartfelt prayers will go out for this woman! What a tangle of emotions and choices she had to have been dealing with!
And I will add a Dopey/David and Jessa to our prayers tonight as well. What a privalege it is to be able to ask God for anything, knowing His will will always be done and it will be perfect.
God keep you all safe and sound tonight! "I will praise the Lord who counsels me - even at night my conscience instructs me. I keep the Lord in mind always. Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad and my spirit rejoices; my body also rests securely." (Psalms 16:7-9)
When God cursed Adam and Eve after the fall, He cursed Eve with great pain in childbirth and Adam with providing food by toil and sweat. While the Proverbs 31 woman, whom feminists jump to for working outside the home to "provide", did indeed conduct business transactions and hold money, I ask anyone to show me where this proves women may work outside the home. It simply allows a women, in certain seasons of life, to add to the home all the while under her husbands approval and AFTER the home is kept! We are NOT items of income as many nowadays seem to require women to carry both curses. God BLESSED women as keepers OF the home, not cursed us to provide FOR the family. We are to trust God to do His work in our husbands and "You (speaking to women) have become [Sarah's] children when you do what is good and are not frightened by anything alarming." (1 Peter 3:6). Dolores's testimony shows God to be true and faithful to His children when they obey Him rather than leaning on our own understanding.
And a nursing degree? Is that because before women could get nursing degrees they didn't know how to take care of their kids...? Sorry, doesn't make any sense there John Y.
Good evening Dorcas! Everything is just great! Only 6 weeks or so to go and we are all ready to meet the newbie. Honestly, this pregnancy has zapped my energy and it takes everything I've got to get through school with the kids, fix meals and keep the house from looking like a complete disaster! And how have you been?
Schultz wasn't "wading into theology", he was trying to give a mocking answer to a mocking question regarding God. The things we'll regret saying one day! "Don’t be deceived: God is not mocked. For whatever a man sows he will also reap," (Galatians 6:7).
I suffered through post partum depression with our first. It is something I don't talk much about, but I did manage to "hide" it from everyone because I knew if someone found out what my day/night was like with this little baby, they would have taken him and committed me. It was a year of pure torture beyond human reason, every second of every day. God, and God alone, kept my son safe, kept myself safe, and somehow cleared away the crushing weight. So I know about hiding behind laughter. I thank God that HE knew about my hiding behind the laughter, too, and HE didn't leave me when I was powerless to do anything else! At the right time, He will take the burden; until then we cling to whatever He gives us to cling to. And when we lose our grip on reality, we find He was the One holding on the whole time anyway. He really does mean it when He said, "Never will I leave you nor forsake you."
Trovis, breast cancer is directly related to nursing a baby versus bottle feeding. It used to be called "Nun's Disease". Doesn't mean a mother can't get BC, but their rates of BC are significantly lower, as in more than 55% decrease in rates.
Good morning Christopher! I couldn't help but think of Jonah! It's the deepest, darkest moments when God often shines His light on us because at that moment He CAN illume us fully, without shadow, and all to His glory. I cannot imagine this cooks thoughts at being trapped, but I do pray that should you be feeling the same hopelessness, even though you aren't trapped under the weight of water, that you will continue, as he and Jonah did, to surrender yourself and thought moment by moment to Him who is our redeemer and protector, against ALL odds. You're in our prayers.
Protect me, God, for I take refuge in You. I said to Yahweh, "You are my Lord; I have nothing good besides You.‚ÄĚ (Psalms 16:1-2)
This guy also had a much cleaner exit than Jonah...!
