Good. We need more of these kind of Christians who actually practice biblically their love and affection for one another and what the results are!

They'd do better to drop in at the local cathedral or church and light a candle or incense. A little more scriptural anyway. And take a few moments for prayer at home. It isn't that difficult or time consuming.

Hmm...so God gives this gift which excludes such who do it from inheriting the kingdom of God. How is such a thing even possible? Because it is not. God is not the author of sin and does not tempt anybody but will make a way of escape from temptation.

There are two "kingdoms," the spiritual and the temporal. What Obama tried to do was what popes of the past have tried to do...being a spiritual and temporal ruler, applying spiritual principles to civil things and secular or temporal and vice versa. Not the best way to do things. What the US needs to do is repent and believe the only true Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.

SBGG wrote:
In regard to confirmation question, those in the continental reformered tradition such as the RCUS give this reason:
The RCUS practices covenant “confirmation” as commended by John Calvin (Institutes 4:19:4, 12, 13). This is done in carrying out the biblical responsibility of covenant family and church to bring up children as Christians by “feeding them with the discipline and admonition of God” (literal translation of Eph. 6:4).
Thanks for the input SBGG. Now I know a little bit from the Reformed point of view of it. However, I prefer to not be too creedal about it, only that I believe it is scriptural and beneficial for the believer. The book of Acts says the Apostles went to the various congregations and strengthened or confirmed the believers. So it happens today as well, with a time of Bible study and a public profession of faith and prayers and laying on of hands for strength and receiving the fullness of the gift of the Holy Spirit. Also 1 Tim. 4:14 gives insight to it also...the laying on of hands of the presbytery.

Neil, sorry, I didn't intend a long- winded debate, but just to answer your questions and explain why some churches do this. What does Luke 11:13 have to do with confirmation. Quite a bit at least in my understanding of it. Luke 11:13 "How much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask..." So it goes in the rite of confirmation that prayer is made to God to strengthen the believer and send the Holy Spirit. Maybe the Presbys have a different take on it. I have never witnessed a Presby confirmation service and was surprised to see this on here anyway. Yes, usually this is preceded by a time of instruction in the faith and then making a public profession of faith. Anyway, no more from me. Just wanted to answer the questions you submitted. See you around the board, but I am not on here as frequently as I was before. Take care and may the peace of Christ be in you and your home.

Thanks Neil for the response. Jesus didn't make a distinction in Luke 11:13, so I believe it applies to all folks and haven't seen a scripture which says this was only for the Apostles. No imitation of Rome on my part. Just what I believe and why.

A lot of folks come close to the same conclusion if you don't accept their point of view or interepretation of the Bible....either you are not saved, illiterate or apostate.

John, just because your local parish is not cognizant doesn't mean you are not a heretic already. Long ago the RCC declared anathemas against people who believe like you do(people who confess justification by faith alone, repudiate the pope's universal control and claims to infallibility, Scripture alone, etc.). So far as I know, those anathemas are still in effect.

Confirmation in a Presby church? I don't recall this in the WCF or the Directory for Publick Worship.
Or perhaps this was a PCUSA church aping Rome, as modernists like to do.
Some of us(myself included) resort to the Scriptures for confirmation. It is simply the laying on of hands for stregthening and filling of the Holy Spirit(Some scriptures: Luke 11:13, Acts 8:14-17, Acts 19:2-6). And I am no modernist nor under the pope's jurisdiction . It is simply what I believe. Someone may have a different approach and that's fine if they embrace a different view.

One in three believe God created the world. Pretty substantial number for such a secularized country.

I agree, Neil. Many today are referring to what a person says--"The Pope says....", "Pastor says.....", etc.
As for these mega ministries, it is no surprise to see them rise and fall when so much attention is given to one person.

No the Bible is not to blame. God gave the first couple a garden and expected them to tend it. And in Revelation John testifies that God will destroy those who destroy the earth.

Hi Mike,
I am going across the pond soon, but spending some time with friends and family for a while--it was my Christmas gift to them, a surprise.

A sensible quote, CMT.

Article: "Half of Americans who call themselves "Christian" don't believe Satan exists and fully one-third are confident that Jesus sinned while on Earth"

Hmmm...sounds like half of the American "Christians" are very illiterate or simply the disciples of unbelief and eternal damnation. The Bible says Jesus was without sin and plenty of descriptions testify to the reality of satan. Recommendation: Believe the Bible and remain a Christian. If you can't do that, leave the Church and choose a different title for yourself. Lukewarmness is not tolerated at the Judgement. You are either in or out, believing or unbelieving.

Not a surprise. Where is the famed "Bible Belt" afterall? And where does a lot of the liberal and secular philosophy originate?

Guess I am part of the moving 50%. Ah, but Jim, Minnesota has some nice summers. I suppose Nebraska does also. I like variations so maybe a move to Nebraska is on order. I passed through Nebraska once. Not a bad place.

People reserve the right to worship and believe how, where or what they want. Therefore this school has every right to do this based on its faith.
