If he agreed with the scriptures, he probably wouldn't be questioning their validity. It comes across to me that he wants to portray God as loving and accepting of all lifestyles. Therefore, he has to try to get rid of any scripture which depicts lifestyles as sin.
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. II Timothy 3:16‭-‬17
Unprofitable Servant wrote: exactly J4J this more proof your thinking on this passage is invalid, it is not about alcohol Sober here has no reference to not being inebirated if you were right then a simple sip of wine would constitute not being sober
So you want to double down and say not only is it okay for a bishop to drink Mad Dog 20/20, but he can drink Jack Daniel's also?! Why have any standards for pastors anymore? Let them have their multiple marriages and drink their booze!
I think you're right about that. The Holy Spirit has nothing to do with this "church"!
For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12
I think the word of God is revealing the true intent of people's hearts on this subject.
not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not covetous; I Timothy 3:3
It's funny how in all of those things only alcohol gets questioned. Nobody would say it's okay for a pastor to partake in a little violence, or that they can be kind of greedy. However, they will swear that it is okay for a bishop to drink!
I believe Jesus may have drank wine and that He definitely turned water into wine.
What the Bible says is that a bishop is to not be given to wine and deacons are not to be given to much wine. If that excludes some bishops from drinking in the communion then so be it. Alot of places use grape juice or the deacons can perform communion.
I may not know the proper Queen's English. However, you can't be sober minded if you are drinking and if you have a drop of wine you have given yourself to it. Now as a true Calvinists who plays loose and easy with scripture, I'm sure you have no problem pretending otherwise.
A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, of good behavior, hospitable, able to teach; not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not covetous; I Timothy 3:2‭-‬3
What they are doing doesn't jive with scripture! Notice the sober part and not given to wine at all.
