Central Baptist Church had its earliest beginnings in 1963 when under the authority of Bethlehem Baptist Temple of Ludlow, Kentucky; a mission was established in Mt. Vernon. Originally, members of the Bethlehem Baptist Mission assembled in a home. Soon, however, a storefront was secured on West Main Street in the Fairground Hill area. On June 5, 1964, the Bethlehem Baptist Mission was organized into Central Baptist Church with 20 charter members.
In September 1964, the church purchased 1.35 acres on which the church building and parsonage now stand. The members and visitors of the Central Baptist Church enjoy church “the way it used to be,” with Spirit-filled singing and Old Fashioned Bible Preaching. Currently, Central Baptist Church directly supports over 70 missionaries throughout America and across the world.
