“Here’s hoping we can work together to bring the children of creationists’ preachers’ flocks to a more enlightened, boundless way of thinking about the world around us.”
Bill Nye, Undeniable:Evolution and the Science of Creation, pg. 18

On page 13, Mr. Nye, in reference to a tree from Sweden, the Old Tjikko, says “For cryin’ out loud Mr. Ham, what sort of weird world do you live in? If a tree is 9,000 years old, the Earth is not 6,000...”

Dr. Jay Wile responds that Nye “fails to let the unexpected reader know that the tree is not dated using tree rings...it is dated using carbon dating. Well, using the same logic, I could say, ‘There are several dinosaur bones that are 22 to 39 thousand years old. For cryin’ out loud, Mr. Nye, what sort of weird world do you live in? If a dinosaur bone is 39 thousand years old, then the dinosaurs couldn’t have died out 65 million years ago...’”

Wile goes on to say, “Ham rejects carbon dating when it comes to that tree, and Nye thinks that says he is living in some kind of weird world. However, Nye rejects the carbon dating of many dinosaur bones, but somehow, that’s okay.”

These are Bill Nye’s statements from his book, Undeniable:Evolution and the Science of Creation, and page number where quote is found. These are just three examples of numerous problems found in his book.

“Next time you look at an octopus in the eye, respect her or him, because her or his eye is a better design than yours.”                              pg. 167

(He then goes on with the old, recycled arguments of bad eye design.)

“Creationists, in particular, often talk about the Cambrian Explosion as if it happened in an instant. This, for me, is another example of extraordinary ignorance or very limited critical thinking.”                                  pg. 100

“Did you know that there are bristlecone pine trees in the western United States that are significantly older than 6000 years?”                       pg. 13

Response

“...our eyes have special glial cells which sit over the retina, acting like fiber-optic cables to channel light through the tissue directly onto our photoreceptor cells. According to the paper, the human retina is "an optimal structure designed for improving the sharpness of images." Indeed, just this month a headline at Scientific American reports: "The Purpose of Our Eyes' Strange Wiring Is Unveiled." That article confirms the purpose lies in, "increasing and sharpening our color vision.”                                   Physical Review Letters, 2010

“Our uniform experience of cause and effect shows that intelligent design is the only known cause of the origin of large amounts of functionally specified digital information. It follows that the great infusion of such information in the Cambrian explosion points decisively to an intelligent cause.”                Stephen C. Meyer, Ph.D

“The oldest bristlecone pine is tree-ring dated at less than 5,000 years old (www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/methuselah/long.html).”

Dr. Jay Wile, Ph.D

“...OPPOSITIONS OF SCIENCE FALSELY SO CALLED.”            1 TIM. 6:20

“A bit of science distances one from God, but much science nears one to Him... The more I study nature, the more I stand amazed at the work of the Creator.”                                                     Louis Pasteur

“And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female.”            Jesus Christ, Matt. 19:4

Again, I implore the reader to search out the facts concerning Mr. Nye’s book. I’ve already cited Answers in Genesis’ Debate Answers. I also recommend Dr. Jay Wile’s blog at blog.drwile.com. Search his site using “Bill Nye” for a number of articles. Also, see evolutionnews.org, and search “Real Science vs. Bill Nye the ‘Science” guy.’”
Of course, the greatest source for truth about the origins of life and the universe is in a book called the Bible!
