New Hymnbook: Christian Worship
The book will begin with a complete metrical Psalter, and continue with a collection of just over a thousand hymns. The personal pronouns "Thee", "Thou" and "Thine" are being retained, and not edited away as in other modern books. Work on a light revision of the classic 1650 Psalter is nearing completion, the collection of hymns is complete, and the matching of the psalms and hymns to appropriate tunes is well underway.

The editors believe that Christian Worship will make a unique contribution to traditional evangelical worship in the coming years. They are full of praise to God for his help thus far, as well as being full of thankfulness to all of the Lord's people who are supporting the project both in prayer and in giving.

Great stuff! From Bible League Trust

The traditional English measurements for volume are quite rational, for they are powers of two.

Sometimes a "cup" of coffee is actually six ounces, as on the carafe for my Mr. Coffee.

Don't care for Starbucks at all. Tastes bitter to me. Yuppies like it I guess. I prefer Dunkin Donuts coffee.

Hey John, see how much simpler the metric system is?

Can you do a little job for me please? Could you get an eight ounce glass of juice (or water) and tip it into a measuring jug and see how many mililitres (ml.) it comes to? Thanks!

At next-to-leading order in the epsilon expansion we find cs=1.68, which is significantly larger than the result for non-interacting fermions, cs=0.5.
Enjoy your pint Alec.

"Public"
If you were a known Jacobite sympathiser back then, you would probably be shot or hung for your support of Charlie and his father James.
The Scots song "My Bonnie Moorhen" might sound like a "bird song" - but in fact Bonnie Moorhen is code for Bonnie Prince Charles Edward Stuart, the Young Pretender. The words used saved you from the hangmans noose.

I'd be more impressed if the news article told us where we could find contemporary sources that showed this to be true in the 18th century.
I'm sceptical of "secret" codes being found by modern academics.
Why would anyone need a SECRET song to support a very PUBLIC army?

Do you have any other sources PO?

In the meantime, I'll file it with this myth.

BTW - Reminds me of that bizarre school of theological hobbycraft that tells us Revelation was a secret message to Greek churches to tell them what would happen in Jerusalem. Quite why it was a "good and necessary consequence" to find a SECRET code to unlock that which Jesus PUBLICLY proclaimed I've never been able to fathom!

Treat churches that emphasise such hobbycraft and spend years on Revelation bible studies with caution

OK I have bad news for all you Hymn Singers.

The hymn "Oh come all you faithful...." apparently is an "ode" written for Bonnie Prince Charlie of the Jacobite fame.

Quote
"One of the most popular Christmas carols has a secret political code linked to the Jacobite rebellion, a Durham University professor claims.

According to head of music Bennett Zon, O Come All Ye Faithful is actually a birth ode to Bonnie Prince Charlie."

Ode to Bonnie Prince Charlie

Thus does it make manifest that you should be very careful what your singing in your church!!!
So stick to Psalms, the Praise that God Himself ordained.

So Moses wrote down this song that day and taught it to the Israelites.De 31:22

The sounding of the trumpets and cymbals and for the playing of the other instruments for sacred song. 1Ch 16:42

Remember to extol his work, which men have praised in song. Job 36:24

My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song. Ps 28:7

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. Colossians 3:16

Songs have two purposes....for worship of God and to teach. The lyrics of the song has to have substance about God, Jesus, our salvation, God's word ect. The melody needs to be simple enough so that the average member can either play an instrument or sing to it. The melody or music should not reflect what is popular with the world. It is to be "sacred"...that is seperate from what is popular. The music should not highlight the talent or ability of the musician.
