Even while the Lord Jesus Christ still walked upon this earth, He was making preparation for His Church that had not then been birthed. With forethought, He left two ordinances for all believers to partake of, in obedience to His command. They are simple, yet so rich and full of meaning. Unfortunately, many have tried to make them into something other than our blessed Saviour intended. Therefore, we must be careful to teach what the Bible SAYS, and not merely the "tradition of men" (Mark 7:13; Colossians 2:8). If any man or any church says that they have additional revelation from God on these, or any other subjects, that are not already in the word of God, they are lying. These lies about the word of God are not just careless mistakes or little "white lies;" their origin is the father of lies, Satan himself.
According to scripture, these two ordinances were delivered unto Paul by the Lord Jesus Christ Himself (ICorinthians 11:23), and then later by Paul to the Church (ICorinthians 11:2). We believe it is clear that these were the TWO ordinances still accepted by almost everyone today: "Baptism" and "the Lord's Supper" (Matthe28:19; Luke 22:19).
• To presume to add others is to depart from scripture and follow the traditions of men.
• To fail to observe the two is just as unscriptural and negligent. |
