In terms of "bang for your book buying buck," you will not find more fire-power "under one roof" than in The Presbyterian's Armoury! This three volume set icludes works by George Gillespie, Samuel Rutherford, James Guthrie, John Brown of Wamphray, and David Calderwood. Gillespie is most famous for his Aaron's Rod (inclded in this set) which Walker called "the chef d'oeuvre" of Scottish ecclesiastical theology (cited in Cameron, Dictionary, p. 359-360). A number of other items by Gillespie are also included as are Samuel Rutherford's Lex, Rex; John Brown of Wamphray's Apologetical Relation; David Calderwood's Pastor and Prelate; and Causes of the Lord's Wrath Against Scotland. Lex, Rex is "the great political text of the Covenanters" (Johnston citing Innes, Treasury, p. 305). Brown's anti-prelatical work deals with the lawfulness of defensive wars, he hearing of curates, etc. Calderwood upholds Presbyterianism over and against prelacy.
This set is part of SWRB's Rare Hardcover Photocopy Collection. It is also available in a rare cerlox bound photocopy edition at a lower price for US$29.98. Far many similar books at even lower prices on CD see:
