1595 BISHOP BIBLE Bishop Bible containing Old + New Testaments & Apocrypha This version was created by Matthew Parker and other Bishops of the Church of England. There was a desire in England to have a new translation that fit the current church. While the Geneva Bible was a superior translation its study notes made it unacceptable for use by the Church of England. The Bishops Bible is a revision of the Great Bible. It would be the last protestant version before the Authorised version of 1611. It has been called the “rough draft” for the AV. It is also considered the second authorised version. Its use was limited and short lived as it was outclassed by the superior Geneva Bible.
