This novel was written By Dr. Phillips' cousins Bill & Cindy Paul. It covers the history of 3 generations of the Paul Indian family. It tells the history of the Chickasaw trail of tears and the history of the settlement of the Paul family in Paul's Valley Oklahoma. Pauls valley was named after Smith Paul the Scotsman who married ElaTeecha also known as Ellen( this was Jim's great great great grand-mother).Dr. Jim told me that his cousins said that he was the only person still living that had heard these stories first hand from those who saw some of these events take place. Dr. Phillips Great great grandfather Sam Paul was so similar to the character in the Movies True Grit and Rooster Cogburn. The fictional character in those 2 movies closely followed the life of the Lawman Sam Paul who killed 15-17 men while serving as an officer of the law in Indian Territory. Everytime Sam Paul came before Judge Parker in Fort Smith Arkansas, Parker tried to hang Sam for being too rough on the outlaws. This is a great love story and wild west history of the early to late 1800's.460 pages hardback The Price of the book is $23.95 With $3.00 shipping and handling a total of $26.95 donation on the web-site or get a signed copy directly from Bill & Cindy at shadow of and indian Star.com You may also order it at chickasaw.net for phone orders m-f 9am-4pm CST 580-559-0547. This is a fantastic book. It seems you live the joys and the shocking sadness with the characters in the book. These characters are all part of my family. I heard my great grandmother tell these stories many times and some would make fun of her and say that she was just telling tall tales. My father was killed when I was very young and my grandmother and great grand mother raised me. Sam Paul's daughter Hattie Jane Paul was my great grand mother and I was one of the only people who would set for hours and listen to her tell the stories about her father and her cousins brothers and uncles. She used to tell me I looked Just like her brother Willie who is also one of the Characters in the book. Her mother Sarah Jane Paul had run off into the Cherokee nation with Jim Ross while herhusband Sam was in Judge Parker's jail. They expected to see Parker hang my grandfather for killing a horse theif while resisting arrest. But the President of the United States pardoned Sam and he got out of prison and away from the gallows. To make a long story short my great grand mother was hidden from her father and was raised by her Aunt and Uncle as Sam's neice. Many people have loved the book and it will soon be made into a movie.
